Are you good at math?

I'm an electrical engineer and I used to teach calculus. I pretty much remember all the calculus I learned, single and multivariable. I remember linear equations pretty well and differential equations. The only math I probably forgot a lot of was probability.0

Here's a simple arithmetic question: A bat and ball cost a dollar and ten cents. The bat costs a dollar more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?
5 cents0 -

see this is what i'm talking about! how is it 5 and not 10cent? -,-0 -
Me. I'm a math nerd.
It's funny ... I can do complex equations but I still have to think hard about my multiplication facts. I just hated the thought of memorizing those stupid things!
That's totally me - well maybe not going as far as to say I was a math nerd. I do love math and I am good at it, but I could never work in a numbers job :noway:0 -

If the ball cost 10cents then the bat would cost $1.10 which means the total would be $1.20.
The ball costs 5cents which would make the bat $1.05 so the total is $1.10.
Oh and I too enjoy math and learning new and more difficult variations of it. I only studied up to Calculus I in college but I'm going to continue to pursue it.0 -
I heart ordinary differential equations
I PDE's too.
To the engineers: how can you truely say you are good at math if your constantly rounding to 3 sig figs  (I kid)0 -

If the ball was 10c then the bat would have to be $1.10 which would make the total cost $1.20.
x(bat) +y(ball) = 1.10
x = y+1
replace x with the y formula: y +1 +y = 1.10
combine like items: 2y +1 = 1.10
isolate the varible: 2y = 1.10-1
Do the math: 2y = .10
Reduce to get the answer: y = .05
Ok, maybe I do rank up there with the math nerds0 -
I love math! Calculus was my favorite class in high school, and I plan on taking tons of math courses in college next year0

I balance the checkbook every month, does that count?
I keep a cheat sheet for my trig formulas in my calculator. After that I have a few reference books in my toolbox to do a few other things. I am always told to utilize programmers at work since that is their job and they have the necessary CAD/CAM software to spit out programs. Unfortunately, most times, I can whip a program out myself quicker than these programmers that have expensive software backing them up. I don't think I am THAT great so it must be something on their end.0 -
I'm not shabby at it. Many moons ago, I got my B.S. in chemistry with a math minor. The more complex it got, the better I understood it. If that makes sense.0

I am currently taking intermediate algebra. I love it. It's fun.0

I love math but I'm terrible at it so I married a math teacher0

Yay - I love math
I taught various middle and high school math classes for the last 10 years and it was a blast! I kind of miss it now that I'm a stay at home mom. I was a computer science major in college though.0 -
I'm the one who circles X and says "here it is" if the problem is asking me to find X......0

Are there really people out there who use an actual cheque book?!?!? Wow.
Sorry if I'm sounding judgmental, but I thought these things went the way of the old passbooks, and the dodo.0 -
I can handle a slide rule...does that answer your question?:laugh:0
-
Math? What's that?0

I have contemplated getting the quadratic formula tattooed on me. it is my faaaaaavorite!0

algebra :grumble:
have to take it in college this fall, maybe they can help me understand that crap0 -
i have a B.S. in Engineering Management.
i would hope i that i was good at math.0 -

As I am a trained bookkeeper, I am proud to say I passed on my love of all things logical and mathematical to two of my sons...one has his Bachelors in Math/Comp Science w/ Studies in Statistics....and the other is heading into the Math field soon as he is done high school. I ask them for assistance in Calcullus and Algebra.0

Math is stupid, and this is the exact reason why…
p.s. I'm going back to school and currently have 90% in both chem and bio, ended up with 65% in advanced functions. Math is balls, and makes NO SENSE!
p.p.s. I actually applaud people who understand formulas, and the such.0 -
I am decent at math but it's definitely not my strongest subject. I took up to Calc. 2 in high school but I certainly don't remember any of it now and I had a really good teacher so I ended up with a B.
I'm a lot better in English and writing.0 -

great at geometry, algerbra, and trig. in fact I used to enjoy being in math class and got put in advanced ones.
cant multiply by nines without using my fingers
fail0 -
I loooove math, but never took anything beyond statistics because I didn't have to for my degree and I'm lazy. No calculus for me! Though part of me thinks I'd really enjoy it...0
