New Whey liquid protein-my review
I had never seen or heard of it before. I was in costco getting my shakes(premier nutrition brand) and saw them. Hmmmm. 42 g protein in liquid form. Toss them in my cart. I crack open the first one. It comes in a tube with a lid. Kind of like a giant test tube. Crack open the fruit punch. Take a sip. Oh my god is it SWEET!…

Blog entry about glycogen, how muscles store water, etc.
Someone here posted a link and wrote a blog article that was really in depth about the physiology behind muscles storing glycogen and water and thus causing weight gain and such. I cannot remember the member's name and it was posted in a thread a few weeks ago, so it is lost unless I try to go through hundreds of posts. I…

If you have to cut your workout short...
what do you sacrifice? I usually do about 40 min lifting and 1 hour of cardio when i go to the gym. Today I only had 1 hour, so I did 20 min lifting and 40 of cardio. Then I kept wondering"Should I have just not lifted at ALL? Should I have done my full lifting and cut cardio? Does it really even freakin' matter?" So-what…

Please help me with my diet/macros, etc
Current info 1640 calories 40% protein 30% carb 30% fat I'm 5'8" and 158 lbs. medium build I'm trying to lose fat and, of course, hold onto as much muscle as possible. Date is April 2, 2013. Not a competition, but it is my 10 year anniversary cruise, so I want to LOOK like a bikini competitor.(18 weeks) I'm guessing I need…

How many hours/days a week do you work out?
I'm currently working out 4x a week. Alternating strength days upper body/lower body and then do 20-30 min cardio(elliptical, HIIT 1x a week on the bike, and running on the treadmill) after the strength workout is done. Is this adequate or do I really need to be doing 6x a week? And if I bum it up, does it matter if it is…

Pain in hands and wrists
Is this normal? I've been lifting 4x a week for 3 weeks now and my wrists and hands..hurt. It isn't like an injury hurt where it is in the same place all the time. It is like the pain migrates and comes and goes.

Lunges-a NSV
I had tendonitis in my right knee in high school. I was a runner then and through college. I also took about 2-4 hours of dance class a day in college. All that time, I could never do lunges because of the pressure on my knees. On my new lifting plan is lunges. I wrote them on my note pad to do and cringed. I said "The…

"Caramel Apple" greek yogurt
I was in the mood for a caramel apple last night, so made this. 1/2-1 cup greek yogurt 1 Tablespoon Agave Nectar(Could use honey, stevia, actual caramel if calories allow, maple syrup) 1/4 apple, chopped pinch of cinnamon a few nuts-chopped. I used cashews, but for more authentic caramel apple, use peanuts or peanut butter…

Hamstring issue
Tuesday last week I started a new training program that had stiff leg deadlifts. I did really well and felt the DOMS the next day. It is now over a week later and while it isn't DOMS, my hamstrings are now TIGHT. Like I used to be able to touch my toes, put my nose to my knees and hug my legs to stretch them. Now I can…

Straight leg deadlifts
Ummm yeah. If my legs aren't sore tomorrow, I'll be SHOCKED.

What are your macros set to?
I figure I'll ask the ladies who have/are aspiring to the same body type as I am as opposed to the general public. I recently changed mine to 50% protein, 35% carb and 15% fat. I'm working with a calorie defecit(500 cal/week) as I have about 20 lbs of fluff to lose--I'm obviously a beginner. I've only been at this less…

Is this a good plan?
I'm facing the age old issue-how to cut fat without losing loads of muscle mass. Truth is I'm fluffy. I know i have a good frame under the fluff, however. SO, to lose the fluff I've cut calories. I know I won't build muscle this way, but i'd like to preserve as much as possible. I don't want to be "skinny fat" I'd prefer…

What do your meals look like?
In my never ending research, I have discovered that while I'm staying under on calories, my macros were WAY out of whack for what my goals are. I need a buttload more protein. I need to go shopping on Thursday, so I need to add lots of protein rich foods. I have eggs, salmon, canned tuna and cheese on my list. I have…

Should I take a week off?
I injured my right foot during my 1/2 marathon 2 weeks ago. That was on a Sunday. That Tuesday, I thought I'd try to run on it and got about a mile. The following Sunday I walked about 3 miles. This past week I did the elliptical and it wasn't bothering me much at all. Then I got a massage yesterday. My foot is KILLING ME…

How are you measuring body fat%?
I haven't had this done since MAYBE high school when they use calipers. How is everyone getting their number? Using calipers, a BF scale?

Feels good to be back!
I took the summer off from lifting to take care of my kids who were obviously out of school and train for a 1/2 marathon. Today I started back to lifting. It felt so INCREDIBLE to be back lifting! I just wanted to lift, push and pull everything in the gym! It was admittedly difficult to start with lower weights, but I'll…

Ladies-starting weights
What weight did/are you starting at (started) for deadlifts and squats? What are your current weights and how long did it take you to get there? My deadlift is 80 though I'm sure I can do 90 for a few reps. Squat is at 80. I just started 2-3 weeks ago.

Deadlifted 95 lbs today
Just thought you'd all like to know:-) I did a set of 6. I'm gonna start with 85 next week and see if I can improve. I'm finding it easier to keep my form right, so figured I'd up the weight. Also-I'm doing half deads on the squat rack(using the safety stop for the "rack". How do I transition to full deads? When I first…

Slow and steady....
I LOVE coming here to see before/afters. They are so motivating. I'm a busy mother of 2, so I only get 3 days in the gym each week. During the summer I hope to make it 5x a week. I've only lost 5 pounds, but I wanted to show that changes ARE made even if the scale doesn't do a nosedive and that changes are not made…

Squat Question
How far apart should you feet be? I'm doing them on the Smith and I feel like I'm not going down low enough, but I cannot go lower without feeling off balance. Do I need a wider stance? I'm at barely wider than shoulder width.

Cutting and bulking
I'm just curious what go-to sites, articles, etc you guys have. I'm not going to be doing either, I'm just curious as to how each phase is done, for how long, etc.

How much have I doomed myself?
I have 8 weeks before I have to start a training program for a 1/2 marathon. I've been doing heavy lifting Tues/Thurs and HIIT Wednesdays(these are the only 3 guaranteed days at the gym i have, so) I'm currently working on a 1 lb/week deficit. Am I going about this all wrong? Should I actually be bulking to try to gain…

Leg workouts are working
My thighs have each grown 2 inches since Jan 16. Guess those muscle fibers are remembering my college days when I danced about 2 hours a day and lifted 5x a week. Now hopefully my butt remembers what it looked like way back when !LOL

What's on your bucket list?

Kids and exercize-weight lifting specifically
My 5 and 6 year old daughters like watching my husband and I lift dumbbells. I have a set of 2 lb dumbbells that they always go for, but I'm not sure if it is a positive to teach them form, etc and just let them have at it and be glad they are getting interested at such a young age or if there is something about it that…

Another weight training question
My last weights workout I did I felt like I was spending so much time going from machine to machine, so I opted today to do dead lifts, squats, chest presses(machine-I'll do bench press when I'm more comfortable) and using the pull up machine thing(my goal for year end is to be able to do one without the machine!) I asked…

Weight training-would someone critique my workout?
I'm messing with learning machines, which exercises I'm comfy with and which I'm not etc. Been a while since I've been in a weight room. Here is the order I did stuff in. Please critique actual exercises chosen, weights and number of reps chosen, order I did them in, etc. Thanks so much! Bicep curls dumbbells 8 rep 20…

When you know better, you do better...
Oprah always said this, and I'm having my "AhhHaa" moment this week after reading a LOT of posts, articles, etc from this site. I've been running like crazy, expecting to lose weight and slim and tone while eating a calorie deficit. I never lasted longer than a few months(and the longest was because of a vacation to…

HIIT-how often do you do it and how?
I was all pumped to go to the gym so I could do HIIT using an exercize bike. My car wouldn't start. I'd walk to the gym, but it is 10 miles away. I'm not that hard core-yet!LOL So I decided I'd do interval running. At the first get out, I realized I hadn't stretched my dquads very well and they didn't just go "Hey, slow…
