Anderson Cooper's gay: Am I the only how doesn't give a damn
Replies

actually, Anderson never " CAME OUT" ...........He responded to an email about his sexuality, he never went " live" or made boradcasts about his sexuality
also, hes Gloria Vnderbilts son, great grandson of Commodore Conelius Vanderbilt, one of the wealthiest men in the world........I doubt that he would want to write a book to make millions
and its nice to see a gay man with a respected job in the media..........I guess for some gays , younger gays who are going thru hell for being gay, seeing him in life lets them know that there are possibilities for them.......unlike the negative sterotypes that are used against gays...
hope he and his partner have a great life...........0 -
Exactly! For every gay celebrity that comes out, hopefully there's one less kid out there that will get bullied or harassed for their actual or perceived sexual orientation.
:flowerforyou:
Exactly! Eventually, hopefully, no one will care what your sexual orientation is because it won't be grounds for bigotry and hatred. But until then, I am thrilled when people like Anderson come out.0 -
I didn't like him when he was straight either.
LOL0 -

Gosh you guys are so lucky to personally know a celebrity0 -
Holy cow! Anderson Cooper is gay???? No way! Who's Anderson Cooper?
Famous rock and roller. Once bit the head off a chicken, as I recall.

Before I knew Anderson Cooper was gay: My mortgage was due, my car notes were due, my student loans were due, my teenager was driving me crazy.
After I found out Anderson Cooper's gay: My mortgage is still due, my car notes are still due, my student loans are still due, my teenager is still driving me crazy.
Now that I know Anderson Cooper is in fact gay, my life is clearly changing for the better.0 -
Umm I thought everyone already knew he was Gay........................who even cares...CNN sucks...Go watch FOX0

How could one not like Anderson Cooper?0
-
Anderson Cooper is gay. And newsflash, water is wet.0
-
Always thought he was but I didn't dwell on it because he is a good journalist and person. Let's look at the person and not their sexuality. It doesn't matter to me one way or another.0
-
Ummmm.....who is that again????0
-
I don't even know who he is !!0
-
i wonder if i could change him
what? he's cute.
my first thought. lol
also- I think it's an empowering thing for him to come out. If someone with a good professional reputation can come out and say "I'm gay," I think for those unfortunate people who have a problem with it can be proven ignorant. Or.. can be proved to that just because someone's gay doesn't mean they can't be successful/admirable/etc etc.
I'm not saying that the way I want to but I think you see what I'm getting at?0 -
I COULDN'T CARE less! He's still the effing silver fox! I can watch him on mute!0
-
Am I the only one who thought he came out years ago??? I really thought he did and this was old news. Not worth making head lines over!0

If it doesn't have any bearing on your life, then fine, although it raises the question of why you felt the need to start a discussion about it on a public forum. But at the end of the day, some young person's life might actually be changed for the better by such a prominent media personality coming out, so yes, it's big news to some people. Go on about your day, and if you feel that someone's sexual orientation shouldn't be a news item, then you don't need to talk about it. Seems pretty simple to me.0 -
Great responses. If Anderson Cooper and other celebrities admitting they are gay will raise awareness and stop people from bullying, discriminating against and hating homosexuals then perhaps it is a good thing. Who Anderson Cooper or any other celebrity dates or has sex with is still of NO concern to me. I still say live and let live. Mr. Cooper is successful, wealthy and famous. He also appears to be comfortable with who he is despite the fact it goes it against the traditional American way of life.0

Again, I posted this thread to see what others think. I'm sitting in a doctor's office waiting room and I'm bored. Please don't admonish me for what I choose to post. If a young person's life is changed for the better because Mr. Cooper revealed he is gay then that's good. However, I still don't care who he dates or sleeps with.0 -
In other news, the sky is blue.0

I agree with a little of what each person so far has said.. but here is the truth.
We are losing young people to suicide.Young people who have been told ;(still) by peers, by stereotypes in media that by mere luck of the draw they were born inferior. When anyone comes out..celebrity...neighbour..their friends..it is like someone is saying, "You are okay. You are normal. You are accepted. You are worthy of love and you have value.". Even more so when a celebrity comes out because they are coming out in such a big way. Am I shocked that Anderson is gay? I am regretfully not shocked ( he is so cute)..and I DO wish that it could be a non -who-cares issue;sort of like eye colour or gender...but in N.America Blue eyed people and brown eyed people have the same rights..no one gets killed over eye colour ( Matthew Shepard) and no one says green eyed people are abominations against God.
I have worked with thousands of children over the years and have early on identified who I thought may be LGBT and all I could do is support them and treat them no different. That is all I wish for them as they have left my fold and gone out in to the world.0 -
I definitely thought he was already out! haha!0
-
Not a surprise, but actually sad that he felt he needed to announce it. The US is so uptight and bigoted against people who are different, it's pathetic. I was recently in Toronto and the amount of acceptance there is almost tangible - quite different from the majority of the US.
Amen!0 -
I agree that it shouldn't make a difference, but sadly until society accepts diversity unconditionally, it will still make the headlines and maybe not always for the right reasons.
I have no idea who Anderson Cooper is; I've just googled him and he looks cute (but then he's on the TV so I guess that's a foregone conclusion in the USA) It would also appear he has been openly gay for sometime so it does bet the question why this is suddenly all over the media.0 -
OOHHH!!! So that's why they were doing a story on him on the news last night lol
I kind of already figured that out, though0 -
I don't normally bother with this stupid message board, but something you said needs addressing.
I live in North Carolina, where we recently voted (pretty overwhelmingly) to constitutionally establish marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman, effectively telling gay people that they don't have the right to marry.
It's not gay people who are too obsessed with their sexuality. As everyone has said, we all "knew" Cooper was gay, but he was dignified and professional and never said a word about it, until yesterday. It's the straight people, hell-bent on subjugating the gays through legislation who are far too concerned with OTHER people's sexuality.
Edit: marry, not vote. Still tired.0 -
Umm I thought everyone already knew he was Gay........................who even cares...CNN sucks...Go watch FOX
Puleeeeze. Fox News? Really?
They both suck. Terribly and unredeemably.
I think AC was simply publicly acknowledging the fact that he is gay, something most of us already knew. The more people stop hiding who they are, the easier it is for the next person to accept themselves as well. Like it or not, public figures are role models so if they show tolerance and acceptance, it helps offset the horrible bigotry and judgementalism that is out there.0 -
I'm gay. Can someone come do a story on me?0
-
Cool.0

I'm gay. Can someone come do a story on me?
You'd like that too much.0 -
You cared enough to post about it.
It is important because there is still a lot of hatred, discrimination, and violence against gay people. When that's a thing of the past, celebrities won't need to come out.
Are you kidding me? The guy will probably write another book about it and make millions of dollars. That's why "celebrities" come out.
You obviously have no clue. They come out for the same reason why those who have had cancer etc talk about it. It's to raise awareness. If people see that even celebrities are gay, have illnesses, etc it allows "regular" people to relate and be more aware. I can't remember the last person who wrote a book solely on their sexuality and made a bunch of money off it.
No, he does have a clue. Awareness is everywhere. Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, and countless others have come out and brought their sexuality in the spotlight. Who is still in the dark about it? Where is it being hidden and suppressed in the U.S. flagrantly and purposefully? I can't think of anywhere. It's all over the place like heterosexuality so the point being made is whether or not, as it relates to celebrities, it has reached a point of societal saturation yet. The Op and me lean towards thinking it has but that's not going to make or break us, the parties involved, or the cause in an of itself.
Are you kidding me?? Teenagers still commit suicide over this, parents still send their gay children to damaging camps to *fix* them, churches still preach hatred against gays, gays are still not allowed the same rights this country offers to straight people, people are still murdered because they are gay. Yet you think they should all just let it go now? They've made their presense known and that should be the end of it??
I encourage more and more people to *come out* until all of the above stops, or AT LEAST the majority of the population accepts them and fights against these atrocities. They should keep *coming out* until their presence is accepted and their rights are equal to ours. Until then, there is still work to do.
^^^ Gotta agree with you. I am not gay, BUT I consider myself very open-minded and accepting of anyone, really. Unless you're flat out MEAN lol.
Anyways, although we may be "aware" or gays, America is NOT accepting of them. Hence why gay marriage still hasn't been legalized. Yes, it is all over the place NOW and over the years because we've developed technology and media and celebrities are starting to come out now more than ever which is a GREAT thing. But awareness and ACCEPTANCE are two totally different things. We do have one, but not the other. At least not as much as there should be.0
