Okay I don't rant alot but this has really been bothering me.... so here goes!

I joined MFP as a way to track my calories and meet a few like minded people who share my struggles. I did not join MFP to hear the opinions of people who think their way of doing things is the only right way and every other way it worthless. We are all supposed to be adults here. Whenever I go on the forums I try to refrain from commenting on a lot of posts because I have been ripped to shreds and I have seen other people ripped to shreds.

Listen, just because one method of weight loss works for you doesn't mean it will work for everybody. If you think taking protein shakes and lifting weights 4 hours a day is the way to go... more power to you. If you think a strict vegan diet and yoga is the magic formula then by all means, have at it. Whatever your method or philosopy, understand that that is what works for you and your lifestyle. These forums are supposed to be for support and motivation and sometimes I feel like there are a lot of BULLIES on here, who try to shove their opinions down everyone's throat.

There are many roads that lead to weight loss and we are all on our own journeys, I think there should be more of a focus on sharing our struggles, frustrations, triumphs, success, helpful tips...etc, than trying to force someone to choose your road.

:( Sorry you've run into such bad mojo on MFP. There will always be people (on MFP and elsewhere) who think it's their way or the highway.

Find what works best for you and work hard at it. Best of luck!

This is precisely the issue. There is no magic formula, and the 2 example above are certainly not "good advice", if I saw somebody post that in earnest, I would be compelled to respond and discourage the poster (and anyone else who may be reading) from doing that. That's not bullying or being negative, but sometimes on this website, people interpret it that way.

I have no problem with opinions, it is the way they are presented.

MFP is one big argument half of the time...lol

I 100% agree with you, and that's one of the many reasons why the ONLY reason I'm still on MFP, is because the food and exercise tracker has helped me a lot so far.

I agree with your rant. I don't give a damn what everyone else is doing to lose fat, I'm going to do what works for me.

While I agree that there are some people here who think "it's my way or the highway", many are very helpful.

It's the webernet and people will post what they are thinking without caring how it's coming across to others.

Gotta thicken up the skin, and let it roll off - ignore people who come across as bullies.

You know what works for you and you should keep doing that :floweforyou:

Opinions are like assho|es - Everyone has one, and we all think our own is the best.

Coolest part? You don't have to listen to the opinions of people who have done amazing things with their weight loss, strength gains, and feats of badassery if you don't want to.

By the way, there is a method that works for everyone. It's called burning more calories than you consume.

The forums are not just for motivation and support. They are also for information. When people post things that are not simply a matter of opinion, but rather, totally incorrect, there is nothing wrong with pointing that out.

Can people do this in a gentle way? Of course. Do they always? No. I have found, however, that people don't take kindly to being corrected, and will often get angry and defensive.

Please don't think of this as bullying. I just want to get something across.

Someone trying some diet routine doesn't automatically mean it's healthy and a good idea. Just because someone tries something doesn't mean it's good for them. There are tons of ineffective and downright dangerous diets out there. Maybe you really love HGC, maybe you know people who've done it and lost weight. That still doesn't make it healthy. 500 calories a day is never a good idea.

Instead of focusing on someone's perceived tone try to listen to what they're saying. There's a lot of great advice that gets ignored here because people only want to hear what they want to hear. That's not helping anyone.

If everything any one wanted to do worked none of us would have been heavy to begin with. Follow the advice of successful people. That's how you achieve success. But if you just want everyone to tell you how great you're doing just look in a mirror and tell yourself you're the most special snowflake in the world.

I agree with this too...Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and no one should be bashed for sharing that opinion...It really doesn't need to lead to arguments on here....If someone is asking for advice, let us give advice like they asked and whatever the OP at that time decides to do is his/her decision and all the negativity doesn't help the OP decide...Most of the time the whole question that the OP was trying to ask gets overshadowed by arguing and negative comments...:explode:

This is just another form of bullying. You're trying to make everyone else cater to the way YOU want it. Some people genuinely come from a place of knowledge with the intent on truly helping others. THAT is what this is supposed to be about. Not a bunch of people claiming that there is no "right" way. There are plenty of right ways, but not choosing a right way is the same as choosing a wrong way, and encouraging others or enabling others to do the same is crazy. Just because some people can't accept hard truths doesn't make those handing out said truths bullies.

The irony here is that most of the people I see who get called out for "bullying" are trying to refute opinions with rational discourse. But that's my personal observation. Your mileage may vary.

Yeah, the best thing to do is refrain from posting your opinions on MFP as the food police will tear anyone apart that disagrees with them. :(

I understand the frustration you feel. It can be difficult reading the forums without emotion. Consider we are all here with a shared motivation and are like minded individuals. Each supported soul will elaborate on what works for them. It's a choice in how one reads the thread. That being said, I'm not dismissing your comments as they are quite relevant and shared by many.

Today is a day we all share a path! The path each person chooses may be a different color but the end result and location is similar. Healthy living for life! Here we come!
