C25K with kids?
I did C25K a few years ago. Haven't ran much for the past few years and gained more weight. Anyways it's always been my goal to get back to running but became hard after my divorce and having a small child with no income to purchase a good jogger or gym membership, stress of trying to start a career, and school, etc. I…

I'm still running....first 5K on Saturday
Hi all! I haven't been on this board for a while, but I am still running. I'm still not very fast, but I'm getting better. When I graduated from C25K in April, it took me 65 minutes to complete a 5K. I have now done it several times around 55 minutes. Last Saturday, on my final full practice run (outside, on pavement) I…

I think its time to start over
So after struggling with week 5 for weeks and pretty much stopping all together in the last week I've decided its time to start over & do it outside this time. I've been having a few different issues lately, adjusting to new puffers for my breathing problems and the heat (its been in the high 80s or above for the last 2…

Entering 1st and 2nd 5Ks 3 weeks apart?
I'm currently in the middle of week 7 of C25K. I've been looking at entering a 5K this Fall when it gets a bit cooler. There is a nice one on a relatively level mostly paved area, just 2.5 miles from my parents' house, so I could visit them that weekend too. Three weeks later there is another 5K that allows dogs (i.e. has…

Music?
I know many people like to listen to music while they run. What are some of your favorite songs to run to?

Okay so I did W5D2 yesterday and I did struggle with the second 8mins I stopped for 10seconds at about the 5min mark then ran again (this is the first time during the whole programme I have stopped before the end of an interval. Should I repeat or believe I can do double that in one stint.. Ahhh xox

does it ever get easy?
just finished w8d2 (jogging for 28 minutes). while i have definitely improved endurance and have successfully completed all the weeks on time, (with the exception of w5d3 which took me a couple of tries), i feel like its always a struggle toward the end. i guess what im asking is when does this become "easy"? in your…

Training for a 5k, but don't want to do too much cardio...
Ok, so all the research I've done indicates that I need to focus on strength training and building muscle, and show only be doing minimal low intensity cardio. I'm whats known as "skinny fat"; technically I'm small, but I'm out of shape. I have a high body fat % and very little muscle. So they say when people like me focus…

Super Proud of my Results!
I did C25K starting 3/18/13 -- did the entire program then my first 5K was the very next day. My first race time was 33:54 and I was so proud of myself for finishing! This past weekend I did my second race and finished in 30:55! I shaved 3 minutes off my previous time. For a girl who used to weigh 399 pounds this is one of…

Looking for some ideas. c: I do the beginner body weight workout over on nerdfitness ( http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2009/12/09/beginner-body-weight-workout-burn-fat-build-muscle/ ) and ride my bike for a little bit. You?

Just started! *Hoping* to become a runner
Yay I completed the first day of the program today 100% successfully on the treadmill. Man it was hard for me. I am SO out of shape it's a little pathetic! My son is 3.5 months old, so I'm well overdue to be getting back in shape, but at least I started finally! If anyone is just starting or wants a new friend, add me. I…

Suggestions for my 5k?
Hey guys! I am new to the group, and was hoping ya'll could give me some advice on a few things. First of all, let me give you a quick running history. I am 33 years old and I love to get out and go for a slow jog. Let me be really honest, I mean really slow...like between a 10 and 11 minute mile on the track! Anyhow, I…

Shin Splints
Needing some advice I was on my way to completing week 6 day 3. All of a sudden I could not do it my right leg felt like it was going to collapse out from under me. After talking to one of my friends, who suggested that I might be having a problem shin splints. I have been walking for the last week; changed the insoles in…

Heart rate while doing C25K
I am on week 6 of C25K I've started around May ( One "week" can technically be 10 days for me because running is not my main cardio it's what I do on my "rest" days, I have never needed to repeat a day) I wear my HRM while running and I get an average of around 130 for my workout. It seems incredibly low since I'm over 200…

Arrgg backwards results?
Ok so this might just end up being a rant. I started running with c25K in April and average 2-3 runs/week. There was a few weeks that I didn't run for a few days so my weeks never really worked out to be Sunday-Saturday. I've never been a runner but I started to like it a little more around week 5. I did a 5k race on June…

Learning to Run Farther Than Seemed Possible
The small stretch of road I've been running on for the last five years is ideal in lots of ways. It's not too flat, so it rarely gets boring. The hills are abrupt and brief and look much worse than they feel—good for bragging rights without breaking you in half. There are curves that draw you around each corner but none so…

Week 3 help!
I know I'm not super far into the program... but I completely blew week 3 day 2. Tried it yesterday, the temp was only 80... and I ran slow, but I didn't make it through the first 3 minute jog or the second 1.5 minute jog. Any advice? Back to the indoor track?? I want to be able to do this outside, but I just felt AWFUL.

Week 4
I started week 4 yesterday, and this is where it really gets hard for me. That second 5 min run? Killer! I did complete it, but I'm getting more and more nervous about the coming weeks. I also really haven't lost any weight, and that's getting discouraging :(

Advice on morning running prep?
Hi all, I would like to start running in the morning rather than the afternoon as it gets hot and humid by midday down here in the South. My normal routine for running has me eating something light and downing a cup of coffee and a few glasses of water about an hour before I head out. I'm unsure how to make the transition…

5K Results, I'm Pretty Fast!!!!
Well faster than I thought. I ran my first 5k since completing C25K this past Saturday. My time was 35.37. I'm so impressed with myself, especially since I did the run without music. My headphones died moments after I crossed the start line. It was definitely a mind over matter moment, because there was no power song to…

Read Anatomy for Runners
The book "Anatomy for Runners" is basic explanation for how we make physical gains and where injury comes from, and helps you analyze and fix any foundational form issues you might have. I highly recommend it if you have any questions about form, cross training, improving as a runner, avoiding injury or using minimal shoes.

How to Trick Your Brain and Push Through?
I'm stuck on W5D2. The best I've done was to complete the first 8-minute leg, and during the 2nd 8-minute leg I stopped 4 or 5 times. I was elated on that day and really pumped about moving forward, but the 2-3 times I've gone out since then I felt like the heat and/or humidity made my brain go "UH-UH, NO WAY". So, I've…

C25K with the Nike+ App for this "old man"
First, I want to say that I love these message boards and just recently stumbled upon them. I just finished up Week 4 this morning and have been feeling pretty good. I have peaked at Week 5 and know that it get a whole lot tougher now but I am up for the challenge. I started dieting and exercising at the first of the year…

My first 5k Race for Life! Woohoo
Had a blast at my first 5k today and raised some decent money for cancer research. What an amazing day! I smashed my previous stats at 31 mins 32 seconds, a hilly race (wow) and a few bottlenecks to negotiate! Wicked. Can't wait to do it again. But first my friends, a music festival to pack for! Life's good. Keep on…

Super dizzy after?
So I just did day one and I'm so happy! BUT I noticed I was super dizzy afterward. I have reactive hypoglycemia and hypotension but I have doctor clearance to do as much exercise as I like so I figured I wouldn't have a problem with it. I made sure to eat before my run, a piece of bread with peanut butter and banana on it…

Bad Runs
I had my very first "bad run" last night. So I thought I would create this thread for everyone to complain, and moan, and cry (like I felt like doing) when they experience a bad run. I was so pumped and ready to go last night for W7D1. I don't know what happened. I started getting so winded so early. I didn't feel like it…

So, I need advice.
Last Wednesday, as I began my W8D1, 15 minutes into it I tripped and fell. I haven’t ran since because I scrapped my knees pretty bad. Yesterday, I went for a walk, and my knee would buckle and tighten at the same time. Then I got to thinking that it was happening before my fall too, not as much, but every now at then.…
