  • Beware of rail road tracks- When crossing tracks, cattle guards, and cracks in the road do so at a perpendicular angle. Your wheel can slide into these and it's not pretty. Tracks are often at 45' angles to the road. Just swing out a bit and go perpendicular. Relax the butt- When coasting down hills I often stand on the…
  • Bicycle Fitting- Bikes are like tuxedo's and wedding dresses. You start with a size that roughly fits you and tailor it from there with seat post height and angle. As well as handlebar height and angle. Just about everything is adjustable on a bike. Or replaceable if not a Walmart type bike. Buying a bike- You don't need…
  • Children are less predictable then animals. But good advice from everyone. Always be defensive with people and cars. More so with cars even. Two ton car vs 20 lbs. bike...I'd have a better chance winning the Lotto.
  • Road shoes will give you more efficiency. But I'd still go mountain bike show for the security of the treads. I'm not a racer, just long distance casual pace type of guy.
  • Bike riding is a wonderful calorie burn. A spin class burns 1200 cals/hour. A touring paced ride, 15 mph burns 1000 cals/hour. You can do a low intensity ride to work and still burn plenty of calories. Any bike that is your size will be fine to start. Craigslist is a good place to look. I'd stay clear of Walmart bikes…
  • Water aerobics and low intensity cycling come to mind.
  • If it really bothers you I'd suggest a power meter. They go by different names, but basically a thing that measures torque at the crank. Very accurate in most conditions. Downside is they can cost as much as your bike. I'd personally go with a good quality HRM. Your calories burned wont be as accurate. But staying in the…
  • How rough is the gravel path? A plush bike (road bike for rougher surfaces) is lite and durable. A hybrid can be to heavy on longer trips. Try both out and go with what feels more comfortable on your back and legs.
  • This sounds like the best advice if you don't want to replace the whole thing. Things can often hide in the tire until under your body weight.
  • Make sure to go to a local bike shop for a proper fitting. When you know your size you can check craigs list, or some local cycle clubs hand down their older bikes to other members as they upgrade. I'd recommend a plush ,hybrid, or touring bike bike. Plush - ($700)Road bike with a more relaxed geometry. More upright seat…
  • Cycling doesn't feel like exercise. So you really don't get as much drudgery, just sunburns. Find a cycle club if you can. A little chit chat can take your mind of any distance. Sometimes it's easier to just follow a wheel 10 ft. in front of you. :)
  • your best bet is to look for close outs, last years bikes that are still at the shop. Or craigslist. But make sure you know your size and take someone knowledgeable with you. You can get a decent entry level mountain bike for that price. Road bikes usually run more.

  • on average what is the weight difference between steel frame and aluminum? My current bike is just over 33 lbs. I think the CAAD9 is a great bike. I'm hearing that the included components maybe have to be replaced at purchase. I'm keeping my options open. Hoping to maybe grab a good closeout. Tomorrow I think I may get mtb…
  • 25 mile group ride tonight with a few decent hills. I need to get a road bike. Need to get a job first haha. Old fogies kicking my butt up and down the street. Great group of people though. A nice no drop club.
  • I too am having this issue. But I feel better then ever even with my increased exercise. So I'm just going to ride it out and see what happens.

  • Sounds like an over use injury. If your new to running or increasing your mileage to rapidly it can happen. If it persists see a Dr.

  • Sounds great! Good luck and remember to keep your electrolytes balanced on the bike leg.
  • It's not really set in stone. Everyone is a little different. If your not hungry then your probably fine. Assuming you have no medical condition that causes lack of appetite. Your body usually tells you if your to low. Don't worry about it to much, you'll go nuts. The intake of calories at these low levels usually involves…
  • I find I have more energy to study when I work out. Still suffer from a lack of motivation for studying though lol. I try to fit in what I can during the week and kill it on the weekend, exercise wise.
  • Bicycle riding is great for slim high calves. The motion focuses on the upper part of the muscle. So they look slim and healthy, not muscularly bulky. It takes time though for the muscles to adjust.
  • My bike is the only piece of equipment I consistently use. Otherwise I just roam around the gym sometimes.
  • My legs and butt.
  • Is he doing fulls or halfs? Didn't really say in the video. I think he can do it. But I'm not sure if he would make official cutoff times for all &. I wish him luck.
  • I have grown to use cycling as my main form of exercise. I prefer being outside, riding at the park. But if I can't the gym works too I guess. I'd love to get into touring someday. Long rides that focus on the experience and scenery, not the speed. Finding videos of people that ride around the world and meet so many new…
  • Just take a break until your feeling better. Regardless off what kind of cold it is, you can set yourself back weeks in progress. If your training for some epic event the go knock yourself out. But my advise is to just recoup and watch what your eating. The road will be there after your cold.
  • I do the 3/4 cup. At first I was shocked that it was so tiny. But now I eat smaller meals more often. If I know I'll be away from food for longer times I'll up the servings. Honey Nut Cheerios FTW!
  • Lol That's why I first clicked on it. Was wondering who would look for their ex on mfp haha.
  • Make time for yourself. If your giving to much to others you'll burn out. Being a little selfish is a good thing. High intensity workouts will deliver the best burn in the least time. Weight training continues to burn calories after you've finished working out.
  • I would consider the commute to and from work exercise. I don't believe that is factored into the daily activity selection so log it. If it was a much shorter walk I wouldn't bother.
  • You can be as involved or removed from the community aspect as you wish. MFP is a great site to help keep track of your calories. And if/when you need a little support we are all here for you.
