I'm from Virginia Beach. Literally. I was born here. We are 80% military.
This conversation really happened:
"Where are you from?"
Me: Virginia Beach
"Oh that's in South Carolina, isn't it?"
Riiiiiiiiiiight.
Biggest misconception is that "Virginians" don't know how to drive. But 80% of the drivers on the road aren't FROM VIRGINIA. So, yeah...not so much.0 -
I also don't particularly care for the American stereotypes that are portrayed in other countries.... It doesn't offend me (I don't really get offended by such silliness)... it just kinda saddens me that because people believe stereotypes.... I get lumped in as an unintelligent, arrogant, obese imperialist .0

I'm originally from Montana. People seem to assume that Montana is just one big ranch and everyone in Montana is a cowboy. They also seem to think that Montana is Wyoming.
I now live in Utah. I think most people's idea of what Utah is like is probably true.0 -
i'm from Boston however
1. I pronounce my R's
2. some of us do know how to drive
3. I'll take a Heineken over a Sam Adams
4. We're not that friendly0 -
I'm from Asheville North Carolina.. Most people think I'm a bible toteing, redneck...etc, but Actually Asheville is the land of Liberal Democratic hippies....0

It's Marylanders. And I've come to this conclusion because they insist that of all their bordering states (PA, VA, WV) THEY are the only ones that know how to drive... when it reality... they are the problem. "OMG there are snow flurries I'm going SLAM on my breaks unexpectedly on I-70 every ten seconds because I'm scared and cause an accident that halts traffic coming out of DC and Baltimore for hours"0 -
I have lived my whole life in the Detroit area, and it is no where near as bad as people think.0

haha, I'm from UTAH... Peeps think everyone has a huge family here (but in my family there's only me and my brother...)
I lived in Utah....they do!!! Your family is a rarity!
I am a full blooded Hoosier....means I'm from Indiana. People think all we know how to do is husk corn and play basketball.
I am tall for a girl and all my life, "do you play basketball?"
I have never played basketball, I do not even watch it on TV.....yeah, I can husk corn like nobodies business though!! :drinker:0 -

True that.0 -
Ya know with all these states that are just a bunch of hicks its a wonder we've evolved at all past hunting and gathering.
Back to my Okie roots......growing up I had to work my grandpa's rather large garden. And let me tell ya, that is hard work! If I never pick another green bean or cut okra from a stalk it will be too soon. I have a serious appreciation for those who do it. Hunting can be fun, but then again if it comes to getting up at 3:00 AM to sit in the freezing cold to hunt a deer or sleeping in and eating steak instead I am all about eating steak. I think the only reason society moved away from that way of life was because it sucked!0 -
People presume I live in an igloo and am essentially American.
Neither is true.
Canadians are not Americans.
Despite living in the 'extreme north', I have never even seen an igloo.0 -

Amen to that0 -
Im from lancaster pa! everyone thinks were all super religious o and we dont have electric! well, obviously some of us do! no, im not amish, but i have to admit.. my grandmother was amish0

Well, technically you live in North America, so you are American.0 -

And I was beginning to think no one was actually FROM Indiana0 -

PSSSSHHHT. Technicalities... Why on earth did you have to be the United States of America! Way to make the entire continent yours anyway. :P0 -
People seem to think all of california is fun, but where I live it's probably one of the most boring places ever haha.
And no
I do not smoke weed xD0 -
Well being from Canada, everyone thinks we're super polite and that we say "eh" a lot. The sad thing is that it's kind of true. I've literally caught myself apologizing to inanimate objects that I've walked into on multiple occasions.0
-
I live in Dogpatch, Arkansas. That is all.0
-
The 'guido' type is def a minority here and yet the stereotype persists.... I hate when I go traveling and people find out I'm from NJ. That show has given the whole state a bad rep
This!! Awful awful awful! I can't even watch it. I also lived in Maine for years -- a lot people have no idea where Maine is even located.0 -
I am from California and therefore I must be, blond-tan- have a perfect body. I have one out of three. HA!0
-
Try being from Fargo...do you have any idea how many wood chipper jokes I hear? And EVERYONE thinks i have the accent. *sighs*
THIS!
You must be from Minnesota too, huh?
oh yeah, sure ya betcha. Dontcha know. born in Minnesooohta...my 'accent' gets made fun of.
Otherwise, raised in South Dakota - I've often gotten, I don't know anybody else from there, do yall have indoor plumbing? oh boy0 -
Lived in Louisiana almost all my life (I was born in Colorado but both parents are from Louisiana) and I hear a lot of stuff about New Orleans, mostly, where people think it's like a smaller version of the Vegas Strip where you can gamble and see naked chicks walking around and get smashed. Mardi Gras is the worst, we have tourists who come in thinking the whole thing is to show boobs for plastic beads and that's how we do it but they end up being just about the only ones doing it (minus your atypical drunk fool) and just reinforce it even though they're the ones doing it! And look, I'll admit parts of New Orleans are not as clean as they could and should be and a lot of the city residents don't like it, but New Orleans is a clean city and a lot of Louisianaians are family-oriented people. Often times at Mardi Gras you'll see more kids than adults, because it's a family thing.0

If that's true then I must be Canadian, I apologize even when I wasn't involved or it wasn't my fault. Though I'll admit I have heard that most people from Canada are nicer than, say, people from the States. I went to Canada before they made it mandatory to have a passport at the border and I can't say I saw the attitude difference, though.0 -
I'm in Wisconsin. Not everyone here is fat and stupid. It's not just dairy farms, either.
The part about drinking a lot of beer is totally true though...0 -
Kentucky here! We're all toothless hillbillies living up a holler in our trailers and married to our cousins! NOT!!!!0
-
I'm not sure if Maryland has any stereotypes or misconceptions.
I'm from Virginia...I can think of a couple about Marylanders0 -
I'm from a tiny town in Wisconsin (~800 people), and everyone is convinced that we're just a bunch of beer-guzzling rednecks.
When people meet me and see how well-read and informed I am, they claim that I'm the "exception" to the rule lol0 -

And we're not all Packer Fans! (Me)
Yeah, the drinking is pretty ridiculous. Our pre-game would be someone else's entire night out!0
