I need a better grasp on the nutrition piece, too, sdereski. I just know, for the summer, I'm not going to let it all go by with lettuce leaves and baby carrots - life *is* too short!

I'm logging my calories, but mostly just to make sure I get my protein macro in....the rest I'm trying not to care (too much) about! I'll eat in moderation, and really try and pay attention to whether I'm actually hungry, or bored. But, otherwise, I'll let the summer take care of itself. Fall will be here soon enough, and that's when I can get back into really figuring out the calories in/calories out piece.

I will say that "my body as an experiment" is MUCH MORE FRUSTRATING in my 40's, than in any previous decade. And, with menopause in my 50's, I highly doubt that decade is gonna feel any LESS frustrating than right now. I think THAT is the hard part - the "frustration"....I mean, I can eat SUPERBLY clean, for days/weeks on end, and my weight doesn't budge. Then, I eat like a pig for 4 days and, all-of-a-sudden, my weight DROPS. I mean, COME ON - it makes NO SENSE!!

Despite soreness, I went ahead and lifted today....most of the exercises were upper-body and I just felt that I needed to push through the soreness and get to the other side.

Tomorrow is long-steady-state cardio. Sunday might be a full rest day. Monday, it's back to weights.

The weather is supposed to be GORGEOUS here, this weekend, and I CANNOT WAIT! Have a GREAT WEEKEND all of you 40+-ers!

    Good Morning Fit Forty Plusers

Hope everyone cools down in temps this week. Lucky me in the NEPA/poconos area we never even saw 90's. Humidity yes but never hit the high numbers.

I am on my way back down in weight after gaining back 10 pounds. I am 146.6 and my goal weight is 135. My lowest reach to my goal was 140 and I felt terrific at that weight, My height being 5'6". Stress plays horrible games with me so I get lost in eatting.

I havent exercised in the traditional ways this summer because I am caring for my mom who has to be moved around in a wheel chair alot and by working in my my garden; despite the heat, it is looking great and my tomatoes are sweet. I plan to start canning in August in hopes to have a nice pantry ready for winter.

Well I miss you guys. Has anyone heard from our founder??? Alf, thank you for keeping the forum going!!

I haven't heard from Alf, lately....but, she does check in when she can!

I'm still sore from my Friday lifting....I *REALLY* worked over my IT band and could hardly walk all weekend. I'm trying to decide if I should lift, today, or give it one more healing day and then get back at it, tomorrow. My lifting is *really* suffering this summer....I'm sore ALL THE TIME and end up only lifting 2 x per week, instead of 3.

    Bummer.

I had a great weekend....including LOTS of rest (not sleep, but rest).

Today, my back is kind of sore....maybe from the bad posture in all my "resting" positions??

Anyway, I might lift today...I might wait one more day. I'm committed to keeping my lifting to 2 x per week - my body just needs the recovery time in between. So, I really need to try and get a little more cardio in, I guess.

I didn't lift yesterday, so today I will! My 4th work-out in Stage 7, NROL4W. I slept well, last night....after a *very* busy day at the office. I hope today isn't quite so "demanding".

    Hi all,
Have been on vacation and not checking the forums...sorry.
Successfully completed the Laugaveur. ultra marathon in Iceland. It was the toughest race I have ever taken part in. Still a little sore today but not too bad.
Am sitting on the plane getting ready for take off home. :)

That sounds VERY EXCITING, sdereski! An ultra marathon??? I hope you post LOTS MORE about this sort of adventure. Iceland - BEAUTIFUL! And, congrats on your "successful completion"....that is NO SMALL FEAT!

I just went for a 40-minute walk at lunch. That is all time would permit. The weather was glorious!

Hello, Just read through all the pages here and since I totally think I fit the bill (turned 47 in May and just celebrated my oldest son's 21st birthday with him a couple nights ago, along with the hubby, 12yr old son and 10yr old daughter ....) I thought I would introduce myself and maybe become a regular part of the cool kids club! I've never been a regular on a forum but Im pretty dedicated to MFP - joined in about February when I made the decision to make my health a priority!
I've never really had a weight problem, but I've always had an "I love food" problem. I totally ignored the warnings of "wait till you turn 30 and it catches up to you" cuz it didnt -heck, even 40 didnt really hurt! But at 45 I retired from a 26 year career as a police officer and I noticed that the next year and a half I spent just "being a mom" included an extra 25 pounds, frequent headaches, and many days on the couch with migraines!
I decided to join Kosama and after the first 8 week session I had lost 15 pounds and 6 inches -and Im hooked. Even though its been years since I had actually done any organized exercise programs, I suffered through the first days (without the need for the ambulance I swore they would need on standby!) and now I'm sad if I miss a day....
So that's me - and I probably dont need to find another way to spend all the "extra " time I have in my day but Id like to pop in once in a while and hang out with you cool kids!!!!

I have a B-U-S-Y day, today, but hope to get outside for a walk at the lunch-hour. Getting my hair done tonight after work. And then, tomorrow am off for a weekend away (with various family for various family functions). I'd better get my lifting in on Friday, too!

    Hey all!

Am home again. Yay!!! Was a long trip home. Flights out of Boston were cancelled and ended up spending the night in the airport, as there was not a hotel room to be had in Boston. Arrived in Canada yesterday at around 1 p.m. Our youngest son and his girlfriend met us with wonderful news - they got engaged! No wedding date set yet, but they did assure us it will be within a year. We were all so happy - we all cried for joy. :blushing:

Beeps, I plan to write a blog about the ultra run. It was the toughest, most challenging thing I have ever taken part in. Most of the race participants (301) were Icelandic - and they find it challenging. They are also impressed when first time foreigners complete it. There were 2 timed checked points, which we met.

I also bought NROLFW - finally! Started reading it yesterday and look forward to starting.

Welcome dmc! :flowerforyou: What is Kosama? I've never heard of it. Whatever it is, sure sounds like it did you a world of good.

Well, back to logging and logging in tomorrow and to regular exercise. I think I am going to go for a bike ride. Have missed my bike this past while.

Blah! 103 degrees here today (and yes its very humid in Nebraska) so I had a lazy day with my daughter that included a 6 hour marathon of "Pretty Little Liars" -because she just discovered it! I did manage to make a yummy spinach/bacon/cheese tortellini salad for lunch but that's about the only healthy thing I did today. Good thing I spent over 4 hours walking at the Zoo yesterday!

Kosama is a brand name - fairly new corporation I guess, but its a body changing workout program thats based on muscle confusion ( alot like the insanity workouts i think) I work out 5 or 6 days a week and each day is different .... like Monday upper/lower body workout, Tuesday -Plyometrics, Wednesday -Kettlebells, Thursday- kickboxing etc. Then each week cycle is a little different from the others. The best part for me is that its like having a personal trainer, but in a group! Anyway, it works for me and I love it since I personally dont have the self-motivation to work out at home:ohwell: . They have website info and are expanding nationwide...

Im just getting over a stupid summer cold/sinus thing that had me out of commission most of last week but I'll be back at it Monday! (early in the morning-before it hits triple digits!)

    Have a great Sunday

    Hey all,

dmc - thanks for explaining Kosama. Yes, it does sound like the Beachbody workouts - with the muscle confusion type workouts. Glad you are enjoying them. I think it's a great concept.

Welcome gailashton, 3foldchord and 2muchsauce. :flowerforyou:

Went for a bike ride yesterday. Felt sooo good to be back on the bike. Rode for about 1hr 40min. had a great tail wind heading out and a nasty head wind on the way back....but that is normal. I sometime get carried away when I am headed out as it's such great riding, only to turn around and have to battle the winds back.

Dinner with friends last night. Ate WAY to much - all good stuff, but still too much! Got to keep in check today.
Hoping to get a little run in later this evening when it cools down some.

Hope you are all having a great day.

    Hey cool kids

Will be 44 next Sunday. Looking and feeling better than in my 20s.
  • Hi Everyone! Do you have room for 1 more??? I love the idea of this group. I will be 42 in Oct and have 3 kids, 7, 5 1/2 and almost 4 and I definitely do not feel my age. I need to stay fit and healthy to keep up with the little ones and still have energy for my GNO with my closest friends.

Anyway, I am 5'10", 158 lbs. and would LOVE to get to 140, which is my pre-marriage/kids weight. DH and I used to run marathons, etc... we did many cycles of BFL and I have been sporadic about working out since my oldest was born.

I'm back to Jillian Michael's tapes every day and I always see a difference after doing her tapes for a few weeks.

Anyway, looking forward to getting to know everybody. :)

Boy, I had a GREAT weekend. Packed chock full of different family functions, a museum trip, a baptism, and food, food, food! (and little sleep)

Am happy to be back at work....quite tired, but I'll make it through. And, the gym is CALLING MY NAME - I'll get there at lunch, for sure!

I'm so excited. The scale said I lost ten pounds. Now I really feel like this is going to work. I want to lose 20 more (total of 30) as a present to myself for my 45th in October. That's maybe half of what I need to lose, but I need a small, reachable goal to start. I'm loving my favorite piece of cardio equipment at the gym, the arc trainer. (It's like if a stair machine and an old Nordic Trak had a baby...)

You guys were talking about some workout to avoid letting the body get too used to one thing? How much of a problem is that? I do the arc thingy 2 times a week and a weight circuit, followed by cardio, usually my favorite, of course, three times a week. Is it ok just to switch to the stair machine sometimes? It's 108 today, so I'm staying inside. I can go out and rollerblade in October when it finally cools down around here, but I'm limited to indoor until then.

I finally got back to my work outs ( kickboxing yesterday, plyos today) even with my snot filled head...summer colds are the worst and I can't seem to shake this sinus thing Ive got but Im determined to workout this week cuz we leave for vacation saturday morning.
We'll be camping, kayak fishing, and swimming in Minnesota so I'll still get some exercise in but I doubt if I'll be logging in too much. At this point, Im most excited to get away from the triple digit weather and high humidity here in Nebraska!!!! Can you say heat wave -yikes - it's still 94 degrees out right now after 10:00pm!
Hope everybody is having a good week!

I *will* get out for a long walk over the lunch hour. Period.
  • Nice post! I thought I was doing pretty well on the "cool side"! I turned 48, had lost about 35 lbs with MFP, started running and signed up for my first 5k for a run here in Sept. Previous to that I quit my job and went back to school full time. But I just had a total hysterectomy (the works!) and have not been able to do a thing for 4 weeks now. I am so worried that I will gain the weight back and lose all my endurance. I was so concerned that in my mind I was counting calories for the short period of time I was in the hospital!! and all I was given was a tiny muffin and some cereal :)

I am sticking to about 1500 cal per day and trying to walk at least 1 to 2 km about 5 times a week. I guess time will tell! If there are any positive and "cool" post-hyster. stories out there I would love to hear them

yes!! I did get out for a (brief) walk at lunch. I will hit the gym tomorrow. I hope to be 100% back-on-track by the weekend. (Summer is always a *bit* tougher to get done ALL of the things I want to do!)
