Well, not when it's sitting in front of me. I don't eat bacon on a regular basis, when I indulge I definitely make the most of it.0 -

There's already a hundred posts in here, so I'm sure someone has already pointed out the difference between a ton of heavy, saturated fat versus a good helping of polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat? And how one of those fats while needed by the body in some amount, stimulates your insulin response, but the other type actually speeds up your metabolism and is rarely stored as fat by the body?
I eat bacon. Love bacon. Bacon on anything makes it better. Bacon bits. Bacon burgers. Bacon wrapped hot dogs. Bacon cologne. Bacon bras.
Best let's not convince ourselves that bacon is health food. Some is cool, but a lot of it and you will pay for it. On the other hand, I've seen dguys that have built massive physiques with peanut butter as their main staple. Now, these are mostly guys in prison but hey, whatever works, right?
Joking aside, look up the difference between types of fat and the effect on your body.0 -

That is just like any food if you don't look at the back to see what is in them Regular Peanut butter VS Natural Peanut butter or Regular Bacon VS Turkey Bacon..
With all the complete nutrional information including soudium and cholestrol and sugar and so on. Sometimes the orginal is better then the all nautrual same with the bacon sometimes the regular is better It all depends on a person taste. Just like real or powder peanutbutter if I had to choose I would choose reall ever time more calories but which is better in the long run.. powder.. It is just what your personal taste leans towards.0 -
I like both bacon and peanut butter. PB is a great vegetarian protein. It's also got a lot of nutrients in it that things like bacon don't. I'll take the fat in peanut butter over the fat in bacon any day.

have you looked at the amount of poly and monounsaturated fat is in it? do you know what health benefits that has?
also bacon has a lot of sodium. do you know what a lot of sodium can do to you?
people can eat whatever the hell they want. it doesn't have to be the best thing for them. I'll use my calories for whatever I want and I don't care how much calories PB has, I'll factor it into my goals.0 -

The "calories from fat" thing is just dumb. It's simple math in fact. There are 4 calories per gram of protein or carbs, and 6 calories per gram of fat. So in both cases, 16g of fat = 96 "calories from fat", whatever anyone thinks that means.
Whoever decided to put that on labels thought we were too stupid to multiply a number by 6.0 -

I won't say anything cruel about people who thinks bacon is better than peanutbutter. But peanutbutter is a healthy fat! I was always thinking that peanubutter had only bad fats and could make you gain weight, but i was soo wrong. I felt a little jump in mt weight loss when I switched all bad carbs w/ healthy fats. And bacon.....hmm, I find it very oily. But I don't have anything against people who likes it. I'm flexitarian anyway so I rarely eat meat/fish/chicken etc.0

There are no BAD fats. Saturated fat is only bad if you eat it to the exclusion of other fats. We need all three fats, which was the whole point of Smart Balance...it is an equal balance of all three fats. But Smart Balance only makes sense if the fats you eat throughout the day from the foods you eat also have that balance, and they don't. You have to pay attention and create your own balance. I don't do this perfectly, but I do have it in mind when I cook my eggs in coconut oil and put delicious butter on my toast.
The worst thing about bacon is the chemicals used to cure it, not the fat. But yeah, if you live on a steady diet of bacon you're going to tip the balance of saturated fats vs. the other two, so not a good idea. The good thing is that a little bacon can go a long way, so if you're adding it to a salad, for instance, you're not getting all that much fat.
And yeah, fat is calorie dense...all of it. So, all fat can make you fat if it is putting you over your calories. I love fat, apparently, because my fat calories are almost the highest of my macros daily.0 -

Okay, then I'm wrong. I didn't know pork fat was more unsaturated than saturated. So I guess it has it's own balance. Anyway, coconut oil is saturated, too, so I screwed up on that one as well. I love all fat anyway, so I'm not worried about it. I just always try to avoid processed foods...cured bacon is processed. Probably high in sodium, which I am watching to protect my kidneys. I love it, I eat it, but not every day. My real point is that saturated fat, which others were pointing to, is not evil in and of itself.0 -
Just an FYI, humans have been eating cured meat in one form or another for at least as long as they've been riding on boats, so I wouldn't be so quick to pin any modern-day epidemics on that. Even the word salary comes from ancient roman soldiers who got paid salt rations so they could keep their meat from spoiling.0

In any context when I think of something as a good source of protein, the majority of the calories in that item should be coming from protein.
Peanut butter is a good tasty food. It is not a good source of protein.
Equivalently, I couldn't get my daily requirement of protein from pure peanut butter because I'd have to consume about 5000 calories to do so.
EDIT: But this has nothing to do with whether or not peanut butter is "good" or "bad" for you, as that is also context dependent.0 -

Don't just compare the amount of protein. Look at the other things such as fiber, vit. E, magnesium, potassium, vit. B6, and sodium amount.

The good source of oil for peanuts is debatable. Peanut oil is an omega 6 oil. When we have more Omega 6 than Omega 3 we get an exaggerated inflammatory effect.
