MAC or PC..... why?

Both. I use my PC for gaming and day to day stuff. I use the Mac for graphic design, video editing, etc. I don't really have a preference over either, each do what they're supposed to do better than the other, so all my needs are met.0

Actually, Apple stole the idea for a GUI (Graphical User Interface) from Xerox who were the first by MANY MANY YEARS.
Don't try to get technical when you have no idea about the details.
So you are awesome.0 -
Actually, Apple stole the idea for a GUI (Graphical User Interface) from Xerox who were the first by MANY MANY YEARS.
And Xerox PARC stole it from Ivan Sutherland and Douglas Engelbart, who stole it from Vannevar Bush who originally proposed the "memex" interactive system for retrieving information way back in 1945.0 -
PC. A big part of it for me is that I've never been able to understand how MACs are organized. I can never find anything on them. I find Windows to be very intuitive. If I ever encounter any problems, 90% of the time I can figure it out on my own without having to call my nerd friends. I have two PCs. My family has had my desktop since '93 or '94, and it still works great. Unfortunately it can't connect to the internet, so these days it's pretty obsolete. I've had my laptop for four years, and it works pretty well.
I used MACs at school all through elementary and middle school. They were always extremely slow, and I could never get them to do what I wanted. I suppose they work for some people, but I am not one of them.0 -
I use both Mac and PC, and I would have to say I like PC better. The interface is better and if it breaks, I know how to fix it. When a mac breaks, I have to crawl over to the Apple people and be like, "Pleaseee helpp meeeee."
Edit: Also, I have a custom built PC, sooo it's pretty much catered to my desires (and price range).0 -
My Toshiba laptop just died on me after only two years. The Dell before that lasted about that long as well. I've always been a PC girl but am I missing out by not going MAC? Any opinions and/or advice appreciated!
This macbook was twice the price of the PC laptop I would have gotten, but I gor it expecting it to last far longer.
Plus, the ergonomics of it are freaking DIVINE.
It took me a bit to switch my brain over to Mac-OS thinking, but the learning curve isn't that steep.0 -
I've used both, but would only ever buy a PC. Macs are media computers. I need a good all-rounder.
Absolutely not true - I work as an IT Project Manager, and use a Mac - there is nothing a PC can do that you can't do an a Mac - it is as much an alrounder as a PC - and the Mac is much cooler, very easy integration with my iPhone, iPad through the iCloud - and yes - it is very nice for editing and playing with my hobby - photography.....
That said - if you have never used a Mac you do need to learn the few "tweaks" that is different from Windows machines - but to me that was all part of the fun .......
Yes - I am a Mac Girl through and through :-)0 -
Mac all the way. I love my Mac - I do a lot of photography and my Mac is just great for editing. Once you get a Mac, you'll never go back!0

I don't mean to add fuel to the fire, I just thought this was funny. I used to love Macs, honestly, but all in all, I don't appreciate the "innovators" comments, as most of the things are generally not innovated by them. That's all.0 -
Heavy PC user since the late 80's. Just couldn't imagine what all the fuss/expense was about re: Mac.
Got my MacBook Pro in Dec. I get it now. Took me a couple of weeks to learn new shortcuts, gestures etc. After that...love it.
I had to use someone's PC the other day and I flat out resented it!0 -
I have only owned PCs but I have used Macs on several occasions over the years, both desktop and laptop. (and for extended amounts of time, not just messing with it for an hour then moving away)
There are some things a Mac cannot run, there are some things a PC cannot run. I think what it comes down to as far as a decision is what do you primarily use your computer for? When you know that answer, then look at what both offer to run the needed/desired programs, use the computer, and how the computer will handle it as far as memory, speed, and all else.0 -
What has Mac "innovated" recently? I understand they were a major player in the beginning of the personal computer, but recently all they've seem to have innovated is the modern day marketing campaign. People rave like tablets and touch-screen phones were invented by Apple, but they have been around for many years. Apple just made the advertising market for people to actually want them.0

I just bought a Macbook Air for this reason. My husband has a mabook that he got in 2006 and it's still going strong. I had been through four PC laptops during that period. FOUR.
To be fair, most if not all laptops regardless of PC or Mac tend to have a shorter life than, say, a desktop. However if you're knowledgeable of what to do to keep it running like new and not overheating or getting damaged then yes you'll get a longer life from your machine. That and depends on the repairs, if any.
Myself I have a PC desktop I bought in 2007 that runs perfectly. I even had a PC that was given to me in 2001, had two inches of water sitting in it during Katrina in 2005, and still ran smoothly until 2007 when the rust on several internal tower parts caused them to cease function.
It's just a person by person thing. If you take care of them, they will last. Likewise, if it was built well, it will last. With PCs, brands are important.0 -
I used to swear by my PC. When it died my son gave me his Mac it's hard to get use to but once you have you won't regret it. My Mac just died and yes just replaced it with another Mac0

I have both. And I use both. The Mac laptop is the newest. I think if you like to tinker...stay with the PC. You really can't tinker with the mac. if somthing doesn't work...I just cross my fingers and hope it fixes itself. On the other hand...it usually does. But it still bugs me that I can't tinker.
Mac's are all around better machines. Because they are built to be top of the line...there are no cheapo macs. And if you compare apples to apples...mac's to really good quality pc's...they're not really more expensive.
But, I think the mac is over-rated. I came to the mac because of the iphone...which *isn't* over-rated. The iphone was super innovative, beautiful, and a joy to use. (I have a top of the line android now...and really miss my iphone.) That aura convinced me to get a macbook. But...the mac is just a good laptop. Its nothing special. I'm not sorry I got it, mind you. I really enjoy it. But I think I'd enjoy it a lot less if I didn't also have a pc laptop for those moments when a pc is calle for (like software compatibility and really good freeware).0 -
And if you compare apples to apples...mac's to really good quality pc's...they're not really more expensive.

Neither. Assuming "PC" is referring only to Windows.
I use Linux.
I am running what could be referred to as a pc. It booted into Windows only one time and that was so I could install Ubuntu Linux. I've never looked back!0 -
What has Mac "innovated" recently? I understand they were a major player in the beginning of the personal computer, but recently all they've seem to have innovated is the modern day marketing campaign. People rave like tablets and touch-screen phones were invented by Apple, but they have been around for many years. Apple just made the advertising market for people to actually want them.
People buy Apple products because they're elegantly designed and engineered, and the technology doesn't get in the way of the tasks they're trying to perform. That's why the iPad has succeeded where so many others have failed.
I also have never heard knowledgeable people claim tablets and touch-screen phones were invented by Apple. What they will say is, Apple succeeds with producing a product that people will actually buy and use. You can believe that it's just advertising, but if that's the case all of Microsoft's aggressive marketing for dogs like the Zune and Windows Vista haven't succeeded in making people buy those lemons. Producing salable products rather than crap isn't marketing, it's good design and engineering.0 -
And if you compare apples to apples...mac's to really good quality pc's...they're not really more expensive.
Without knowing the brand...its impossible to know whether this PC "apple" is really an apple. Toshiba's, for example, are made with all cheap plastic parts. Good luck having those last more than 2 years...and if this "name" is a Dell. Well, they suck. My IT department (which only supports PCs, no Macs at all, so this is an unbiased assessment), has often wondered aloud how Dell can make any money with the business customer warranties. They had to replace major things like motherboards on the Dells in our office. Dell is really not the "apple" to the Mac. Its an unfair comparison. My original point is that folks who say Macs are better are usually comparing the expensive mac to a cheap PC. Its not a fair comparison. When I compared an expensive macbook to an expensive PC laptop...well, which one was "better" turned out to be more subjective. When comparing apples to apples, I maintain that there isn't really much in terms of "quality" difference between the two. It all depends on who you are, and what you want out of a machine.
And I didn't pay 2,000 for my macbook I got a student discount, but it wasn't 900 worth. If it were, there'd be a massive resell market of students reselling them. Don't know where you're getting these numbers from...0 -
i have a toshiba and mine's already 5 years old and working fine! lol i would like to get a mac but i dont wanna spend $1000 dollars on one at the moment! Lol0
-
I manage an Apple reseller, so you know where my loyalties are going to be. After running Windows my whole life up until about 2 years ago, i never realized what I was missing out on. If I quit/was fired tomorrow, I would NEVER go back to a pc.0

go mac you'll never go back.... to pc0

Go Mac. I was a huge "Omg Mac is soooo overrated, get over yourselves!" girl before. I bought an Acer laptop [$900] that lasted 3 months...Then dropped $1300 on a Dell that lasted 6 months...My fiance had bought a Mac because his Dell [which lasted 2+ years] had finally completely died...So I was like well in less than a year I've spent over $2K on laptops, why not try a Mac also...1.5 years later my Mac is still running great! If I could have a PC that would ACTUALLY LAST I would def stick with it. Mac is a little more complicated & takes a while to get used to. Since I have not seen a PC [laptop anyway] last this long, I'll stick with my Mac! It takes a while to get used to & there are still some things I dislike about it, but my Macbook cost $1300 [same price as my Dell] and has lasted 3x longer so far [watch me post this and the damn thing die lol]. Not sure why everyone says they cost more...I ordered mine straight from their website & paid the same amount I did for my Dell...& lets not mention my lovely Acer that lasted 3 months...Eff.0

Au contraire, it is PCs that are junk. Had it not been for Apple to show them how, they wouldn't even have Windows, which is an out-and-out ripoff of the Mac desktop -- an inferior ripoff, I might add. AB:PIP:BA -- that's the kind crap PC users used to have to type in to transfer a file. Go with the user-friendly innovators: Choose a Mac.
Don't try to get technical when you have no idea about the details.
Apple bought the GUI from Xerox because Xerox really had no idea what they had created. The fact that Xerox under-charged for it does not equate to Apple "stealing" it.0 -
Stay away from E machines, (walmart brand) and Dell, they crap out fast, accord to my husband, whom is a computer tech. We've never had any MAC's in our house, so don't know much about them. My husband usually buys parts and builds our desk top computers, as far as laptops go, both laptops, we've bought last about a year each, so can't help ya there either0

This is a perfect trolling thread.
I prefer a Windows machine because you can do whatever you want, not what Apple decides you want to do. There are many differences mostly due to the fact that anyone can build a Windows PC, but only Apple makes their PCs (PC just means personal computer, so you know).
As only Apple makes their PCs they're the only ones who can add onto it, as opposed to being able to do whatever kind of maintennance/upgrades you would like on your system. I know there are some things you can do, but you don't have the versatility of a PC.
Long story short, it really depends on what you want to use your PC for and the level of customization you would like to have.
In regard to comments about there being more viruses on Windows and such, of course there are. More people use it. A Mac will automatically boost your hipster cred, though, if that's important
Yes, this is why my heart is always with PCs.
To the OP, I had my Toshiba for 6 years and just recently purchased a new one just for the new features and aesthetics.0 -

die hard Apple product fan, I've got everthing from iPods to iPads, Macbooks to Apple TVs and an iPhone . For ease of use there is nothing about there in the Windows land that can compare.
Important to note that I've been a Windows PC/Server admin for 10+ yrs so it's not that I hate the other side but for my home use Apple products win out every time.
It all comes down to this, try each and figure out what you enjoy using the most. I have my Windows based PC for a handful of games a play but for day to day use my MacBook is my go-to machine.0 -
People who want Macs because "they get less viruses" need to get their porn from more reputable websites.
Great laugh for the day... thank you!!!0 -
Always MAC--PCs are wonderful tools--MACS and all the offered peripherals (phone, Pad, etc) become one and part of ur life and work.0

Once you go MAC you NEVER go back!!!!!!
I wouldn't take a PC if it was FREE0
