Does it count that my hair naturally makes the walls jealous in it's flatness?
It's down to the bottom of my shoulder blades again and hopefully will be back to tushy length by the end of the year. :drinker:
Another lady for Tailbone length, alright!!0 -
I would love to grow my hair out but sadly, I've noticed my hair falling out like crazy lately and I'm not sure why. It's not over processed or damaged so I'm kind of scared it may be a health issue. Any tips how I can change my diet to help?
Have there been any other changes lately? I had a major shed post-partum with my first baby. I also started losing a lot of hair when I tried conditioner-only washing. As a matter of fact, I shed a LOT if I put conditioner directly on my scalp.
Sorry I'm not much help for diet or supplements for hair loss, though... maybe someone else here knows?
Also, there is a long hair community forum that has a TON of info about natural hair, long hair, growing hair out, etc. http://forums.longhaircommunity.com0 -
I've been growing mine out. It's about mid-back right now and I don't plan on chopping it off any time soon.0

stress could be the issue. I dont know of any diet reasons it would be falling out unless you arent getting balanced nutrients. A hair and/or multivitamin may help with that. There are alot of Ayurvedic remedies that ppl swear by to reduce hair fallout. you should look into it. Just google "reduce hair fall" or "shedding"0 -
i'm a dreadhead. started last july. wash with completely natural/organic/vegan shampoo made for dreadlocks. don't do anything else to it. my hair is texture is med to fine with a loose spiral curl/wave. when its short i have curls. when long just a slight wave. its been an amazing natural experience so far. just being able to wake up and do nothing to my hair is amazing. i hope to keep my dreads for a couple years at least, but i will probably cut them at around 5 years. unless i decide to go all out hippy. lol. jk.0

Well I had a miscarriage in the middle of last month, I know I had lost some after my son was born as well but at the point of miscarriage my hair had already been shedding more than normal, and now within the past couple weeks it has gotten worse. Might need to find me a pretty wig :frown:0 -
hi! I just joined and I think it would be great to start a group like that. I have been natural for 9 months and I LOVE it. My hair looks healthy and feels great. Now to get my body going in the right direction!0

I'm definitely not a naturalista by definition as I get trims done on my hair every 8 weeks and get a partial hightlight on the top of my head. I do however do not hair dry my hair and am interested in getting some good vegan all natural shampoo/conditioner.
Let me know if anyone has any good suggestions.0 -
I got a perm last summer to give my hair some type of texture... I wish I could take it back because breakage increased for sure. But I have think hair that is a little longer than waist length0
-
I just cut 6 inches off my hair not too long ago to get it above my butt. I intake a lot of calcium and i think it has an effect on my hair. I buy my conditioner in bulk because anything else is expensive. I try to stick with Pantene or sulfate free stuff. Hot oil treatments are good too.0

i just want it to be a journey, but i dont want to become obsessed with my hair as many dreadheads do. thats why i have a sort of limit. also its sort of a social and personal experiment.0 -
I'm a nappy.
My locs are just below my waist. I've been chemical free since 1996.
Well, I did color 10-15 of my 400 locs in 2007. :blushing:0 -

someone earlier stated they are using trader Joes. which is supposed be mostly all natural and great for your hair0 -

Im so sorry for your loss. I hope you and your family are managing alright with that happening so recently...That may have alot to do with your shedding along with the stress of the traumatic experience. It should subside in a month or so. My prayers go out to you and your family ;-)0 -

Thats okay, we all have set backs. just nurse your hair back to health slowly. Conditioning and little trims every now and then will helpl keep your hair moisturized until all the damage has grown out. It will be fine hun0 -
I've been growing mine for the past 3 years, starting from a bob with an undercut, lol! I just trimmed the bottom inch off for the first time since I started growing it. It is far from natural though... as may be obvious from the purple in the profile pic, lol.
For years I kept it shorter than shoulder length and didn't even use shampoo. o_O (i was hardcore into sustainability at the time and I am really allergic to most soaps, though my current shampoo is fine)0 -

You sound natural to me. Like I said before there are so many variations to the natural hair community. And many Naturals color they just no longer use perms or relaxers0 -
A group was just created for Long hair and Natural Divas by a fellow Long hair Diva. Long/Natural Hair Divas. Check it out for support, tips and tricks for growing, maintaining and loving your locs0

I have a daughter with very very curly hair (1/4 black), how do you make a 3 year old's hair look good the second day ? if it is even possible with out a conditioner rinse.0
-
Long hair, checking in. Long, curly, messy hair past my waist. Why? Because I don't feel like being a Hillary Clinton Clone (this is how I categorize most shorthairs, which is not very nice, I know, but why do so many women go for the same exact haircut when they hit middle age?).
Tip for long hairs with split ends: I recently acquired the new TreSemme shampoo and conditioner for split ends, and I'm sad to report that it gives me 'poo dandruff, so be warned.0 -
I have curly/wavy hair. I'm trying to grow it out. I want to grow it out to my waist. My hair hasn't been that long since I was about 12.
I use shampoo bars from Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve. You can google to see their products, but I warn you, they are addictive! They have so many shampoo bars, you will definitely want to try more than one. I recommend buying sample bars until you find the best one(s) for your hair/scalp type.
Sometimes, I use an apple cider vinegar+cool water+peppermint oil as a conditioner. The vinegar gets a little strong, so, use oils with it!
Sometimes I use Suave Rosemary and Mint conditioner, only because it was what I had leftover from before I went to shampoo bars. When I run out of it, I will try something more natural.
I also use Lush's H'Suan Wen Hua. It it a bit stinky, but makes my hair feel amazing.
I do not use any other products in my hair. I usually let air dry, and scrunch every few minutes to get the curls shaped. If I blow dry, I scrunch as I go, and never fully dry.
I haven't cut/trimmed my hair in a year and several (four?) months. I have no split ends. I have stopped dying my hair, which I last did with my last cut. I have some greys; so, I may try a coffee stain to cover those.0 -
This makes me a bit sad.I recently chopped off all my hair, it was down to my butt. BUT, I donated it to Locks of Love, so it was for a good cause. I am interested in growing it out again. I don't ever dye my hair, either. I also don't blow dry or anything really ever, except, on the rare occasion, straightening it if I sleep on it funny. I also don't get it cut. If I notice any split ends, I trim them myself.0

I'm a long-hair, for sure! I had a trim in Feb. and cut off about six inches, and it was still at my butt... I had to do something... I was so tired of sitting on it, and having it get shut in doors and windows too! I use Organixx shampoo and conditioner, and only dry and curl my hair very rarely, about two times a year. It's straight for the most part, but I put it in a bun after I get out of the shower so it dries with a bit of twist. I've been tossing around the idea of doing a drastic short cut when I get to goal weight though... I've had hair like this for about 10 years I'd guess and I'm ready for a change.
How cool is this... I think I pulled out a lot of hairs from one spot when I was doing my hair a certain way every day, and I hadn't thought about it, but I started paying attention to my diet and exercising a few months ago (and also the way I put my hair up), and I totally have new frizz growing out from my weird thin spot! Neat!0 -

I am also 1/4 black. My mom used to braid my hair at night. Today, I sometimes put my hair in a bun, if I take a nightly shower, so my hair will look good in the morning. I use big bobby pins, but you could use a sock bun on your daughter at night and remove for nearly perfect hair in the morning when you take it down. Do not brush it, or you brush the curls out.
I hope this helps!0 -

that is a great point about the styling and how repeated tension can cause fallout. I love it. thanx for that tip0
