Hi my name is Sherry and I haven't ran in 6 weeks.

Oh wait this isn't runners anonomous.

I did however do spinning this morning. See no falling off the wagon necessary because you can't run. I had my first PT appointment today and physical therapist said he didn't see any reason why I couldn't try to run so he cleared me for 1 mile between now and my next appointment which is next Monday. Who knew someone could get excited about 1 mile!

Yeah Sherry!!! Did you kiss your physical therapist????
I am so happy for you!

    Becky

Ummm that would have been kinda awkward with all the other people in the room. They would have wanted a kiss too. :smokin:

As it turns out he is a fellow runner and wants to get me back on track so I can get back out there. He is also doing a 1/2 marathon in November so maybe we will be running some races together.

I just ran (jogged) 3 and walked 1 mile! It hurt a bit but it wasn't nearly as bad as 3 weeks ago. I cant tell you the feeling I got from being physically able to jog without unbareable pain! I am in pt and saw a chiropractor today for the first time on pt recomendation. I find out what was on the x rays tomorrow. I was feeling better today so I decided to try a run. It was an awesome feeling to be out there again!!!!

Christine, that's great news and glad you feel some freedom again.

Becky, don't get me started on enabling. We have a problem, Houston, we have a problem!!! So, if I have a problem with shoes.... we'll ....that sets a very bad trend around here. Exactly how many pair of flip-flops can a 5-year old have? When do we start counseling? Glad you love the belt too, I know lot's of folks that use them.

Sherry, woohoo for you. Great news!

Julie, hold your thoughts until January when my eyes freeze shut on a run, and yes, they do actually freeze shut sometimes. I am so, so thankful for a reprive from the heat. It's 7:00 and 65 degrees and no humidity, our house is actually cold.

Welcome all newcomers to the this thread. It's great... and addictive!

I ran around 11miles last night, but I have to run again tonight. It's just hard to turn down with this great running weather. Gotta run.

Good news, Sherry! That's awesome that your PT is a runner,as well. I'm sure he'll have you up and running for your 1/2 training in no time!

I ran 4.5 tonight with my Team in Training group. We had a nasty storm pass through but just keep running along. Felt like I ran out of gas about mile 3 so one of the trainers just talked to me until we made it to the finish line. I just found out that my iron levels are low again today. Ive been anemic most my life so Im hoping to see an improvement in a week or two once the supplements kick in!

    ran 4.0 last night...
  • It's now that time of year when running in the daylight is courting heatstroke. Yesterday I had to stop midway at a watermelon juice stand. When I got into a cold shower afterwards, I expected to see steam pouring off my overheated skin. Running at night is nice, lots of people out once it cools down, but with my late teaching schedule I don't always have the time. I guess that leaves running in the mornings, argh! It's fun once I get out, but pretty much torture when the alarm goes off!

Does anyone have any magic tricks to make me not hit snooze and get out for an early run?

Best thing is to get running buddies. Nothing gets me out of bed better than knowing people will be waiting on me.

No run for me today - P90X plyometrics instead. Just as well - intense thunderstorm and tornado warnings - not a great day for running out doors.

Tempo run for me today -- 6 miles.
    1 mile warmup
    4 miles at 8:41 pace
    1 mile cool down.

Seriously didn't think I was going to make it -- I was on the treadmill so I could track my time. I turned up the music and started doing my calculations. My accounting brain is happy when I'm figuring times and laps remaining etc...I know I'm a nerd!!! But I'm a very proud nerd!:embarassed:

i finished couch to 5k week 1 (actually yesterday was supposed to be week 2 day 1, but I'm going away for the holiday weekend tonight, and I'm not sure I'll get a chance to run while we're away so I didn't want to start week 2 and then go 3 or 4 days without running)... anyhow, it felt great- it's been pretty hot and humid here the last couple days, and I run in my very hilly area, so it's a big challenge. I weighed in today and lost 1.6 pounds this week- cheers to running!! :drinker: Someday, I'll be running nice long runs, like many of you!

Have a great day, everyone! :flowerforyou:

I went to bootcamp this morning and of course the first thing they want to do is run a mile. Sheesh, I just got cleared yesterday. I only ran a 1/2 mile. The park was not the best place to start running again. There are hills and pavement. I stopped running right before I got to a big hill and started running after I got to the top. I felt that familiar twinge and totally stopped running. After bootcamp I took some ibuprofen and iced the sore spot. As of right now, I am doing ok and no pain. So YAY for a 1/2 mile.

Baby steps -- don't jump back in too quickly and reinjure yourself. You've been waiting too long!!!

Good afternoon... Just got back from 5 mile run for lunch!! It feels soooo much better to run 5 miles for lunch than to eat something that might be unhealthy!!! Plus, it's 5 mountain miles, so 1/2 uphill and the other 1/2 back down.

:glasses: Oh man me too, but that burn going up the side of a mountain feels SOOO good. Then the speed coming back down is nice.

Did a 7-mile tempo run today.

    1 mile warm-up
    5 miles @ 8:16
    1 mile cool down

I seriously was ready to throw in the towel at mile 4 of the tempo run, but I thought WWMFPPD...that stands for What Would My Fitness Pal Peeps Do? I knew that you all would have pushed through...so I did. And I'm glad!

Hope you all are have a good day!

Sherry - good thinking on holding off after feeling that familiar twinge. You'll get there! No rush.

All you speedy tempo people impress me immensely! I've been a 10 minute miler FOREVER. I think I need to find a running buddy that runs faster than me to make me push harder. Tomorrow is my speed workout--I'll be thinking about ya'll while I try to break some new barriers for me!

Rest day for me today. It's funny how I never eat as good on rest days as I do on workout days. Anybody else have that problem?

I'm the total opposite. I think in my head I burned more calories, so I "earned" or something the right to eat something not as healthy. Working on breaking that habit.

I'm so jealous of everyone! I had to finally give in and go to the foot doc to rid myself of an annoying plantar wart and I am starting to wonder if the cure is worse than the disease

Hope to be up and running again by Friday or Saturday but you never know, seeing that I can't even put pressure on it today I guess I shouldn't hold my breath

    Come on miracle! :drinker:

I'm new to jogging/running. Mostly I begin with walking a lap then upping my speed until I'm jogging. The best I've done is an 11 minute mile, which I think is slow. I see so many of you doing 8 minute miles or faster. How do you do it? I love the challenge of running faster miles, but when I actually go out and walk/jog/run, I never get to the run part. It's like my mind just won't let me move my legs faster. To make up for speed, I've added time and usually walk/jog for at least 60 minutes. Is this an okay compensation?

It depends on what your goals are. If you are simply looking to lose weight, long and slow may be a better way to go. If you want to pick up some speed, you need to work on adding the run part to your walk/jog/run work out. If you always run at 11 minute pace, you will always run at 11 minute pace. Try throwing in some 1-2 minute intervals at 10 minute pace, alternating with some jogging. As the 10 minute pace because more comfortable, increase it to 3-4 minutes and shorten the jog in between. You will eventually 'reset' your natural pace and run 10 minute pace without thinking about it. Then you can start over, with 9 minute pace intervals, and so on.

    Hey Everybody!:flowerforyou:
I jogged 3, walked 2 then jogged 1 more mile faster than the first 3. It feels like I'm carrying someone else's legs when I'm running! I'm really sore and although it feels great to run again, it is frustrating to have lost so much speed. :frown: Well, at least I am able to do a little!

    To Runnerdad:

Thanks for the advice. I'm pretty sure for me it's just my mind telling the rest of me I can't do it, and because I'm such a slacker, I give in. My goal is to be able to run a 5K under 30 minutes. I have a long way to go, but I'm going to give you're suggestions a try and see what happens.
