Fat Clothes - Toss or Pack Away?

Yes the metabolism slows as we get older, this does not mean that we have to become overweight. Don't plan to get fat as you age. Give the clothes to charity or sell them.0

sell them!! make money0

I'm giving all mine away and getting rid of them. I don't want anything here to make me feel like it's okay to gain it back. No excuses, I only go down from here....not up.0
-
ive been giving mine away, but realy thinking now as i have loads more to get rid of to sell on ebay.0
-
Give them to charity, don't ever plan on using them again one day! x0

I am taking the purge of old clothes in bite size pieces - I went from busting out of 14's to mostly size 8's. I am following the Niecy Nash "Clean House" rule of thumb - don't keep anything over one size up or one size down…except on the one size up it has to be something that at least hangs on me properly. I am also just downsizing my wardrobe with the "reverse hanger trick"…. every week I find something in my closet I determine I can live without. It goes in a pile for giveaway that week.
All the 14's and 12's are now gone (donations and gifts to friends) save three really nice blazers and two dresses I am having tailored in September. I have read several books and blogs on the "minimalist wardrobe" and I will be doing the challenge where I pick 33 pieces to wear for 3 months beginning September 1. Pretty hard in Texas with the wild weather swings from day to day, but I am going to give it a go.
The really big thing I learned with this weight loss --- I don't ever want to be outside of a 5 pound range up or down of my current weight … I just feel so much better and am back to enjoying doing what I do. And I want a wardrobe of a few really nice pieces rather than a bunch of no so nice. Don't get me wrong, I am a bargain hunter and never pay full retail for clothing - I shop the sales and wait for once a year sales on even bras…. but I really think maintaining my health will reduce the need for a huge quantity of garments0 -
If no one has suggested it so far, I would recommend calling your local domestic violence agency and finding out if they can use some nice work clothes. If they have a shelter, they often have women who come in with nothing, and nice clothes to go to job interviews in are beyond the means of many. It would be a fantastic use for your old clothes. I'm of the opinion that if you keep those clothes around, the easier it will be to regain weight, since you have room to grow. If you don't have any fat clothes, it makes the financial penalty for weight gain much more significant, which can be an incentive to nip a five pound gain in the bud.0

Perhaps keep the size 8, but donate or sell the others !!! ( you could always have the few items that you kept tailored )
I've gone 1 size down, & donated them to our local thrift store .At first I was concerned that I may gain the weight back, however, decided it was best to think positive and make room for new ones as I continue to loose.
It's tough to find cute clothes in the larger sizes, you'll be helping someone else out!!! ( gave me a good feeling!! )0 -
Get them on ebay or Gumtree, put the money towards your new wardrobe!!!I have lost over 30 pounds so far and would like to lose 10 more. I have TONS of size 8 to 12 clothes in my closet. I am now a size 6-8. I want to go through my closet and weed out the old but I am not sure what to do with it. I am a teacher and I have so many great work clothes. I have spent a lot on those clothes and I will probably fit in those sizes someday as I get older. Am I making excuses? Should I really toss all those great clothes?0
-
I would donate the 2 largest sizes or donate to a friend who is in them now. I started in a TIGHT 14 and now wear a tight 10. Old clothes going out to help with incentive lol0
-
The only reason to keep fat clothes is you plan on getting fat again.
Oh well.....:drinker:0 -
sell them on ebay and use the money to buy new clothes that fit!0
-
I just got rid of all of mine. I gave them to two friends who needed them. When I lost weight the last time, I kept them. This time I am getting rid of all of them.0

Pick your favorites that you dont want to live without, find a taylor and have them altered to your new size. Donate the rest and enjoy building your new closet for your new body.
This is a wonderful idea!!! Since you are not severly under the sizes of the clothes, a tailor can take them in and you can wear them again! Congrats on the weight loss!0 -
I wish there was some kind of 'swap shop' for people loosing weight, you know for those intermediate dress sizes before you reach your goal weight.0
-
I gave all mine away when I lost weight before and the only reason I need them now is because I let myself go when I got Preggers and after. I will keep them this time, ONLY because I am looking to have another baby after I get my body healthy again but that is the ONLY reason! IF it werent for that, I would chuck them all again!!!0
-
I would donate the clothes. You need
to mentally make the commitment of never
being that size again.0 -
Donate!0

That would be great, those are the hardest sizes to find. And unlike some thrift stores, there would need to be a dressing room, darn it! I don't get some of these stores that expect you to go in, eyeball the clothes, and walk out with them.0 -
I'm going to go thru my closet this weekend. I plan on keeping one pair of jeans and one shirt(that I wore often). Just for a before and after pic or reference. The rest are going to a shelter or trash. I say get rid of them.0

I cut all the sleeves off of my old shirts and wear them for Ultimate/Football/Band and use the sleeves as headbands to catch the sweat while I'm working ^_^0

Before kids I was a 4, afterwards a 12, now a 4 again. So i a large range of sizes. I was originally keeping them all as I spent alot of money on those clothes but decided if I am ever that size again due to age/health I will probably not like those clothes as it will probably be when I am a lot older. So i got rid of the 8's, 10's, & 12's. I only kept a couple all time favorite outfits. I did keep the 6's though. I am a girl after all and us girls get bloated (I gain about 8lbs of water wgt for 1wk a month, that can make your clothes tight!!) certain times of the month that way I still have something that wont be tight to wear for that week if I need it. LOL!!!0

I was ever-so-grateful that my Sister-in-Law saved hers when she lost weight - I benefited completely not having to buy new wardrobes when I lost weight. That being said: No one was in a weight loss journey when I was getting rid of clothes, I saved them to look at (In a pile in my room) as a "Don't go back there" visual for a loooooong time - then I gave them to charity. It was very freeing! However, I kinda wish I saved the best pieces and took them to be altered... which is exactly what I am doing with a few of my new pieces of clothes that are already too big - again!!!0

THAT. Is a REALLY good idea!0 -
I'd like to take some of my clothes to a tailor and have them altered... the rest are going to charity.0

There are places out there giving clothes to those who start new jobs but don't have the money to purchase new clothing in order to start work. Plus think about giving to your local womans shelter, some woman have to leave with only the clothing on their backs. These types of organizations really appreciate the clothing.0
-
I got rid of all mine. I felt by keeping them was giving me permission to gain it back and I refuse to do that!0
-
Toss 'em! Or give them to a fat friend. :-) I actually gave a lot of mine to a friend that really needed them. It made me feel good to help someone I know.0
-
I suggest option 3: Make a quilt0
-
Donate them to Dress for Success or some other organization that provides professional clothes for underprivelaged women. That way your body and your heart and healthier0
