  • I actually like both equally. There are pros and cons for each. But I developed an allergy to my contacts so now I'm stuck with glasses. That was 10 years ago, so I've considered going in for a contacts appointment to try them out again, even if it's just for special occasions, or when it really benefits me to have them. I…
  • This reminds me of one time my MIL (probably around an 18 US at the time) went into Victoria's Secret to buy something for her sister (a US 4 or so). She was looking through the racks when a saleswoman came up (unsolicited) and told her that they didn't carry anything in her size in store and she'd have to shop online. My…
  • Count me in with the people who weigh once a week, in the same conditions every week. Anything else that happens during the week is moot. At the same time, I do play around with the scale the rest of the time, and one big thing I've noticed, while I'll fluctuate a bit during the course of a day (most obviously around meal…
  • First, if you know you're going out to eat, check nutrition info and choose your food before you go. Second, like stfuriada said, skip appetizers, dessert, alcohol, and also any calorie laden soda/sweet tea/lemonade. Stick to unsweetened tea with splenda or water. My go to meal at places like that is actually a 6 oz. steak…
  • If you have the credits to spare, take an intro to business math, or similar class. You'll learn everything you need to know about interest rates. The key in real life: if you have to use a credit card, make sure you have a plan to pay it off in a reasonable amount of time. The lower the interest rate the better, the…
  • Today's workout is on a short trip to being cancelled by work and theater commitments. I'm going to try to squeeze one in tonight, late!
  • Most veggies, if I like them in any way, I like to eat raw and fresh. Sometimes with the sparest bit of dressing. I've been eating approximately a cup of broccoli, ten cherry tomatoes, and a dozen baby carrots with lunch lately, and for all of that use less than a tablespoon of dressing to dip. When you limit it to that…
  • Unscented anti-antiperspirant is another alternative to body glide. Cheaper, and just as effective.
  • MFP will calculate this for you, just change your activity level to sedentary.
  • I agree, unless you have a lot of very active side work (returns, extended cleaning, bagging, etc.). The extra work can get a lot more vigorous. But if you're just standing behind the register checking all day, lightly active is about right.
  • Congratulations!
  • I'm going to be a dissenting voice from the majority. Only because, if you try it and you like it, awesome! But if I had read this thread, and then tried it, I'd have felt betrayed. It probably does taste similar and good if you don't have recent real pepperoni exposure, or if you've been eating it so long you're used to…
  • Pizza is awesome! Pita pizza, tortilla pizza, and pizza bagels (made with fresh bagels from the bakery) are all good, but I also eat frozen pizza. A bit high in sodium, but the rest of my diet is pretty low sodium, so there's room for it.

  • Yup! These guys know what they're talking about! Also, for the sodium, I can't see your diary, but a lot of pre-packaged food is really high in sodium. Eating out also yields a lot of sodium. If you can make more foods from scratch, or look for "low sodium" versions, it really helps, and it honestly doesn't taste all that…
  • Vodka and grapefruit juice.
  • A friend of mine has a detailed knot work design across her upper arm, and she lost a significant amount of weight (her arms changed a lot)...the tattoo ended up looking better! It shrank proportionally, and got a teensy bit darker. It looks gorgeous.
  • Good call! This is why I always measure in line with my belly button. Even if it's not my smallest part, it's not going to move vertically from month to month.
  • Most veggie smoothie recipes I've seen also involve fruit, and it seems like the fruit IS the base.
  • I second gatorade or orange juice over Coke. I like Coke, but oj's better for this sort of thing. And plenty of water. Don't be afraid to ask for a break if you need one--the artist will too, at some point. And something with protein. I'd bring some nuts to chew on, if you're going to have a hand free. It provides a…
  • I find joining these "Lose 10 pounds" threads really motivating! I lost 9 last month, which made me happy. SW: 240 CW: 210 GW for the month: 200 (I'd LOVE to hit 199, but that's pretty aggressive) I'm planning to keep up with my current cardio and strength training, and add C25K, starting with at least one week of just…
  • I've got 11 pounds to go...that's a big goal, but I'm in for trying!
  • Ooh, I want to play! Watching everybody last month was so inspiring! I'm already planning to start walking and then start C25K this month, in addition to my regular cardio and strength training. I may need to add in a few more planks and body weight exercises to get those abs looking good! Also, who wants to run in more…
  • Are you doing these workouts on consecutive days? It's called 30 Day Shred, but that doesn't mean it needs to be completed in 30 days. Try putting a rest day (or cardio day, or whatever you want to do that's not high impact) between the days you do JM. It may help give your knees a break.
  • I change mine out every now and then. Right now it's sugar and iron, because those are the two that I struggle with. Of course, MFP's sugar setting is practically useless, since if I eat Kashi with 2% milk for breakfast in the morning, that puts me at my goal sugar right there. Completely unrealistic. I tend to change them…
  • Ooh, this sounds terrific! Though I'm allergic to spinach, so I'll stick with using kale. Thanks! ETA - do you use fresh tomato?
  • I'm with the other posters who said they have a goal pants size. The scale number I picked because my doctor approved, and based on my history, it seems like a good place for me. But really, my goal is to be in a size 8 pants, regardless of the scale.
  • That sounds like extra skin, though there may be some fat there, too. A former co-worker of mine dropped a lot of weight very quickly, and had a similar situation in his abdominal region. His normalized eventually.
  • One of my favorite belly dance instructors is overweight. Can she do absolutely everything the more fit instructors can do, in the same way? No. But she's still a damned impressive dancer, and knows what she's talking about when she's teaching. Between this, and as someone else mentioned, the innumerable coaches that are…
  • If you have a small amount to lose, you shouldn't have your goal set to lose 2 lbs. a week. You should change it to lose .5 or 1 lb a week, and make sure you NET the calories that MFP suggests. If you're netting less than 1200 calories now, that's almost definitely your problem. Increase your calorie goal, log your…
  • I've been taking classes off and on (mostly off) for the last six or seven years, up until about a year ago when I started taking them regularly. I've never been blessed with a particular amount of coordination, but lots and lots of practice does make up for it, and ends up being great cardio! A big mirror helps, but once…
