  • Agree, you must get your salt and even more fluid than on a lowfat diet. Keto rocks! I love this way of eating. I never have to be hungry. I can get something that works anywhere, even a convenience store. And I have finally slain the emotional eating beastie. I don't worry about measuring ketones. I am doing this for life…
  • I am 52 and perimenopausal. Three months ago I went lo carb and one month ago found a group on Facebook called Optimal Ketogenic Living and tweaked my protein/carb/fat grams and now I am feeling GREAT and losing a steady 1-2 lbs a week and sometimes, like this past week, a little more. It is completely different than how I…
  • Most gyms provide some type of intro session usually with a personal trainer. That could be a good place to start to get you into the gym with some ideas on initial workouts. I started at a gym in January and I took a clip board with me to make notes when I experimented with the machines and free weights. I did have a…
  • For me, I found I do better with protein at every meal and needed a higher goal that MFP defaults. I went in and changed my ratio to 45/25/30 Carb/Protein/Fat. I am not saying this is the best ratio for everyone. It is what works well for me right now. When I get closer to my weight goals, I will likely have to reduce the…
  • Just got an iPhone so bumping to keep up with the great suggestions. Really nice having the mobile MFP though I wouldn't want just that.
  • Just FYI, a postal scale works fine to weigh food. I like to keep stuff as simple as possible and it certainly seems to me that much in the database is cooked weight which is a LOT easier in most cases. For items like rice and pasta that absorb water, I use volume measurements (a cup, etc) rather than weight measurements.…
  • Here is a balanced detailed informative article: http://www.womentowomen.com/healthynutrition/vitamind.aspx It points out that you can take up to 2000IU a day without testing and not be in danger of too much. It also gives guidelines about how much sun exposure is needed. And in case it isn't obvious, it has to be exposure…
  • I started taking it about 2 weeks ago (Vitamin Shoppe brand with Chrondroitin and MSM) and I think I am having less pain in my knees. I am not a runner but I do walk my dog several miles a day and have been adding in some jogging spurts. I do some other weight training and cardio as well. I am 50 and have to be careful…
  • Hi, I am Karen and I just turned 50. I started getting back in shape and have lost 28 lbs in 90 days on MFP. Looking to up my exercise and the kettlebells sounded cool. I am now the proud owner of a 6kg Adler which actually may be too light but will do to get started. I am reading Pavel's ETK which has been helpful. I got…

  • Bone broth is a good source of calcium as well as other minerals: http://www.westonaprice.org/food-features/broth-is-beautiful http://heal-thyself.ning.com/profiles/blogs/bone-broth-is-wonderful-for
  • My opinion is that 30 minutes of cardio is going to be fine if it is as soon as you get up and you are eating afterwards. I, too, like to do my morning exercise on an empty stomach but I have to be careful I don't push it and then I am eating 2 to 3 hours after I get up - that is too long. If I am going to go to the gym to…
  • I use a postal scale and it works just fine. Not saying it is better, I happened to already have it and it weighs ounces, lbs and grams. I consider a scale of some kind to measure food to be essential.
  • We have had some deficiencies here but not had someone do 50,000 IU a week. Not saying it is bad but we were put on daily doses. I found 5000 IU drops that are super handy. And if you can hit a patch of sunlight for about 20 minutes, it can really help. I know that isn't easy in the winter.
  • Oh funny - didn't see your post before. I just got Sun Warrior Vanilla and love it so far.
  • See my post about Sun Warrior Protein. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/473447-vegan-protein-powder-find
  • I did the 30DS in January with a group. Honestly, I don't think I would do it daily if I did it again. I did take one rest day a week and felt like I really needed it. I think you could use it 3 to 4 days a week and get good benefits from it. It definitely helped my endurance though I am not a runner.
  • Received my order. I have used this powder in both a smoothie and by itself with almond milk. Like it both ways! I think it is a little cheaper on Amazon.
  • I use epsom or bath salts in my warm baths and it has helped some. I just go a foam roller to use but I haven't had really sore muscles since receiving it. Need to pick my pace back up some.
  • Ask at your gym what the off hours are, you might be surprised. And really, it will be okay! Just do it! Don't let fear or someone else keep you from your goals. Most people either won't care what you are doing or they will be happy to help. Really.
  • I love cauliflower and I love pizza so I can imagine liking this no matter how it turns out exactly. I have used pureed cauliflower in mashed potatoes and mac&cheese but never this - thanks!
  • I keep a water kefir culture going and consume some every day in my breakfast smoothie. The good bacterial count is very high and it is a lot cheaper than buying probiotics. Water kefir is quite tasty and easy for even children to drink. http://zoevblog.com/2010/03/17/what-is-water-kefir-and-how-to-make-it/
  • I am currently researching myself and I looked hard at the Ninja thinking YAY, something that would work for less. But after reading multiple reviews about how freaking sharp the blades are, I am not going to get it with children in the house (I don't have room to keep everything really separate. I am going to bite the…
  • Seems like there comes a point where something changes inside of you. I said all last year that I was going to start. I hadn't found MFP but I did a number of things off and on and managed to gain another 20 lbs. Lovely! then last November one day, something snapped and I determined to start. Funny thing was that it was a…
  • You have answered your own question which we so often do. Lifestyle change IS hard and there is no real shortcut to getting around the suckiness of the initial "stick to it until it becomes real" part. My best suggestion is to make some friends on here who are serious about their own lifestyle change so you can encourage…
  • Another option is to adjust your green smoothie recipe until it is more what you want. My breakfast smoothie generally has spinach, ground flax seed, frozen mixed berries and some kind of protein (egg, greek yogurt or protein powder). If I were concerned about the carbs, I would reduce the berries. Organic baby spinach has…
  • I make something similar to this. One of my go to snacks when I need a bit of sweet but also want it to be healthy. These look amazing.
  • Buy a new dog? I am typing this before heading out the door with my boxer who insists on his walks. It is motivating but of course you don't want to get a pet just for that. sorry that you don't have yours anymore. Come to think of it, I used to like the treadmill when I could talk to my best friend but after I lost her,…
  • Thanks, really needed this today after a week where I started lifting heavier and suffered a bump on the scale. No matter how much you know, it is still hard to swallow an apparent "gain." Love the visual and the links to the other threads.
  • Adding a yes, skin eruptions are a very common detox experience. Also the feeling dehydrated. Your body has to come to a new normal. Keep up the water intake like everyone says. Now, if you continue to feel really dehydrated after a couple of weeks, do get your blood or urine sugar level checked just in case (that can be a…
  • It is both for me. Snacks with significant amounts of protein do stay with me longer and, since I am doing some weight training, are part of my protocol to help my body repair itself. I have also found that it staves off sugar cravings and depression for me.
