Meat and shake free Protein?
Hi all, Wondered if anyone has any suggestions for a meat free 40/40/20. I am not keen on taking commercial protein shakes but happy to make my own. I live in the UK so am struggling to find tips with non-stateside ingredients. Any help appreciated

Good morning!!! :)
I was recently introduced to the "Good Morning" lift in my lifting class and thought I'd share it just in case others were unaware of it. It's a great addition to your routine if you're working to improve your glutes, hams, hip flexors, and back. You can do it seated or standing. You can find it on YouTube and here's a…

Me learning not to change programs
I've been doing Starting Strength for a few weeks now and I've really gotten into it. I wasn't really always doing it consistantly at first, and my gains weren't always very stable at first, but my experiences taught me a few key things that it (and New Rules of Lifting for Women) blatantly said, but that I didn't actually…

Equipment Questions
I have a few weight lifting equipment questions. I'm going to a new gym now and they have some different equipment. So I have heard many times you shouldn't curl in the squat rack. So... Where should you curl? What is the difference between the wavy bars and the straight bars? (the ones with weights already on them) and…

Love it when the numbers go up!
Added 20lbs to my squat today - so 65lb in total now, for around 6 reps before my form went downhill. Finally got the courage to ask one of the guys in the gym about benching, as I'm not 100% sure about form. He suggested starting with dumbbell bench, and showed me that - although I had to go get smaller dumbbells (12lbers…

New to lifting, got a few questions
Hi, I know I have heard about people losing inches from strength training and eating more but I guess I don't really understand how it is possible whilst eating more, can anyone shed some insight into that? I'm in recovery from purging type anorexia and I know the number on a scale doesn't define you. It doesn't mean your…

Olympic Lifts
This is mainly aimed at those who do the olympic lifts as well as ones such as squat/bench/deadlift/rows/OHP etc etc I want to get into these in the future, they look pretty damn awesome to perform! I'd like to get a trainer show me because they look quite hard, and my balance is crap! Until then, (I don't have the money…

GOMAD - Does it work?
I'm interested in putting on some weight - maybe 6-8 lbs. in a few more months and was wondering if any of you have ever tried using GOMAD as a method in trying to bulk? GOMAD=gallon of milk a day. I bulked last winter for 4 months and it was so hard to keep up with all the constant eating. I wanted to put ~20 lbs. on…

FYI: Jefit is a great lifting tracking ap.
Especially if you use it right. I'd been using it for 8 months by going into Logs from the main screen, but if you go into routines it's a much better interface. There's a free version that has ads, or a $5 version that has no ads and you can see progress charts (based on calculated 1 rep max) on your phone. I think you…

Feedback on "New Rules" and diet
Hi there, I apologize if there is already a board on this, but I was wondering if anyone you ladies have been following "The New Rules of Lifting for Women" program. Although I'm not new to lifting, I just started this program and I guess I'm kind of concerned about having increased my calorie intake. According to his…

Finding it hard to keep up` a strength routine
I'm training to run a half marathon, and I am having a hard time keeping a regular strength routine. I run 3 times during the week at a moderate distance, and once during the weekend for my long run (today was an 8 miler). My running feels a lot more natural when I add strength training, but I just can't seem to kick my…

Repost: Strength Training for Weight loss.
I've been meaning to read this article for a long time but finally just got around to it. http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/training/weight-training-for-fat-loss-part-1.html The basic goal of a diet: losing fat while maintaining (or at least minimizing the loss of) muscle mass. Basically it says that high-rep, low load…

Strength training every day versus every other?
I've been doing the weight machine part of the circuit at Planet Fitness, with the machines pretty much set up as high as I can manage and some strength training at home with dumbells or resistance bands. I'm not worried about that causing bulky muscles, I think you really have to work to get that, I just want to be a lot…

Another newbie (no advice needed, just squee)
I started doing Starting Strength (the variant that lets me postpone trying power cleans for now) about two weeks ago and I feel great. I'm not as consistant as I'd like yet, but I'm slowly getting strong and I like it. I had no idea how addictive it would be. I have to admit I'm still working out how many calories to eat…

Getting back into lifting--is this routine okay?
After a hiatus with being pregnant and mothering twins, I'm now getting back into lifting (which I love). However, a torn lateral meniscus and bad tendonitis in my wrist are somewhat hampering my lifts. I used to pyramid my lifts, but then I realized that I was probably doing close to 100 reps of some stuff in total. Now…

My forearms and wrists can't handle the weight!
Anyone else have this problem when holding dumbells or weighted bar? Specifically regular deadlifts and alternating lunges with dumbells in my hands. My wrists and forearms give out before my legs get even close. I've had this problem for years but my old trainer always avoided adding more weight or any exercise that put…

P90x--what size dumbells??
I'm about to order P90x (I'm finishing up Jillian Michaels Body Revolution and getting ready to start something new). I have done a bunch of research online but I can't find any info on how heavy of weights I should get. I currently have only 3, 5, and 8s. I'm pretty sure those will be too light, although they were fine…

Low carb or just high protein
Do you eat very low carb or just very high protein and count calories? I'm a week into low carb (under 100, most days around 50 per day). I just don't have ANY ENERGY!!! Barely able to work out! Wondering if I just need to give it more time or eat more carbs and have energy to spend more time in the gym. :) Your thoughts?…
