Eggs - Why do people not eat the yolk?

For yolk lovers, I have a creme brulee recipe that uses 12 yolks and no whites.
Long live yolks!

It's 70 calories for an egg people -- not 200. Eggs are super nutritious AND they fill you up and keep you full. What else can you ask for? I eat 2 to 3 every single day.
^^ this I promise high cholesterol is not from eating eggs....the burgers and fast food french frys and processed foods is what makes your cholesterol high not an egg lol0 -
So, I've incorporated boiled eggs in my breakfast for quite some time now, but notice that a lot of people throw away the yolk and only eat the egg white. Cholestorol issues perhaps? Whats are the pros vs cons of eating the yolk?
Are you wanting to adjust your calorie intake? Your cholesterol intake? Your fat intake? There are lots of ways to address all of those without changing your egg consumption. Please don't change your diet based on what you notice a lot of other people doing. That is the foundation of the thinking behind fad diets.0 -
Fresh (very fresh) beauty's from our hens, I am an egg white person usually but since I have gotten my chickens I have to at least have one of their yolks! So I usually do 1 whole egg and 2 whites, not so much because of cholest. for me but the calories thing.
NOTHING like fresh fresh eggs! And they are so fun to have for the family too! My kids snack of choice is a sunny side up egg! They LOVE them! It is ok eat the yolk there are far worse things we have all eaten, the darker the yolk the better the taste!
Would a face like this lie to you????

I want this recipe as well... pleeeeease!!0 -
I just do not like the yolks in boiled eggs. So I throw them away for that reason, but I will eat them in egg salad or deviled eggs...0

I LOVE WHOLE EGGS! They are my main protein source, and yolks have vitamin E and the trace mineral choline which is a brain-booster. I'm still nursing my 1 year old and what choline he's not getting from the eggs he eats, I'm hoping he gets from me.0

I personlly don't care for the taste of the yolk in hard boiled eggs, nor the texture, blah!0

It was recommended to me to actually eat 1-2 whole eggs every day by a nutritionist while dealing with my weight issues. I personally feel that natural foods are not to be feared or parted out because of such things as fat and cholesterol, but embraced in their entirety for their high nutritional value. Throw out the fabricated, processed foods if you're worried about calories or cholesterol...those are the ones that usual have very little nutritional value to balance out the fat/calories/etc. and also bring along their nasty little friends with names you can't even pronounce.0

interestingly I have developed a total lack of desire to eat eggs since losing weight. I cant stand the smell of them or the taste. I have tried making omlettes or scrambled eggs etc but just cant eat them.. Now its ok if I have them in say cookies or cake where you dont get the taste or smell.
At work some of the girls cook the egg whites in the microwave in these special bowls with spray butter and then they plop them on their plate and eat them The smell does me in and then if I see them I just want to puke.
Not sure what happened as I always liked eggs0 -
Because of the myth that eggs cause high chelestoral.
One of my friends lives on a property and keeps chooks so I get my eggs from her. They're delicious! Store bought are ok but hand raised are better. If I ever get my own place I'll keep chooks.0 -
Ok...after all this egg talk, I will be having eggs for dinner, and yes, I will eat the yolk. I buy farm fresh free range eggs from a friend who is using the $ she makes for her kids' college funds. I get great eggs and one day, Hallie and Maddie will get a great education. Seems like a win-win to me.0

I eat a LOT of eggs. Roughly 14 a week (sometimes more) and I eat the whole egg. My doctor was worried and told me to cut back on yolks then when my test results came in she emailed me at home that night telling me to not worry about the eggs, eat as MANY as I like, my results were fantastic and for me to keep doing what I'm doing.
The incredible, edible egg.0 -
Oh, and I buy "cage-free" happy eggs. Pay more but feel better about it.0

I love eggs....I have high cholesterol as well...am desperately trying to get it down with diet and exercise...when you have family history it's just so hard. I am very frustrated because in 3 months there was no change...it even went up a little...don't know what else to do and really didn't wanna go on medication before I"m even 30!0

There is some research showing low-carb diets are better at improving cholesterol than low-fat diets. Although I would highly recommend talking to your doctor about it if you are interested to make sure you are on the same page.

its healthy fats and good cholesterol though, especially for active males its important to eat both the whites and the yolks, a good balance is 3 eggs whole and 3 whites only, I dont know about eating that for dinner however in the morning would be a great time, especially mixed with plain oatmeal for the good complex carbs which would keep the blood glucose levels stable0

I have high cholesterol (well at least I did a year or so ago before I started eating better)... my doctor gave me a list of foods I couldn't eat anymore that included eggs and coconuts... I seem to have misplaced it
But egg yolks are too yummy. If I am home alone with no one to make dinner for my dinner is two poached eggs with multigrain toast cut up into little "fingers" for dipping and a nice big salad. Om nom nom. I'd like to get blood work re-done when I'm closer to my goal to see if weight loss alone helps.0 -

Calories
YES!! Because each egg has over 300 calories!!
How about no?0 -

Mother Nature cries when you throw out the yolk
Agreed! That's the best, most nutritious part...and what a way to waste something perfectly good.0 -

Find a new doctor, eat things like eggs and coconuts and eliminate some processed foods and I'd be willing to bet your cholesterol goes down.0 -
Because people are afraid of fat and calories, or they don't like the yoke. I don't like the yoke but I tend to eat it anyway (waist of food with lots of nutrients).0
-
I eat the whole yolk of my cadberry eggs, they are delish! .....Oh wait...wrong eggs0

Just because it contains cholesterol doesn't mean it isn't extremely beneficial. Unless you really hate egg yolks, they are absolutely worth eating. Eggs are one of the most nutritious foods you can eat.
Agree! I love the yolk!0
