First Negative Comment

So I have facebook linked to MFP, like most people would, I imagine. Everytime I log my exercises it shows up on facebook. So today, I logged my exercises and it posted to facebook, but I alos made a comment about a dislike towards Bear Crawls, and for the first time I actually had someone tell me to stop posting all the exercise posts and what not. Then another one said that all I talk about is working out, rewind back about 3 months and all you would read would be, "hangover, drunk, passed out, beer, drunk...."
They say they are joking, but as a person that jokes i know there is always a bit of truth to every joke. It's not demotivating, but interesting because I just started to think to myself that I have not had to deal with any negativity/hate towards my workouts. It's a first and I imagine I'll deal with more. I wonder if it's a shock for them to see me devoting more time to being healthy then the partying. I'm telling myself it's a little envy and sadness. They envy the all the effort I'm putting forth and they are sad that they don't have me around at parties as much and miss me  That's how I deal with this bit of negativity.

My friends think I'm obsessed although they haven't said it in so many ways. Anyway, I love your positive attitude...of course they miss you!0

my mom said something similar....she said all i ever seem to talk about is working out and dieting. I can't help it, i'm extremely involved in the aspect of fitness and health. Why would I not talk about something I'm so in to, right?0

Haters gunner hate mate!! I put it down to jealousy, they wish they had the drive and dedication to do what you're doing.0
-
Did you kindly explain to them how to unfriend them selves and the proper way to got #$%^ them selves? Being the gentleman that I am i know that would be my first response
All that aside. Dont let peoples negative action effect your success. I know for me telling people I am trying to lose weight and that i am succeeding helps me maintain going forward.0 -
I don't post anything about fitness on Facebook or twitter. People outside MFP do not understand and it's ok0
-
I don't have my facebook linked to MFP. But if I do something I'm proud of (Like 70kg deadlifts! Whooot), I do post it, I think it makes it feel less like 'spam' on facebook.0

Ditto. The only thing I push to FB is my weekly check in. For the most part I don't think my FB friends would understand all the exercise stuff.0 -
No I didn't get to that comment yet. i'll let the first one slide. the next will be responded that way
with regards to facebook/twitter, that's what those sites are for, updating people on your thoughts/actions and interests. right now, those are the things that i'm in to. They are going to learn to love these new things....or they are going to be force fed them like lab rats, in which I will then start running studies on them. force feed the updates and test their vitals and levels of hate.0 -
My dad told me I was too skinny yesterday. (I’m a runner.) I told him that it really wasn’t a compliment & how would he like it if I said he was too chubby. If it wasn't my dad I would have said to pi$$ off! I eat supper healthy & don’t starve myself btw…0

I agree....they don't understand. I think the people are just going to look at things to complain about. when you are negative, they will complain to others about your negativity. when you are in a positive place they will complain to you. when you are drunk they will try to join you0

I don't post my MFP stuff on Facebook.. I get a lot more support of here than I get/ would get from people that actually know me oddly enough.. Posted progress pics in here once... crazy amount of comments... posted them on FB... got 10 maybe.0

I am rarely on FB or Twitter and I find both of these services to be crap. Many will not understand and are jealous0 -
I don't think that other people are actually very interested in my workouts or eating habits, so I don't tell them what I'm doing unless they ask. I think if you choose to share very detail of what you are doing, you have to be prepared to accept negative comments as well as positive (or nothing).
It might come across as though you are bragging or showing them up (I'm not suggesting that you are, but it could easily be interpreted that way). Or maybe you make them feel guilty because they aren't working out - which I see as their problem not yours.
But then, I don't use Facebook, so I'm not used to sharing every minute detail of my life.0 -
When I was still of FB, I didn't post my MFP stuff to it. Two different worlds.
As a previous poster said: "People outside MFP do not understand and it's ok."0 -
What the? My friends and I LOVE logging our exercise.
i love to YAAAAAAAAAAAAAY on their posts.
keep doing you......hit the delete button.
oh...i didnt get the facebook part...eff em anyway.0 -
I have a private group of friends on FB and we support each other's weight loss/exercise goals. We've been together on one message board of another for a decade now. I don't post MFP stuff to FB. I don't share as much there in public as I do in private. One of my dear friends had a similar comment made to her about her runs on FB and she got so upset. I love seeing her posts that she's going running because it motivates me to get off my *kitten* and get out there myself. Unfortunately, not everyone understands.0

there are always negative people. Some people cant find anything good about them selves so they set out to tear others down to their level. what could be negative about your losing as much weight as you have so far all i can say is GREAT JOB keep it up0
-
Sorry your friends are acting that way about your fitness. Whatever you're into is gonna be on your mind the most and to you is fitness which isn't a bad thing. Nobody outside of MFP will understand what you are going through. I don't talk about my weightloss with anyone except my husband and my sister (she had the gastric bypass a few years ago) bu I don't feel she quite understands.0

lawls.
**** 'em.
oops. did i say that out loud0 -
People I know said I was anorexic because I was eating healthy? I eventually ate unhealthy food around them so I didnt have to hear it. They are just jealous that you are going to have a rockin' bod0
-
I didn't know you could link facebook with MFP, but I personally wouldn't do it. I don't think people would understand it like MFP ppl do haha i actually think I am more addicted to MFP then Facebook.
but congrats on staying committed to this and minimizing the partying, I am in the same boat with you, there are some people i haven't seen in over a month cuz every time we'd hangout it was just to party.
I am a much happier person now then before.
&you know it? there will always be people who don't understand what u do, or why u r doing it, but just look at this way, you're making your body stronger, who cares what they think,0 -
I dont have my account linked to FB, I have wayyyyyy more support on here than FB!0

I think stuff like that is subdued jealousy rising0

my hubby kinda says the same thing...that i transferred my online gaming obsession to fitness and health....I told him to stuff it and then made him do it with me0 -
You just have to do for yourself what is best. If you want to announce it to the world, then DO IT. Be proud of yourself for making the effort. Tell them to f off if they don't like it, they can hit "unsubscribe" at any time.0

I see your points. i can't just go around in reality talking about working out with people that aren't, just like I can't talk about video games or sports with everybody. I guess the working out/healthy aspects are a personal gain and anyone annoyed by it just seems to be a personal attack towards me and my accomplishments. I will remember that bit of information and remember that people don't like to talk some subjects, but then again, i also like to annoy people, so if they don't like they can always block or delete. I'm not going to waste the energy to delete someone who is annoyed with me. That's energy I could be using on something else more useful to me.0

If they don't want to hear about that, they have the option to filter your posts in their feed or eliminate them altogether. And really, it's your account so you can post whatever you want however often you want. I have friends that'll go into sprees of sharing images I've seen a thousand times or posting youtube links or blog/news posts from other sites. I don't tell them to cut it out. If it bothers me I can just hide all the posts or filter it.
When you actually go and b*tch in the form of joking to a person to stop then you've taken the internet too seriously and need either an ice cream cone or a kick in the nads.0 -
I don't have MFP linked to facebook but I did make a post once when I finally (after years of trying) mastered the jackknife. In fact, I'd managed to work out my abs to where it no longer hurt and was actually kind of fun, so I was proud of it and made a post about that.
Cue a ton of people who have no idea I am even trying to lose weight, let alone what a jackknife is. (Some thought I meant an actual knife...) I had to explain to them that yes, I meant the exercise and that I'm trying to lose weight. They just went "oh".
Second facebook post was when I was rather proud of how much I'd worked out and burned in calories on one reaaaallly active Sunday. (I pretty much cleaned my whole house top to bottom, pulled all the weeds, mowed the lawn, washed the car by hand, reseeded the lawn... lots of work for sedentary me.) I hadn't expected it to be as many calories as it was (I used a calculator outside of MFP and rounded down, just to make sure.) but it was a lot! So I posted a screenshot of my diary where it shows how much I'd ate and how much I gained from exercise.
Lots of people asked what I was talking about. I explained that I am trying to lose weight and get healthy and using MFP as a tool towards that end. Four people told me they signed up after that.
So I guess what I am trying to say is, people on facebook may not understand - but neither did any of us before someone told us about MFP or we for some reason got the idea to find a website to help us be healthier. We all needed help to get here. Facebook can be a great tool for sharing your achievements with your friends and family. It may even convince them to start on their own path to a healthier life... possibly even save their life. So don't stop telling people about your health and fitness achievements. They're a part of who you are now and everyone in your life is going to have to accept that... even people on facebook.0 -
I do have MFP linked to my FB and Twitter. And I've gotten nothing but positive comments and tons of support from my FB and Twitter friends! I always post progress pics and such on both FB and MFP. I need all the support I can get, and odds are my FB friends would have a better chance of kicking me back up on the wagon if I ever fall off since I know them IRL vs just on the MFP website.0

Exactly why I don't have any other social media linked to mfp0
