PSA: Muscles do not weigh more than fat.

fat doesn't do anything but sit there and look ugly.
Wrong. The purpose of adipose tissue is to provide insulation from heat and cold and also to provide padding and protection for various organs.
You said Adipose. All i can think of now is Doctor Who.0 -
a pound is a pound is a pound no matter how you weigh it.
That's not true. On some scales it will weigh 0.453592 kg.0 -

Just reposting this because it's right.I think you know what people mean when they say it.
I don't see what's wrong about saying "muscle weighs more than fat" ... if you take a blob of fat and then take a blob of muscle of the same size, the muscle will weigh more. I wish people would stop nit picking everything that is said on here.0 -
Either way, the solution is obvious:
Eat 1200 daily calories.
The only question remaining is, what is the effect of eating back all, some, or none of my exercise calories?
I would be starving if I only ate 1200 calories! Seriously...
You'd be surprised what you can live with. I eat less than that because I am full before I hit 1200.
also, I'd rather have 1 lb of muscle over 1 lb of fat any day, thank you!:happy:0 -

Um, a pound of MUSCLE does weigh MORE than a pound of FAT.
If you put a pound of fat and a pound of muscle in water, only the muscle is going to sink because it's HEAVIER.
It's simple psychics, asimov's second law of motion. duh.
christ on a cracker
it sinks due to density, not weight.
I think it was a joke....right?0 -

Actually, something floats or sinks based on how much water is displaced. If the object has greater mass than the water it displaces it sink. It it doesn't it floats. So really, it has more to do with shape than density. If you are going to be insulting and pretend you are smarter than someone make sure you are correct.
ACTUALLY actually...
What you've described - mass per volume - is EXACTLY density.
Smarter is as smarter does.0 -

By this logic there is no difference between a feather and a pile of poop.
1lb of feathers = 1lb of poop. If you want to compare weight.
To make it simpler for everyone:
1lb of anything weighs the exact same as 1lb of anything else.
Any further questions?
This is not true. 1lb of Gold (and most precious metal) weighs LESS than 1lb of other substances. Now the question is why
Because precious metals are measured in Troy Ounces!
Of course all these arguments are moot if we are in space. Then everything weighs the same and we have to start going by mass!0 -

This! This! And this again!!!!!!!!0 -
If I weighed 200lbs of just fat, I'd be uglier than if I weighed 200lbs of muscle.
Fat weighs more on the superficial scale.0 -

I LOVE THIS TOPIC!
Here are some articles I found...

http://www.3fatchicks.com/does-muscle-weigh-more-than-fat/
http://www.everydayhealth.com/weight/busting-the-muscle-weighs-more-than-fat-myth.aspx
interesting... i did find one blog "ranting" about how all the trainers are wrong about muscle NOT weighing more. I see the logic on both sides. This is not an easy thing to understand. Muscle is more dense, meaning the degree of compactness is smaller than fat's. So, essentially, you may not lose the lbs, but you'll look good once you lose fat and gain muscle! I say, whatever makes you feel better about losing weight or gaining the weight... go for it... but please stay healthy!0 -

PSA: Good news! I do not weigh more than I did when I graduated from high school!
1 pound of me now weighs exactly as much as 1 pound of me weighed when I graduated from high school!
(IMHO, when you don't define your units, the statements "x weighs more than y" and "x does not weigh more than y" are BOTH meaningless. It's like saying "The distance from here to Rome is not 1,000.")0 -
Honestly... I'd rather have 1 lb. of chocolate than either.0
