No single food item is responsible for weight gain.
Yup! Totally agree!!
really you girls never heard of ummm cakes or sugar or chockys?!!! lol   :laugh:0 -
I'm a big fan of proatmeal. Regular oatmeal with a scoop of your favorite protein powder flavor.
Good idea! DUH! haha0 -
I eat it raw with almond milk and berries few times a week. Good and good for you. Its also filling, which can help with weight loss.0
-
I love it. Don't eat it as much as I wish, because it takes a little more time to make than I have before running out the door to work in the AM, but when I do make it, I always add cinnamon, brown sugar or honey, and some kind of fruit (raisins, apples, berries.) I also find I like it best if I add just a sprinkle of salt.0

I have had 3 cups of original Quaker oatmeal through out every day for the last 6 months and it has helped me greatly in muscle mass and fat loss. It's an incredible food!0
-
Also if you like mustard the perfect meal is 1 cup uncooked oatmeal 1 cup frozen mixed veggies 2 whole eggs and 2tbsp flax then just add mustard and mix it all together. I eat this 3 times a day with 3 other smaller meals for my 2800 cal diet I have gained about 4lbs lean muscle and lost 6% body fat. Give this a try and let me know what you think. It has benefitted me greatly0

Oatz and Squatz make you win at life.0

150 calories in a half-cup of rolled, with some cinnamon and blueberries, and some protein to go along with it (eggs, egg whites, whatever). Filled up for hours, cleans out the gunk in my stomach, fuels long runs. Can't complain.0

1/2 cup dry oatmeal with cinnamon and splenda, 1 tbsp peanut butter, 1 banana, and 40 grams whey protein ... quick easy and tasty breakfast. Enjoy it almost every morning0
-
I eat steal cut oats. It gives me iron which I lack allot. And it gives me carbs when I need the fuel. Gotta love oatmeal.
"good" vs "bad" it depends on what your body needs and the rest of what you've eatten. Personally,, I stay away from the fake oatmeal (quick oat sugar packets) as I don't really get anything I need out of it and I'm not a superfan of the taste.0 -
i eat oatmeal every day.
ditto. about to have some right now actually0 -
oatmeal is awesome for you. I make homemade protein bars mixing oatmeal with whey, honey, flax seed0
-
Oatmeal is amazing just stick to steel cut none of the instant stuff,
Add natural PB, nuts, fruit, protein powder, whatever. Will fill you up wonderfully.0 -

NICE POST and I concur. Love the oats....Love the Protein Shake....and LOVE the Coffee!!!!!0 -
Original Quaker oatmeal with some fruit in natural yogurt - an instant and delicious breakfast! I eat it regularly!0

Anyone who says that oatmeal is bad for you can kiss my 20lbs-lighter-thanks-to-oatmeal *kitten*. I eat it almost daily and I lost weight no problem. It's packed with fiber, nutrition, and good carbs. Not to mention its super filling and very versatile. I like to keep around the pre flavored packets for quick breakfasts (yes, the one with sugar. A little sugar never hurt anyone and compared to most other breakfasts, the sugar count is very low) as well as a big can of quick oats. I love putting fruit, nuts, peanut butter, whey protein, etc in my oatmeal. I make a lot of baked oatmeal and stuff too. It's seriously a magic food and if you're avoiding it because it's "bad for you" you're missing out.0

I guess it depends how much weight you have to lose and how quickly.
I wanted to shed over 30kg in one year, so when I got to the 15kg mark and was on a plateau, I cut out my morning porridge, dairy and white carbs such as pasta, potato, white rice and bread. I have lost weight consistently since then and feel cleaner and lighter for it. No longer do I feel "bloated" of a day )
Oatmeal isn't "unhealthy" as such, just be sure to eat it in the morning hours and ensure you have at least 30 mins of light cardio during that day. Try drinking a coffee or tea (sugarless, sans dairy) at the same time to kickstart the metabolism.0 -
I love oatmeal. I was told by my dietitian to eat my oatmeal with equal about of protein so I add protein powder or Greek yogurt to my oatmeal.0
-
i eat oatmeal every day.
Me too.
Same and I've lost 6 lbs in the last month.0 -
Irish oatmeal!0

Here's some good info..

I'm a big fan of proatmeal. Regular oatmeal with a scoop of your favorite protein powder flavor.
I second this. Also love adding almonds or pecan slices to oatmeal and some fruit (berries or banana are my favorites)0 -
Eat 1/2 cup oatmeal, banana, 2 cups of coffee......thats my normal breakfast Monday - Friday.0
-
I eat it every single day and I hit my goal months ago. I do 1/2 cup rolled oats, 1 cut up mango, 1/8th cup walnuts, 1 tbls ground flax, and a sprinkle of cinnamon. If I am out of mangos I use an apple. (I'm eating some right now, actually. LOL)
I personally wouldn't touch the sugar free packet kind though. Ick.0 -
I eat overnight oats every morning OM NOM0

I've been considering adding oatmeal to my diet in the morning as part of my weight training meal plans. If I do, I'd definitely be adding some whey protein isolate in there along with skim milk for flavor.
The only thing that bothers me is several articles I've been reading about whole grains and such being bad for you, and that one should limit them to 1 day per week if you have to eat them at all. The reasons given are generally that we, as a species, have not evolved to the point where we can easily digest whole grains and the like. As another poster in this thread pointed out, after dropping whole grain breads, pasta, etc. from her diet, she was able to break out of her weight loss plateau.
I guess I'm just wondering what you all feel about this since I would like to have another go to breakfast food aside from eggs that I can easily make quickly in the morning, but I don't want to put anything in my body consistently that will be bad for it in the long run. I can certainly say that, seeing as I live and work in Japan, having a great carb like oatmeal would be extremely beneficial since veggies are so expensive, as are fruits, and so I generally reserve those for dinner time.
Anyway, all opinions are welcome and appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to sound off.0 -
i dont care if its good or bad .. I hate oatmeal and i never eat it, just the consistency makes me :sick:0

Some people have genuine, diagnosed metabolic issues with certain foods. I don't deny that. If you're one of them, cutting out grains or gluten or whatever ails you is a legitimate concern. Barring such issues, I think it's utterly ridiculous to completely exclude any food or food group from your diet.
As far as the original topic: I like oatmeal. I don't eat it for breakfast often because protein is the first macronutrient I try to fulfill every day, so my breakfast usually consists of something based upon eggs or egg whites - but I do occasionally have a bowl of oatmeal (sometimes with whey protein mixed in).0
