I have four They are all huge, the smallest one i have is on my foot but it fills my whole foot. I have a pin up girl on my back, roses and swirls on my left side/hip, a marilyn monroe portrait on my thigh and a rose and a quote on my foot.
They are all easily hidden but easily shown too! I can just wear shorts or dolly shoes to show two of them off, or wear pumps and leggings to cover them. I'm only at university at the moment, but i'm going into the media industry, so tattoo's aren't a big deal. I don't think many employers are too fussed anymore, because in our society, the majority of people do have tattoo's or piercings!0 -
I have 12 tattoos; one of which is a 3/4 sleeve of a valkyrie and a wolf on my left arm. I am an operations lead at a conservative oil&gas company
I can cover all of my tattoos if needed.0 -
I like to express my individuality by not having any tattoos ...0

i have my mums name on my wrist. i got it during a job i had this year.
if they had said anything i would have walked out haha
im getting another on my hip so no one can see it.
it wouldn't bother me if i got rejected because of a tattoo. they mean more to me
than a job i'm going to hate! depends what job you are going for though0 -
I have a full sleeve on my left arm and a large piece on my right arm that goes from my shoulder to halfway to my elbow. I work as the assistant to the program manager in a non-profit organization that assists adults with intellectual disabilities and/or mental illnesses that falls under the supervision of a government program - this was my full-time job prior to having a child, and once she turned 2 (she's nearly 3 now) I went back a few mornings a week. I'm also a birth doula. I'm not particularly young (31) but I've had them some years.
I've never had an issue with employment either in a 'professional' setting nor in meeting with potential birth clients, and I don't make an effort to cover them up.0 -
I'm 30, got my first one at 25, second at 26, and third/fouth at the same time in January.
My shoulder is a Sun with the rays blowing over it's face, it represents a new beginning (I had just broken up with my fiance when I got it).
My ankle is a crescent moon with a star. no real meaning other than I liked it.
The underneath of my forearms are paw prints, which I have yet to have a negative comment on.
I did have a job interview where I went in long sleeves, I got the one's on my forearms a little higher so I can easily cover them with sleeves.
I work as a Senior Pharmacy Technician at a major retail chain pharmacy in the US. My bosses so far have loved the paw prints. I have been there 6 years, and we have employees with neck tattoos, piercings, and I go in with different colored hair all the time. Thankfully the company is very tolerant of employees body art and I don't think they would discriminate unless you had something politically incorrect tattooed in a visible spot.0 -
I have 4 tattoo's. I am 30 this year and got my first when i was nearly 16.. my second was about 19, my third probably early 20's and my 4th last year.. I'm planning my next one.. Mine are on my arms and shoulders which can be hidden when at work. I have a little heart on my wrist but i wear bracelets too so it's not always noticeable. I want another on my shoulder and quite a big one on my thigh, I do like mine to be able to be covered if needed but i love showing them off!0

I got my first tattoo in 1990. Not many girls had tattoos then so it was pretty cool and ballsy at the time. I've gotten 3 more since - and now everyone has them - seems like it's more rare to find someone with "virgin skin" than someone with a tattoo. So much for being unusual.0

Do any doctors in your office have tats?
Thanks
my girlfriend is a doctor, in the midst of her residency at harvard and has her upper right arm and lower left arm covered in really beautifully done tattoos. she's covered up 95% of the time, but on the services where she needs to wear scrubs, they're highly visible. of course she is concerned about people's reactions, especially in a conservative place like Boston (i know, right?) but ink isn't an indicator of competence, and one's integrity should be based on their work ethic, intellect, and ability to do their job.
i'm a educational technology specialist in NYC and i have a few tattoos on my arms and shoulder. they're visible and i don't try to hide them unless i'm interviewing or get a sense that the school culture is such that tattoos would be frowned upon, in which case i wouldn't want to work for that particular institution anyway.
i've had students as young as 12 tell me they're going to get tattoos as soon as they are allowed, and i tell them that they should discuss it with their family members first and really think long and hard about whether this is something they can live with forever. it doesn't stop them all, but hopefully it gives them enough pause for consideration.
i've been deliberating over my next two tattoos for 5 years now.0 -
If my tattoo showed when I was having a job interview I'd be very worried!
I didn't have mine done until I was about 45, and I have a spray of stars with a butterfly emerging on my right hip.
Actually glad it's there as the outline ink has bled into the rest of the tattoo, too thick a needle was used apparently and poor quality ink, so I tend to forget I have it until I catch a glimpse of it in the mirror......
I am tempted to have one on my foot but finance decrees otherwise..... I don't think it would adversely affect job prospects as tattoos are seen more as a work of art these days, and are much more socially acceptable I think.0 -
I have a few tattoos..I plan to have many tattoos...I don't care about what I will look like when I'm older because quite frankly I can't remember the last time the thought of an old person with tattoos passed my mind or even concerned me so I'm very sure people will not be bothered what I look like when I'm older!!
I'm a teacher and all my tattoos are easily hidden and out of sight when I work - I had no problem getting a job and I don't see why they should be unless you have like the Nazi sign on your forehead or KKK written on your knuckles!0 -
I dont haVe any but i have considered it but i wasnt sure where to put it???
I have tattoos. I don't have anything against them at all, but if that is you in your profile pic, my advice to you would be don't mess with perfect. :blushing:

I am 29 and currently have 4; 1 is completely hidden and the other 3 are not blatantly visible, but parts of them can be seen on occasion. I am a few months away from my doctoral degree in clinical psychology and have yet to come across any issues with school, internship, or job experiences due to tattoos. In fact, a good percentage of my cohort members have tattoos, many of them much more visible than mine, and none of us have come across any road blocks due to them. I think society is changing and definitely becoming more open to, and less judgmental of tattoos and the tattoo culture.0

I'm nineteen, got mine when I was sixteen. It's on my back (From the neck to the middle of my back). I've never had any problems getting a job, but then again I can easily cover that tattoo, but I do have an eyebrow piercing and a side cut and never had a problem, I think society is becoming more comfortable with body modification I plan on getting a sleeve done (once I hit my goal weight ), also getting one on my foot.0

I have one tattoo, on my back, that I've had since I was 18 (it was a birthday present to myself). I'm 27 now. I made sure I chose something meaningful to me. I was a Registered Nurse, so I got a medical symbol. I wanted it on my back because I knew that trying to get a job, especially as a nurse, would be harder with visible tattoos. Although, a couple of nurses I knew had tattoo sleeves; they had to wear long sleeve shirts to cover them up. I've since decided that nursing is not for me, but I am still staying in the medical profession. Even if I didn't, it was still a part of my life and I don't regret getting my tattoo. Not sure I would ever get another one though.0

I'm 24 and I got my tattoo when I turned 18. I work in fashion, but have worked in a range of places, from supermarkets to offices while I was a student. It's easily covered, but I found people were interested to see it, rather then going 'ew you have a tattoo'. I think it's generally accepted, unless you plan to work in a particular profession, like law or politics.0

I am 32 and have had my tat for 3 weeks. It's on my back, so it is almost always covered at work. However, I work at a university, and the associate dean saw it. She thought it gave a different part of my personality from what she had seen up until now, but she didn't get upset about the fact that it could be seen.0

I have 3, on my inner right wrist, just above the elbow on my left arm, and one right over my heart.
I haven't had any issue with getting a job, although I am a call center trainer (been with the company 5.5 years now and had all 3 showing during the interview), so around the call center they are usually pretty cool with peircings and tats as long as they arn't vulgar or over-the-top. It was requested by my supervisor that I wear a shirt that covers the chest and arm tats only when meeting with potential clients, which is pretty rare and completely reasonable since that is a more professional atmosphere. My wrist tat wasn't even noticed by my manager until I had been with the company for almost 3 years and even then she as like "oh, is that a butterfly?" (it's a tiny brontosaurus) and asked me when I got it done. She looked a little dumbfounded when I pointed out that I had it for 6 years at that point, and also pointed out it was a dinosaur.
Still to this day not sure how she thought it was a butterfy.....
I think the corporate culture towards tats is shifting a lot, which is a good and bad thing at the same time. Good because it lets people be more unique, and not being judged as much, but bad in the sense that it does lead to abuse when employers are cool about it. Such as the agent who got a very vulgar and pornographic tat on his arm and then tried to dispute as to why he was asked to not wear short sleeve shirts anymore when other people had tats. You'd think there would be common sense, but there are always the people who lack it, or, just like causing controversy for the sake of causing it.0 -
My latest one that I've had for 7 months is on my wrist. It hasn't given me trouble at work but ive started a job search so I may have an issue now.
Thanks. I got a couple of them, ill see which one covers the best.0 -
So whenever i struggle to find the strength to go on, i suck it up from the bottom of my spine and remember what she taught me.

I'll be getting my first tattoo this Thursday on my back. I'm not too worried about having tattoos effect my professional career in the future, since I do plan on getting one on my wrist and ankle at some point. Tattoos are becoming more and more okay in the professional world(not really face tattoos) but for my career I'm not worried about it. I could see other careers where it would be something that I'd worry about.0

i have never had a problem because of a tat. but none of mine are that visible all the time. i have had mine from when i was 16-20 (im 23) to me its art...its part of me...all my tats. have meaning behind them0

My tattoos have not caused me any issue. I am a nurse. I have one on my chest (sometimes part of it is visible, some times not) one on my shoulder blade, my thigh, my ankle and the word "believe" in a pretty script on my left wrist. The only ones that show at work are sometimes the one on my chest and of course the one on my wrist. A lot of nurses I work with have tattoos. I think if they are tasteful they have not been a problem for anyone I know.
Do any doctors in your office have tats?
Thanks
I work in a hospital rather than an office. But you know...I never really noticed if they did or not. If they do, they are not very obvious. A couple of the Nurse Practitioners in the unit do have them. I cant honestly remember it ever being an issue. As a matter of fact, when I interviewed for that job I had an eyebrow piercing. I took it out a couple of years ago, but not because anyone asked me too. I just got tired of it getting caught in my bangs all the time0 -
I'm 23 and have six: collarbone, half-sleeve, a big one on my calf, a huge one on my back, and one on each shoulder. I work as a secretary/biller at a freight center and it's not hard to cover them all up, though I've discovered that almost everyone there has a tattoo (even the center manager has a visible one down his arm). I've gotten some surprised looks from having these larger tattoos, but I've gotten even more comments on how beautiful they are (my half-sleeve is van Gogh's Starry Night). People are becoming less judgmental about tattoos in this day and age. I've only gotten one comment asking what I'm going to do when I'm old (be old and covered in tattoos, duh).0
-
Yeah they seem to be getting so common these days (just like piercings.) I got my tattoos in 2009. They're on my ankles (couldn't think of anywhere else to stick em.) I work in radio so it's not a big deal but in college they had said even getting a job in radio with visible tattoos would be hard. I think times have changed since then. When I lose all my weight I'm thinking I would like one on my rib cage but we'll see.0

I'm a full time college student. I work in the fast food/restaurant industry and generally find that pulling my hair into a shoulder-draping ponytail, the small tattoo behind my ear can be covered (the same goes for when I become a nurse - it can be hidden by hair). It can affect my job potential but it has yet to prevent me from getting a job. The only time I'd find it difficult is if a job required my hair in a tight bun. In my last job, I'd style my hair however I want and I had colorful, fun flower and bow clip-in's that covered it up.
My other tattoo is on my foot. It absolutely does not affect my job outcome at all. My dress pants cover it when I interview, and I never have and likely never will work for an establishment where it will matter. I'm 22.0 -
I have 5, my wrist tattoo bracelet is the only one thats visible, the rest are real easy to hide. I got 2 on my back and one on each ankle. I got them all before my weight loss journey, I have not had any problem with them. My bracelet needs touched up, I think it's just due to location. My career is early childhood. I work daycare currently in the infants room, but my preferred age group is ones or twos.0
-
I have three. I got mine while I was in the military. One on my chest, one on my right thigh and one on my right bicep. Usually not visible but if people ask I do like to show them. Bicep was done in Korea and the other two were done in Italy.0
-
I have a few..., one really big one. I worked in accounting and payroll for 13 years so made sure that mine weren't visible in a "professional" environment. All of mine have a story or a meaning... I think the people that go out and get matching ones with their friends will be the ones that regret theirs later in life.0
