The author is from London I believe which may explain her referring to it as her "sex"? Maybe that's what they call it there...
    They did in 1450.

    It's about sex.

It should be THAT easy to describe the book.

I finished all 3 books in less than a week, I loved them. It has LOTS of graphic sexual scenes in the book but basically it is about a billionaire with a dark past who meets a young innocent girl (you will have to read the book to see how it turns out)! We call it Mommy Porn :)

I finished all three in a week because I had to write reviews on them for my other job. The "mommy porn" always makes me giggle when I see it. But, the sex scenes really aren't all that graphic. It's pretty mild compared to most erotica.

Fad book. If you are an older woman who has only had vanilla sex her whole life it will probably make you wanna bang a young dude who wants to tie you up and beat you like you are his crack *kitten* mother. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Its a pretty good read. I really liked the Christian Grey character. Most of the characters annoyed the **** out of me though. I read a lot more into the personalities of characters in books, so its not a problem for most. The writing is terrible and she is pretty repetitive.

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty is 10x worse than 50 Shades of Grey.

10X worse in regards to the sexual side...100X better in the story/plot/grammar side! Anne Rice been writing porn since I was a kid! LOL

Hmmm.... is it atleast better written? As in not using the same phrases and adjectives multiple times in a row?

    It's Anne Rice.
As in - Interview with the Vampire, Queen of the Damned.
Yes, much better writing. Much better everything.

No. It's not porn. If it were it would say things like " Christian, stop being a jerk and stick your c@ck in my c@nt already!"

I write porn , romance, and erotica. All under a pen name. 12 published.

It's more like one step up from romance but hovers around erotica.

There is the mention of the work F@ck more often than not.

They claim it as BDSM, but it's not true to that. There is a play room and some spanking/flogging. A little bit of tying up. It's embarrassing to most in the BDSM community.

The grammar is awful. The writer is in London. The story is based in the USA. Her characters speak as if they are British. Bullocks. We don't speak like that. My family is Irish and this was even an embarrassment to them. I stopped counting the grammatical and spelling errors after the first chapter.

Every author , including EL James will tell you - she just got lucky.

Fan fiction. Yes, that. The author loved Twilight and set out to make up some grown-up characters. The characters personalities resemble that of Edward and Bella. That's about it. Hes controlling like Edward. She naive and clumsy like Bella.

The characters are underdeveloped. Anyone who has had a creative writing or literature class will tell you that.

    But.
    No one cares.

    Exactly.

I have read all 3. For me, it is Cinderella with a lot of sex. Yes, it is explicit and imaginative but I would be somewhat open minded if I met a hot billionaire. It is not happening for me, I am too old, but women have done a lot worse, like dating convicts and having their children. For those who condemn the book, oh well. I did want to slap her "inner Goddess" a few times.

It's a really good series (for the most part) and you won't be able to put it down. Although I think it's the same idea as Twilight in the sense it centers around some plain-jane, vulnerable, innocent girl and the guy has a dark, sadistic side that's appealing and dangerous.

Is it appropriate? That depends. For younger audiences, no it isn't. It's basically like some BDSM porno for about 1/3 (possibly more) of the book.

It was a good read, however I found it to be immature and too much of the Twilight factor played into it. If you liked Twilight, you'll probably like the 50 Shades series

Someone told me it started as Twilight fan fic.

I've read all three and loved the storyline. The first book was a little "uncomfortable" to get through...especially when my child was anywhere around! Over all, it is a Cinderella story with some "kinky...." thrown in :smokin:

I read the first one and refuse to read any farther.

It is crap. Seriously, I could watch better stuff on porn. I feel Grey is more predator than anything along the lines of romantic.
I almost quit reading at the TOM removal scene.....WTF. :noway:

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy bedroom antics and I am more than willing to be submissive to my husband but the way this story was presented just made me sick.

    Just *my* opinion though. :drinker:

Basically, you like to be bossed or you want to boss. You like a little pain with your pleasure. Being tied up, immobilized, sissified, spanked, flogged, tied, and verbally abuse excited you.
I think you meant masochism, not machismo. Totally different things.

I don't think most people condemn the book not becuase of the "explicit" nature but for the terrible writing! Most people pick it up knowing it's going to have a little something steamy in there... and that's the ONLY reason some pick it up, lol... but then you just can't get past the authors lack of ability.

I actually didn't care for the book and stopped reading after ten chapters. I found the female main charater cliche and one dimensional. She didn't react to situations in a plausible fashion giver her personality and character history. For me it was like a Rate R cheesy harlequin book in a nice cover.
