How is someone who is eating at a deficit going to store anything?
Because your body can only use so much at any given time. If its needs are met, then it stores. The idea of a caloric deficit is you force your body to use other sources for energy. If you eat your 1500 or whatever amount this site prescribes for you a day in one sitting, that it is just going to hang out in the blood stream all day being used as the day progresses? No, it's going to be stored as fat once the glucose and glycogen needs are taken care of.

Exactly. Your body is storing AND BURNING fat 24 hours a day. It is a constant process. Yes, if you eat 1500 calories in one meal the body will store what it doesn't need as fat in the short term, but over a 24 hour period it will burn all of it off plus however much else it needs to make up the caloric deficit.
It's really not a difficult concept to grasp. At least, it shouldn't be.
If you deposit $100 in your bank account but need to pay a $200 bill, your account doesn't magically get to keep that $100 you put in, it gets spent either way.0 -
totally NOT TRUE. calories in vs calories out, i could eat a whole wheat roll full of like 30g of carbs every nite before bed, and if it fits in with my calorie intake for that day, my body isnt going to gain a damn thing. MAYBE alittle water weight from the carbs.... and ill pee it out after i exercise0

Note the article says "energy not used immediately into triglycerides, which are transported to and stored in fat cells" This happens irregardless of an overall caloric deficit. Yes, you will most likely burn those stores the next day as fat works on a LIFO system, but that is a moot point as the issue was specifically more carbs during a period of day prior to sleep where, generally, people are less active.
If you have insulin in your system when you go to bed, you are inhibiting HGH secretion at night. HGH and insulin do not get along with each other so when one is present, you will not find the other. HGH gets secreted at night during deep sleep and has an insulin-like friend that comes with it that regulates metabolism, estrogen, testosterone, etc. A lack of hgh also is associated with "belly fat". It's not about "weight gain" versus "weight loss". Nor is it the "carbs are bad" thing either. Caloric deficits in and of themselves will drive weight loss. I just prefer mine to be driven more by lipolysis and not have it be catabolic hence I will make my final meal of the evening protein (string cheese and cottage cheese are two good foods for that) and no carbs.

Third, insulin does not inhibit release of hgh, Hyperglycemia does, which is a very specific medical condition, not just "having insulin in your system."
Insulin, HGH, and IGF-1 all work together to build and maintain muscle mass.0 -

This can't be true, I eat carbs all the time after 6pm, sometimes even in bed! (gasp!) And I am not fat.
I plan to eat a crap ton (yes, this is a unit of measurement) of carbs on Friday, even after 6pm.

These discussions always amaze me, I know very little about physiology but common sense would tell me you don't eat a bagel one minute and have the refined nutrients it contains enter your blood stream the next, with anything not used up the next minute converted to fat stores. The body is efficient but its not that efficient.0 -
Well biologically speaking your body tends to prefer to use carbs than fats; that means if there are sugars in your blood (that's what carbs become) the body prefers to use them instead of using fats.
Carbs are preferred because certain organs like brain and muscles use primarily sugars as energy source (their metabolism is quicker than fat's metabolism).
If there's too much sugar in the blood the excess will be converted to fat, on the contrary if there's too little the body will start fat's metabolism to reach the adequate energy amount.
In conditions of low fats and carbs diet your body will start protein metabolism, which is kinda dangerous because it produces ammonia, which can harm your kidney of you don't drink enough water. In addition our body isn't able to create all the aminoacids required for our cells to work, so this means if you get to the protein metabolism you should eat a lot of proteins to replenish the ones you use as energy source (meat mostly contains proteins that we already are able to synthesize as mammals, to introduce essential aminoacids you should make sure to eat veggies and legumes).

I'm currently studying biotechnology so this is daily bread for me, I hope I didn't manage to bore you

I have a problem, someone please help me. I am 5'7 and 120 pounds and wish to maintain weight but I ate nachos with cheese sauce, salsa, jalapenos and a large movie theatre sized coke after 10 last night. In fact I ate 2,390 cals yesterday and 329 of those were in carbs, but I woke up lighter? If I get fat eating carbs after a specific time, am I suppose to be going on a different time zone or something? When is this fat monster who loves carbs going to strike? Has somebody killed him?0

This is working for me. I would not share it otherwise. I'm losing weight for the first time in a year AND with a thyroid problem. I'm not saying this applies to everyone but it is working for me. I will continue to post what's working for me in hopes that it will help someone else who is trying to lose weight. You can agree or disagree if you want.0

Lower carbs may be working for someone with a thyroid issue but the bs 'rules' are well...,.bs and not even relevant for someone without a pre-existing medical condition.0
