What do you do for a living?

Some people have it easy....they are on their feet ALL day long and burn SO many calories. However, there are plenty of you who have an occupation that keeps you movin' all day, but you fill your tummies up with too many calories, so you never get the rewards of your physically active job.
I applaud those of you who have taken the time to use the food diary on MFP to log your calories. It's amazing to see how many calories you consume in one day and how many you burn, isn't it?!
So my question to all of you, is "What do you do for a living?"
I have physical limitations due to a disability. I WISH I could run around like I used to (I was a successful Real Estate Agent), but I can't . I am limited to minimal impact exercises and activity these days. What is your job and how do you stay active? If you have a desk job, do you find time to make it to the gym, or do you do mini-workouts while at work? If you are a stay at home Mom, how do you fit in cardio or strength training with kids that take up most of your time?
I'm not here to judge, only to find answers. What do you do for a living and what is your best way to work out?
xoxo,
Kelly

I have foot issues so I can't get up and at them right now, but I'm looking forward to getting back to the gym as soon as my feet allow. But, I work in a pharmacy lab so there's some getting up and running around, but I spend most of my day sitting.0

I'm a full time college student and I do a lot of walking. My dorm to class/library is at least an hour a day of brisk walking (if I'm late it's VERY brisk walking), but other than that, I don't get much everyday/lifestyle physical activity so I go to the gym most days. I had a spinal fusion to correct scoliosis so I can't do much high impact stuff like running so I mainly use the elliptical and go to Les Mills group classes.0

I am a private chef. I am on my feet all day but around food all day!! Luckily the people I work for are health conscious and I do Spa style cuisine.

hi! I am a stay at home mom to two boys under 3. Naptime is my workout time. I fit in my strength training then and I try to get in at least a little bit of cardio if at all possible. {Jumping jacks, workout video, etc} Otherwise, we walk or jog to the park, store, etc at least 3 times a week. Its not a lot but if i have to, i just fit in some squats & calf raises while i brush my teeth. Everything counts.0

ICU RN, some nights are go go go, some are sit sit sit. On my off days I am a walker. I get around 20-30 miles a week in not counting my walking at work. Hoping to add more soon.0

I work in marketing and business research, so a desk job. I'm also student and mother. I run 4 days a week, in the evenings. I walk over my breaks at work. The walking is just to keep my head on straight.
The only way to get things done is to prioritize them. My running comes first. I don't work late on days I need to run. I don't work weekends unless I've finished my run. I don't clean my house until my running is done. It comes first. And you know what? All the other pieces fall into place when my running comes first.
I'm a better employee.
I'm a better mom.
I'm a better student.
(I'm a better runner).0 -

I work for an airline. I fly a lot, not as a flight attendant but I manage our charter operations, which includes flying MLB, NFL, NBA. NCAA and NHL, We also do MANY military charters around the world. I either am in our operations center, which is like the Mission Control they have at NASA. Or, I am flying along with a sports team or the Military Troops. A lot of walking involved. so I say active. But I work all different hours, sometimes we arrive at a city with a baseball team at 200am.0

I am un Underground geology technician - So i work in a sauna like environment - its rather physical - but i also work with a foodie - its not always naughty foods but still.. Not to mention my roster means i am home every 2nd week.... I use that week to lay around, eat yummy (tim tams) and in turn gain weight!
I am injured at the moment - which means light duties at work - so alot of sitting around - hence why i am trying to monitor everything i eat0 -
Well I didn't get a job till I started losing weight, at 160lbs I decided to get a job, I felt confident in myself enough to work in the public. I've been a stay at home mom for 8 going on 9 years. I'm still a stay at home mom with a very small part time job. I work as a server at a small restaurant, 5 day's a week for 3-4 hours a day. I love my job, I work because I want to, not because I have to. So it's not really a "Living" it's a choice, my husband is the bread winner, I enjoy having a little extra spending money and enjoy getting out of the house making new friends, meeting new people. I'm a people person, and I love to talk so my job is perfect for me .0

I'm a dog groomer so I'm definitely on my feet all day. The big dogs like Goldens or St. Bernards definitely give me a workout when I groom them. :happy:0

I work in education- was a 2nd grade teacher, but had a curriculum specialist quit so I moved into a position that compensated for that, allowing me to spend a little time in the classroom but more of my time in offices and meetings as I try to move into administration. My boss works with my gym schedule- I like to be there by 430, so I'll often go back to my office when I'm done at the gym, and he has offered to let me occasionally go to the gym earlier in the day and just stay later at work if we have stuff going on. My office is in a separate building than most of the classrooms in my department, so I end up walking back and forth fairly often, but I would say my job isn't as active as it was in the classroom, where I was constantly walking around monitoring my students, squatting or kneeling at someone's side or desk, etc.0

I am a Mom, Wife, Real Estate Agent and I work for the Sheriff's Office full time. I love to stay active with my kids whether we ride bikes, jog, play kickball, baseball, basketball, volleyball, we do it all. It is our "family time", that is what the kids will say. I love it!!!0

Desk job. Grant writer for the Arts. But I walk to work and to the store and make sure not to drive to anything with in an hour walk of me. I play tennis and enjoy hot yoga!
I recently broke my foot so planning tennis is out and walking with a boot is double the calorie burn! But it did not help that I was working from home and sitting all day for about a month because of my foot (it was really bad) Oh high heels. I gained almost 10 lbs!
Back to being active and able to cook for myself.0 -
I'm in retail ...sort of. I work in the warehouse of a major retail giant stocking primarily the refrigerated department but I also work doing inventory. I'm up and down ladders, dragging 7" skids of merchandise around by hand with lift trucks, lifting, carrying, moving stuff all night long.. oh yes did I forget to mention I work permanent midnights!! I've been doing this for almost 20 years so I think my body has just become accustomed to it. My biggest problem is I have no energy to do anything extra when I'm not working. Too little sleep, so little time.0

I'm a treeplanter! It is said that treeplanters burn around 5000 calories per day so I've never watched what I ate because I'm always super hungry and there's an all you can eat buffet for us at camp 3 meals a day!!
You lose weight regardless, everyone does, but I still never got to the weight I wanted to be at. I also had a tendency of putting it all back on at after the season is over (oh yeah, it's a 3-4 month job). This is my first year treeplanting with MFP and it is going swimmingly! In fact, I know it will change my shape forever and with MFP and a commitment to stepping on the scale every now and then I know I can keep it off this time.0 -
I'm a makeup artist! Not much physical activity. Mostly sitting... so I bust my butt in the gym!!0

I am a dental assistant, so I am sitting down pretty much 90% of my work day. My only exercise is walking, I walk 20 mins to and from the train station to get home, plus all my other treks throughout the day, like when I go to get lunch, and walking to and from the station to get to work.0

teacher. running up and down stairs all day. then i go home and work out. pretty wiped out by the end of the day to say the least.0

I'm a physical therapist. Always on my feet, moving around, demonstrating exercises, lifting/transferring/walking patients, doing exercises on them, etc. Before, my job is one of my main excuse for not exercising. I will tell myself, that I'm so tired from work, that I burn cal at work and its a form of exercise and that I need a good rest and good meal when I get home coz I worked too hard. But now, not anymore. Today, I was so tired from work, no energy for exercise but I pushed myself. I burned 788 cal today doing Insanity, treadmill and weights. I workout 6x/week now and never a day that I skip any workout.0

I write the monthly newsletter for my dad's company from my home computer & then email it to his technical assistant at the main branch who then sends it out to the 4 other branches of his company.
In other words, I sit on my butt most of the time. My other job is a housewife, so I also get to spend my days cleaning this house.
I was almost killed in a car accident in '89 & am not able to work outside the house due to the head injury that the accident caused. Our kids are grown & my husband has another 6 years until he retires, so I don't see my life getting any more thrilling until the day he retires.0 -
Currently I design websites. Formerly, before numerous joint problems, I was a tennis pro. When you go from being extremely active to sedentary without changing your eating habits the pounds pile on.0

I'm a receptionist / admin assistant.
Start my day at 8 covering reception, then move into my office about 11 to do some other work, but I'm normally back and forth from reception and into the lab giving out work - then from 2.30 til 4.30 I'm back on reception - so there is some walking round, especially if we have people off sick, then I spend more time running back and forth from reception.
But I walk to and from work, and my tea breaks I sit up on the roof, so that involves going up 3 flights of stairs every time, then get in and do 30DS and another DVD (Target toning) when I get in.
And then after that sometimes, when I do get in I get to do housework as well0 -
I am a personal assistant to an elderly woman. I am on my feet most of the time at work. My hours vary but I don't work more than 4-5 a day. I have lots of free time to workout. I love running.0
