A few brands to look for are, Endangered Species, Enjoy Life, Rice Dream, and I think some of the Green and Black bars may be dairy free. Do you have a Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, or a health food store nearby? That would be your best bet.

It won't happen until he is ready. Do what you are doing for you and be prepared that he may never be ready to make the change. Have a conversation and tell him you're concerned about his health, but leave it at that. Nagging (not saying you are) won't help.

Effective for what? Any protein powder you choose will effectively up your protein intake. I usually use a soy based flavorless powder found in the bulk section of Sprouts, when I remember to buy it.

One of the reasons I love lentils... they don't need to be soaked.

All things in moderation. Vary your proteins.

Drink it when you like. It's tea. It isn't going to appreciably 'boost' your metabolism. Sorry. It's a tasty, calorie free beverage, but that's about it.

This.

I used to make them with bacon fat. They were delicious.

Yes, then squeeze out the excess water.

How are you measuring your calories? Likely you are eating more than you think.

Are you currently vegan? If you are wanting to adopt a vegan diet as a means to lose weight. It isn't necesary. What do you mean by maintaining a vegan diet? Not consuming any animal products would be a good place to start. I was an obese vegan, and now I am a 'less obese' vegan, but it wasn't until I started counting…

Decide you want to make the change. Willpower comes from within. When you want it badly enough, you will do it.

Yep.

I love this chart.

This. I have 3 kids under ten. Even the 3 year old can pour himself a glass of water. I'm not saying some days aren't crazy, ok most days are crazy. I don't use caring for my kids as an excuse for not caring for myself. Ever.

Cream cheese and jelly was my fave growing up.

It is. My son's allergy isn't that severe, but I don't like to take chances.

Pre-vegan, my fave was Dom DeLuise's from scratch death by chocolate. (There were 2 recipes in the book, one using a box, the other from scratch) Right now, I am liking the chocolate Depression cake that has been making it's way around the net recently.

We have a peanut allergy in the house too. Sunbutter is made in a certified peanut free facility, which a lot of the almond butters sold in stores are not. If her allergy is that serious, you want to look extra carefully at the labels. Other brands I have tried Sneaky Chef spread (made from peas) wow butter, and my all…

Look up body recomp. There are several good threads on it here.

I make a lentil loaf similar to Peachy, I also make a 'meat' loaf with tvp. It tends to set up better if you use a flat baking dish rather than the traditional loaf pan. Also, it sets up better if you refrigerate overnight. The top loaf is great for 'meatloaf' sandwiches.

The first week would be rough. Really really rough. I've done it before, not something I would like to repeat.
-
You may suggest it, but typically....ok. certainly you will recieve huge backlash for bringing up juice fasts and 'detox' as they are a complete load of bunk. And I'm saying this as one vegan to another. ;)

Sorry, my sarcasm was broken this morning. 4 cups of coffee and binge watching Sabrina the Teenage Witch with my daughter have fixed me right up. Carry on.

I shop at Aldi, for about the same weekly budget as you and feed a family of five. You don't need to change where you shop. Aldi has a great selection of economical 'healthy' foods. Dried beans, lentils, split peas. Canned beans, great produce. Heck, I even get organic soy milk there. The only things I don't buy at Aldi…
