I will try and give you a blanket statement to help you out:
Outside of liposuction, you cannot do anything to cause your body to lose fat from a specific area. You need to burn calories through diet and/or exercise or a combination of both and your body will burn fat where it chooses to.
No garments, plastic wraps, or even specific exercises will allow you to influence the location of fat oxidation.0 -
Well I'm pretty sure it's safe for sandwiches, so why not the body. It will probably keep you fresh until lunch time. But I hear you shouldn't put it in a microwave. So avoid stepping into any human-sized microwaves.... seriously, even if some web page tells you that sitting in a microwave will help you burn belly fat fast.

From my understanding, and I'm no expert mind you, wrapping in plastic or using sauna suits doesn't burn calories, but what it does do is force your body to accelerate it's metabolism to cool itself off.0

I've hear of people doing it to loose inches to pass taping in the military but there is more to it then just the plastic wrap and it's only a temp fix.0

sweat loss is not fat loss. saran wrap and tummy belts only make you sweat. as soon as you drink something you've replenished everything that you lost - and you still have all the fat you had when you started.
if you like wasting money and using more products that don't biodegrade and therefore will be with us forever - then continue to wrap yourself.0 -
Making yourself sweat more does nothing for you except dehydrate you faster. You're not helping yourself by doing this....at all. Sweat does not equal calories burned.

It will work to temporarily drop weight, much like what wrestlers do to make weight. As soon as you start drinking water the "weight" will come back b/c all you are doing is dehydrating yourself.0

My sister used to do this back in high school. She claims it worked for her. I also know a wrestler that would do this right before matches to meet weight requirements. From what I understand it helps loose water excess water weight but it is only temporary. And my sister would do it so often it left her skin kinda wrinkly and I use to think it was hilarious when she would exercise cuz all you would hear was the wrap. But I think its safe. Im not sure how helpful it is though.0

My only credentials here are that I'm a nearly-graduated nursing student. That said, metabolism is an exothermic process--it produces heat. If anything, you'll slow it down by overheating yourself. Now, on the other hand, being cold DOES encourage your metabolism to bump it up in order to maintain your body temperature. Shivering burns calories like you wouldn't believe. Don't go roll naked in the snow because I said that, though! If you're outdoors, you could consider wearing lighter clothing than you normally would. Or, keep it a bit colder in your house.0 -

While I was wrestling in high school, there was a huge campaign against this. It is dangerous to work out wearing something that does not allow your sweat to evaporate. Dehydration is not the underlying issue. The true problem you will run into is overheating your body.
Sweat is your body's way of cooling you down, but only if the sweat is able to evaporate. By not allowing the sweat to evaporate, there is no cooling effect therefore putting you at risk of over heating your body during exertion.
While all of the jokes and pictures are hilarious, the truth of the matter is, that wrapping yourself in plastic wrap to work out can have very harmful effects.
On top of that, if you go to the Livestrong website and look this question up, you will get a few articles written on the subject, reasons not to do it, and collegiate research studies showing why it doesn't work and how it can be harmful. Hopefully this helps.
Bottom line, you want results, they start in the kitchen. Eat right and exercise intelligently.0 -
Yes, you can reduce water weight and/or swelling like they do in spas, but making yourself sweat more isn't going to aid in real weight loss. As a matter of fact, I think you risk dehydration and any bacteria being close to your skin for an extended amount of time may resulting in a rash (maybe that's just me, but I have super sensitive skin). I say, skip the plastic wrap.0

they have waist belts to help you when you're working out. they serve the same purpose. you just reminded me to wear mine! i've heard of wrapping the tummy in saran wrap and applying castor oil to the belly before wrapping to take out the toxins while you sleep.

Hey they make whole jogging suits to work out in! Plastic, rubber etc
My ex used to do it to make weight for wrestling.
Of course, its only water weight you are losing, and creating a potential for dehydration, which will backfire into water retention in a day or so... But hey... whats a temp fix, right?
I watched an episode of 1000 ways to die and some guy died in a plastic fish suit because his body couldn't get the heat out by sweating and getting the air on his body to cool it down....sweating serves a purpose and putting something over you to make you do it more and something that doesn't allow air to contact the body when you're sweating is dangerous because your body can get overheated quite quickly without you even realizing it. I realize you're only putting the plastic wrap on your stomach but I'd stay clear of those plastic suits etc. because if the air isn't able to get to your body you're going to have a heatstroke.0 -
I would only wrap my body in plastic wrap as foreplay.

Wrapping yourself makes you sweat, but you will put the liquid back when you drink water.
I recommend staying as cool as possible so you can work out longer.
That will allow you to burn more fat and build more muscle than artificially stifling your respiration system.0 -
