Called fat by a stranger.

So, today while I was getting my walk in in the park, these 2 young kids (about 12yrs) were messing around with their bike in the middle of the sidewalk...I didn't think anything of it until I passed them and the one said "fat *****!" Now, I wasn't sure If I heard him right so I ignored him and kept walking. So he yelled it louder. I turned around and said "excuse me, what did you say?" Of course, He couldn't call me a fat ***** to my face because all he could say was "I didn't say nothin' homie" So i kept asking him (using vulgar language) "go on, tell me what the **** you said!" "oh i didn't say nothin homie"...his friend was just kinda standing there not saying anything...If he was not 12 I would have slapped him! I know I shouldn't be using cuss words around children but If he can call me a fat ***** then obviously he can handle the f word and plus i was so pissed words were just coming out of my mouth. I just ended up telling him to **** off...

Seriously...I can't stand how kids are these days! That really hurts. And obviously I'm walking in the park for a reason...not sitting on my *kitten* eating cake. This is the reason why I don't want to have kids...they're so evil now a days...I never even got called fat in middle/high school (in ear shot at least) things have changed and it's really messed up. I wish his mamma woulda heard that! lol....have any of you ever been called fat to your face by a complete stranger?

I completely here you there 'lette. It's a struggle for all of us. I can tell you that the problem is not the kids but their parents. Too many "Best Friends" and not enough discipline at home! Just vent to your MFP "Family" We all understand where you're coming from.

You won't be able to change what others say. At least in the U.S. people are given Freedom of Speech. Not always the blessing it should be. All you can do is call them on it, like you did. But, they're 12. Not the fount o' wisdom, 12 year olds.

You don't worry about what others might say about you either in front of you or behind your back.............your doing the right thing so F them. Most likely they have to say something bad about someone else because they need to feel better about themselves somehow. You can do this........you are worth it hun :))))

I rejected a guy at a club once, and he randomly called me a fat b*tch. I guess he was mad I refused to dance with him. It really stung and ruined the rest of the night! How was I supposed to shake my stuff if I was feeling that unconfident!?

People are rude. People are mean. But most people aren't making a positive life change like we are. Just keep pushing forward and keep your head held high!

Just tell him that you can't fix stupid. I have been called fat so many times to my face that I have lost count. It's gotten to the point when someone calls me fat I just say," really? Is that the best insult you can come up with?! Your parents were brother and sister, weren't they?"
  • That is appalling. Well, I guarantee you that those kids do not get guidance at home and are probably very insecure, thus have to lash out at others. That's nearly always the case with these bully types....pity them for not having confidence and drive that you do. :)

Im sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately his/her parents probably arent any better or theyd have taught the brat how to respect elders and be nice.

I see it a lot where I work with the "younger" group. Even in the work place they sling the F word and icky as it is...the "C" word. Like they think no one else can hear or something. Its disgusting. I swear Id pop my own kids or grandsons in the mouth if I caught em talking like that to someone. (My kids arent little either, not at 28, 30 and 32)

PLEASE know that you are worth more than what others think or say. It really isnt any of our business what others think about us.

Stand strong and KNOW in your heart that YOU ARE WORTHY

What matters most is how you feel about yourself. Do not let this discourage you. It's sad, these kids probably get teased themselves and feel it necessary to do the same to others. What they don't realize is what goes around comes around.

Either that or they were trying to show off to their friends, and if there mother heard them say that she would have slapped the *kitten* out of them. I know that I would have if those punks were my kids.

Ignoring these kids is the best idea and remember they are kids, cursing back at them only affirms to them that cursing is okay. You're the adult, showing a better example is important, even if you're furious.

    Hahaha that's a good one.....

Such a rude boy.... At the age of 12, I'd expect some sensibility.... It's good that you confronted him.... Hope you're feeling better...,
  • I agree with everyone! Some people are just Rude! I agree with you also, kids these days have little to no respect whatsoever!
He didn't have the right to say that. All you were doing was walking by in the park.
Some kids like to show-off by being mean and hurtful. They don't understand or care about how it makes others feel.

I once went swimming in a lake, and a kid shouted out "Look at that hibbo out there!" and I was crushed...
There was also one time I went to a gym with my older sister ( who has been thin her whole life)
and she invited me, just to try it out. Anyways. I went to get on a treadmil and a teen girl shouted out "Omg! Look at that fat cow!" and then started laughing with her friends...

People are going to be rude and judgemental. But I just look at it this way. I'm working on making myself better and healthier for me. To feel good about myself.. Not them.
I remember a quote from a movie, that has helped me so much!
"Just view hateful rude people as "Sandpaper." Sure, they may rub you the wrong way...But remember this.. In time, you become smoothed and polished, and the sandpaper old and worn out and ugly."

i did get called fat once in france because i didnt give some homeless guy money.

unluckily for him, my french is really good and i had no problems with reminding the guy of how much of a loser he was to resort to begging on the streets. i pretty much reduced the guy to tears and went about my business.

that's really the only time that's happened to me. it's very rare that people say out of pocket stuff to me in general, but when it happens i relish in the chance to unleash the verbal krakken

    This is the winning answer!

OP, sorry for the insult. You know what, those kids will call the next person who comes along something else derogatory. Do no let people like that ruin your day, it gives them power over you.

It sucks but it's usually the way they are brought up or even their home life that makes them that way (and some kids are just plain bratty lol). I know that hurts though! Hopefully they grow out of their ignorance.

Im so sorry this happened to you! My mother in law calls me a "fat cow" all the time... I just take it from where its coming from. Yeah they were buttholes for saying it, I would feel more sorry for them because their parents obviously dont care about them.

Keep your chin up girl! You are 23lbs into this, and thats no easy feat!! Good job on how far you have come, and use this as ammo the next time you dont feel like working out or want to eat badly!

Seriously injure them, and they won't say it again.

I can't even imagine kids saying that. I can't. But, obviously there are people out there who have no respect for others. I look up to anyone who is trying to accomplish their goals, and are trying their hardest to get there. If those kids don't understand that concept then one day they will have a rude awakening themselves once they have to work for something. Don't let anyone stop you from reaching your goal(:

The same thing happened to me when I was 14. My sister and I were walking to the store and two very cute boys in a nice car yelled out to me "hey dont even look at me you fat pig!" It is still something that stings. I wish I would of stood up for myself like you did. I still get nervous everytime I see teenaged boys and Im 26! Im proud of you!

I dont think I've ever been called fat by a stranger. When I was in high school a girl I knew asked me if I was pregnant, cuz I carry my weight in my belly,. That hurt.
But it really makes me mad to kno that they're kids callin u tht. I'd b ashamed if my kids spoke like tht (well when I have kids). But mine WONT. I'll raise them better. Their parents prob aren't that great either. I can't STAND ppl like tht! Just ignore them. One day they'll say tht to the wrong person who doesn't have the self control and sum1 will haul off and hit them and they'll deserve it.

Well, this happened many moons ago when I was in my early 20's. I had fallen down some stairs and shattered my kneecap. My mum took me to the hospital ER and after being examined and x-rayed, I was waiting for a doctor to come in to cast my leg. When he finally made it, he had several interns in tow and as I lay there helpless, he said the following words to his assembled crew:

"I am going to show you how to apply a cast to a cone shaped leg."

    A CONE SHAPED LEG????? :embarassed:

My mum actually snorted and the doctor had the decency to turn a bit red in the face. I made up my mind then and there that no one would ever again say I had a cone shaped leg.

(When the cast came off, I took a good look at it....and sure enough, it was a cone! I took it home, painted it a bright orange, and made a traffic cone out of it. Someone eventually stole it.)

that is really horrible, but i don't think it's just kids. for instance, i used to work in a club - a guy there once called me a "big fat stupid c***" - so i cried. another time while walking to work a guy leaning out his window playing guitar stopped and went "that song was for you, it's called 'you're chubby'". i've also had complete strangers (men at least 10 years older than me) walk behind me on a night out, talking about how hideous and fat i am and eventually pushing me into a wall. not to mention what my own mother has said to me... like, i know i'm fat! do you really need to constantly point it out to me? i don't comment on anyone else's weight, ESPECIALLY not strangers. it's like when you're fat you're no longer seen as a human, and people feel they have the right to treat you unbelievably disrespectfully.

I think people only do this to make themselves feel better. I know it hurts, but in the end we are improving ourselves. And they are still left with the hole inside that makes them incomplete. And it's not just children, I have had family feel free to share with me this shortcoming of mine. It really is just to build themselves up and in the end they lose. =)
