Why are YOU fat?

Emotional eating; in childhood / teen years - depression + food = happy for a few minutes
Too much of the wrong foods
Not understanding my height is not 'average' and therefore 'average' calorie intake doesn't apply to me
I stopped exercising for 7 years - totally - BIG Mistake
I stopped 'really' looking at myself
Basically; I stopped caring about me.0 -
Two words....BAD HABITS0

Eating Out!!! My husband & i developed a habit of eating out, especially after our 2 children moved out, it became cheaper & easier to eat out than to cook. Lazy & full of excuses. Spends too much time on computer.0

1. My mother has always counted calories and it used to annoy me... I didn't want to be like that.... and I wasn't... which made me FAT.
2. I love love love take out.
3. I eat WAY too much in one sitting... I have a bottomless pit for a stomach. I used to get bloated, but now I don't bloat easily at all!
4. I wasn't taught the effects proper nutrition had on the body. American schooling is poor!0 -
Getting extremely sick
Laying in bed getting better

i think this is a very good post, because i think until you confront the little lies you tell yourself you will never be successful at weightloss, i had a vast array of lies i used to tell myself and others,
LIE 1- I am not that big i am only a UK size 14 ha (TRUTH: I have been trying to get into the same elasticated size 14 for years and in all honesty i was closer to a big 16)
LIE 2- i don't each that much really (TRUTH: when i could finish off a family size chocolate bar on my own and it not even touch the sides i definatley had a problem
LIE 3- its baby weight from my kids (TRUTH: my kids are 7 and 3, i could have lost the weight i gained from the first but i couldn't be bothered and the last time i was pregnant was 3 years ago, easily enough time to lose weight)
LIE 4- I don't have time to exercise with 2 little kids (TRUTH: if i really wanted to i would have found the time, i find the time now to work out 6 days a week)
LIE 5- I am happy as i am, lifes too short to worry about my weight (TRUTH: no i am not happy with the way i am, thats why i worried when i had to go clothes shopping, thats why i only have a tiny mirror in the whole of my house, and that why in the last 7 years i have probably had only a handful of pictures taken, and as for the last part life will be a hell of a lot shorter if i don't lose the weight)
LIE 6- i only weigh 12 st (TRUTH: this was the last time i weighed myself about 3 years ago, when i started to do something about it the most scariest thing was standing on the scales and realising i actually weighed 14 st)
These lies i have told myself for years and wasn't until i confronted them that i started shedding the weight.
On the plus side Lie 1 is now longer a lie, since joining MFP i have gone down to a size 14 and lie 6 will be gone in the very near future as i am now weighing in at around 12 and a half x
Good luck everyone with your journeys x0 -
Going to reply to this later after I take some time to think about it. Great topic. Eye opener for sure.0

LOVE food and HATE exercise. Plus the medication I'm on.0
-
Definitely emotional eater....first and foremost...helped me cope with very difficult life circumstances
and in my mind I was always a size 8 and just avoided pictures as much as possible
food was my relaxation/reward at the end of a long day
and I did every diet under the sun that did NOT involve counting calories......they never worked because I ate too much....
Now I am counting calories and LOVING it! This time I KNOW I will do it!! Yes and Thank you!! :bigsmile:0 -
Simple. 'Cos I ate too much.0
-
No excuses... I got lazy, complacent, and let myself go...0

Does that mean baking is bad?
I let school get in theway of my health and I stopped caring about myself the way that I used to when I was younger. But now that I'm near the end of my school career I want to care again so I've been losing weight slowly but steadily.0 -
drinking ... poor food choices ... getting content in my relationship and not working out0
-
I always have been. As soon as I grew up I started doing something about it, before then, I don't know how much responsibility I can really take and that motivates me even more. Now I know that any weight I gain IS my fault, and I don't want to ever make myself less healthy.0

We all have excuses and stories and reasons why we gained weight, why we don't exercise, blah blah blah blah.
What's YOURS???
I am fat because :
1 ) I used to say " I'd rather be fat and happy than skinny and a b*tch "
2 ) I had two ankle surgeries and spend 6 months in a cast.
3) I had three kids and really, who has time to eat properly?
4 ) My husband eats like crap.
5 ) I like to bake.
6 ) The stars don't align in my favour.
7 ) Every time I start to eat healthy, something happens.
8 ) My kids ruined my body.
9 ) I think my husband likes fat women.
10 ) I'm lazy and full of excuses.
OMG!!! Are we clones?? These were the exacts excuses I used for years!! No. 10 is the real one:)0 -
i used to be active when i was little, but in middle school all the friends i used to run around with moved. so the pounds slowly started creeping on until one day i saw myself and wondered...how did i let my self get this big? i was only 18 and weighed 250 pounds! and i am not a tall girl either, so i looked extra rollie pollie lol. so i started moving my tushie and im slowly decreasing in size, its awesome0
-
I was fat because as long as I wasn't 'the fattest friend' then I was eating just fine, as long as I didn't order the most unhealthy meal, I just just fine.0

So may reasons:
Trying to do it all without asking for help: STRESS
Fibromyalgia which made exercising painful
Emotional eating
No willpower
Not eating enough of the proper food
Now:
I'm Aquasizing, Snowshoeing
Eating well, and eating MUCH more food.
Down 10.2 lbs in 1 month (only 5 on MFP) and heading for 35 more!0 -
So many excuses. I had twins gained 60lbs, immediately lost 60 from breastfeeding. But eating so many calories while bfing, then when I stopped bfing I didn't stop eating. The lbs started showing. I had never been over 140lbs in my life (except when preggo). I became a stay at home mom and started food blogging and my obsession with great foods grew and grew, as did my appetite and portions. I was baking weekly. Portion control was out the window, next thing I know 4 years after my babies are born I am the exact weight I was when I had them 198lbs. How depressing. I know my food issues stem from my interests (I truly love cooking), and boredom. I tend to overeat in the middle of the day, (3-4) that is my witching hour.
I am slowly changing my view on food, portion control and my huge sweet tooth. I am 4 days into my fitness pal and 4 days of no processed sugars. I know I can do this.0 -
1) I eat too much
2) most of what I eat is bad for me
3) i don't exercise much
4) I used to be happy with the way I was0 -
Love the list, I believe most women on mfp can relate.:flowerforyou:0
-
I ate too much and I didn't exercise...nobody and nothing to blame but me...0
-
Binging/eating too much.0
-
My hobbies aren't active enough eg. art, reading, more art. Also two brothers who eat like horses. My boyfriend lies me too much to worry about how I look(not complaining about that) an I guess I'm too lazy. All my fault really.0
-
I'm fat because I love to eat, I eat loads of the wrong foods, there is no other reason than I am a greedy git!0
-
I am fat because I like to eat and hate to exercise. That's the bottom line.
