Transportation broker/ account manager. It's the first desk job I've ever had - I've always had really active, physically demanding jobs - and I HATE SITTING ALL DAY.
get up at 4:20a, to work by 6:30, leave work around 4:30 (on a good day) home by 5:15-5:20ish. Hit the gym, get in heavy sessions and cardio. Home, shower, cook & eat, dishes, *try* to relax before passing out around 10/11pm.
Speaking of which, is it nap time yet?!0 -
I hope you are doing well. My husband just found out about a mth and a half ago he is in remission.About another 40lbs on me but at least he is healthy now.0

Im the Office Administrator for a large Neonatology Clinic. I love all the precious babies but do sit for hours and hours a day.
Our campus is large though, and I try to walk around whenever I have the opportunity. Also have to park a long distance just to get into work. So luckily I get a short walk in several times per day.0 -
Oh, I forgot to mention, please don't tell my family I'm a truck driver, they think I'm a piano player in a cat house.0

I'm a nuclear security officer. I spend some days sitting around and other days on my feet for the majority of the day. On occasion, I literally run for the required drills (both as a good guy and as a simulated bad guy). I walk around as much as I can while at work, but still try to exercise outside of work.
I also play drums in a local band- it's the best cardio workout I've ever gotten! We play for 3-4 hours on a given weekend night, as well as the hours of loading equipment in and out. it's a great workout!0 -

haha I like this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I work with a bunch of truck drivers so in some instances, I think your little saying has more truth to it than people realize :-)0 -
I work in marketing and business research, so a desk job. I'm also student and mother. I run 4 days a week, in the evenings. I walk over my breaks at work. The walking is just to keep my head on straight.
The only way to get things done is to prioritize them. My running comes first. I don't work late on days I need to run. I don't work weekends unless I've finished my run. I don't clean my house until my running is done. It comes first. And you know what? All the other pieces fall into place when my running comes first.
I'm a better employee.
I'm a better mom.
I'm a better student.
(I'm a better runner).
I completely agree! I am a banker - so it's a Mon - Fri 9-5 desk job. And then I have two little ones at home. My biggest challenge has been coming to peace with the fact that me getting my "me time" to work out is a non-negotiable. Dirty dishes will sit in the sink, the laundry will sit a while longer. I work out 5 days a week. I would love to get a morning workout - but my hubby leaves for work @ 3:30 a.m. - and if I do a workout video at home...... the wee ones wake up and think it's their wake up time already. So I go everyday after work - and get home close to 7:00 p.m. The biggest KEY to my success is preparation - I don't feel guilty about my workouts and getting home late, if I already have the next day's dinner planned out/started. Otherwise I come home to a family who has eaten yet, kids that still need baths and it'sa crummy feeling. If I know they are taken care of - I enjoy my workout time. I also noticed I am pretty darn crabby if I go to long without workout out. It's cheap therapy.
This, definitely. I'm a lawyer so if I'm not sitting at my desk, I'm sitting in my car or sitting in court. I workout in the morning, usually getting to the gym around 4:45 during the week and 6:00 AM on Saturday with the goal to get back before anyone wakes up. I completely agree that preparation is the key to success...and a supportive hubby who is helping to make all this run smoothly.0 -

I am retired but owned m;y own company, worked as an asset manager, stay at home mom, flight attendant and artist. Now I am the daytime caregiver for 5 yr old grandson and for my retired husband. I am a Receptionist for a Oil Company and I also do work in our Accounting department as well. Sadly I sit 90% of the time at my job.0
-
i'm an admin assistant, I would say i'm 75% sitting and 24% dashing out of my office for whatever urgent need there is. I compensate by using my bicycle to go to and come back from work (in the am, it wakes me up, in the pm, it relaxes me between work and home). Once i'm home, I change clothes and do my P90x session with bf.0

I work at a daycare so I am on my feet all day! And right now, I am training for my first triathlon, so that's how I get my workouts in - swimming, biking, running. Either before or after work, whenever I can fit it in really. I also lift weights three times a week.0

I'm a Realtor and now that it's dead I am my husbands helper as a plumbing contractor. Not glamorous but it keeps me busy and always moving. I then come home to be a cook, teacher, maid etc.0

I am in the IT / User support area of a decently sized credit union. I do a lot of sitting at my desk but I recently bought a stability disc to sit on so at least I am burning more calories and improving my posture while sitting all day. I also try to make it a point to get up and moving more during the day but when there are phones to be answered and computers to be kicked back into line I can't wander away from them for long.
As for working out I have been maintaining my Mon-Wed-Fri workouts for my C25K program even though that has meant being in the gym at some crazy times at night thanks to a shifting schedule. I am now trying to work in some other gym times and I am looking at a dancing class that a friend of mine teaches that should be a good workout.
The important part is to find a balance where you are pushing yourself hard but not so hard that you are going to hurt yourself and to just keep going. Some of my best workouts happen when I really didn't feel like going to the gym in the first place.0 -
I am a sales administrative assistant. I have 9 outside sales people and 5 inside sales people. I have worn a pedomometer and tracked my steps at work I get to 6,000 some days. It just depends on the day.
i also have two children 16 and 12 so they help me stay active.
I work out anywhere from 30-70 minutes a day. Just depends on what we have going on at night. I have tried to work out in the morning and that does not work for me.
Have a great day everyone.0 -
I am customer service, for a call center.
I try to go to the gym when I can.0 -

#1 sales rep superstar by day..........Soccer pro by night
I set my own hours and can workout whenever I want....makes life easy0 -
I'm a Corrections Officer. Depending on where I'm put, depends on my mobility for the day. The Control Room, is a sit down job. Working a zone is mostly up and going, depending on the zone and what shift. I gained alot of weight at this job, though. When I worked as an over stocker at Wal-Mart, I lost a good bit of weight. I didn't do grocery either, but apparel, which isn't nearly as physically demanding as grocery.0

I work in a Nuclear Power Plant. I have a desk job/plant job so I do get some physical activity. We have a gym at work that I use when I can. I also belong to a gym near my home that I use. Sometimes I just do mini-workouts while at work at my desk.0

Customer Service/Software Development (minimal)/Tech Support so I sit most of my day, other than walking around the office to use the bathroom, chit chat or pick up stuff at the printer. Usually start between 5:45 - 6:45 everyday, leave at 3:45 regardless. I work for a company that provides a procedure maintenance package to the majority of nuclear plants in the U.S. On June 11, I will be here 22 years. I just was diagnosed yesterday with bursitis in my hip so my weight loss has slowed - I thought it was a fibro flare-up. Also have damaged ankles that cause problems sometimes, but doing my best to do a range of exercises: started with yoga and brisk walking around the mall in january, have moved outside since the weather is nice and now I try to jog/walk at least one day a week; doing 30 minute zumba classes 3 days a week plus Curves circuit with some Jillian Michaels 30 DS and No More Trouble Zones. One of my faves at the beginning of this journey was a Bob harper DVD - something like pure burn, super strength? I'm the mother of a 13 year old (in 9 days) and stepmom to a 15 year old - both girls. Husband works in a hospital so crazy shifts for him=bad eating times for us at home. If I could get him to loose his love for all things fried and eat what I eat, maybe I wouldn't spend so much time in the kitchen making different foods & could add even more exercise!!!0

I'm a software engineer, so I'm sitting in front of a computer all day, without much opportunity for physical activity.
5 days a week I hit the gym early in the morning before work to get my exercise in. Since it is the first thing I do in the day, nothing can interrupt it, so I almost never miss a gym day. It is also indoors, so the weather is irrelevant. I also try to run during lunch 2 times a week at work, and I try to get in a run on the weekend as well. The running is dependent on the weather, so it's a bit more iffy, but I'm still pretty consistent.0 -
