Chondromalacia Patellae
After many road races, triathlons, heavy lifting, 7 years in Thai kickboxing, mountain biking, I've finally been done in by a bloody Jillian Michaels video. At least, that's what I think. Was recently diagnosed with Chondromalacia Patellae (medical term for "stupid knee") after two months of on-and-off swelling/effusion in…

New motivational gadget better than Fitbit or HRM
It's 6:00 on Monday morning. Your alarm has just violently woken you from a sound sleep. "Crap on a stick," you think. "Time to go for a run. I wish there was a device that would allow me to just stay in bed eating Cheetos until I hate myself enough to stop." Well, now there is! Introducing: F-itBit(tm) F-itBit(tm) is a…

Why define yourself by a clothing size?
What's the obsession with defining your progress with clothing size? You do realize that it's a fabricated number, varies based on manufacturer, and isn't fixed on any actual measurements, right? If you weighed 20lbs more in the UK than in the US, would you still consider weight to be an accurate measure of your body?

Biggest food sacrifices?
To those who have lost weight so far... Was there a point in your progress where you knew you had to COMPLETELY get rid of a particular food that was hindering your weight loss? Whether it was seriously high in calories, or because you knew you wouldn't be able to moderate yourself? If you've kept off the weight... Do you…

What's your run route? Post pics!!
I want to see where you run! What's the scenery like? What's your favorite time of day? How long is it? Post pictures please! I live in Connecticut about a half mile from Long Island Sound, so my normal route takes me down by the water. I like to time it so that I get there just at sunset (or better yet, sunrise). There's…

Tri season is pretty much over
At least here in New England, all the outdoor triathlons are over. Are you going to continue doing any indoor triathlons this autumn/winter? Or is it outdoors-or-nothing for you? I don't think I would enjoy an indoor tri.

I did my first sprint tri yesterday!
What the heck was I so nervous for?! It was a breeze. The half mile swim was no problem at all, I kept a steady pace and even outswam a lot of the first wave (I was in the second). 12 mile bike was difficult, I don't own a road bike (only a hybrid) so lots of people breezed past me, especially on the hills. 3.1 mile trail…

Runners, any pre-race rituals?
Hey runners, do you have any weird, superstitious, or fun pre-race (or during-race) rituals that you go through? As for myself, I eat a cupcake the night before a race. I'm not trying to carbo-load, but it's become part of my routine, I have always run well in the morning, and hey... It's the only time I eat cupcakes :)…

Best tasting coconut water?
Does anyone have a taste preference in terms of plain coconut water? I love coconut water after an intense workout (I lose a lot of fluids)... I found that Zico is my favorite so far, over VitaCoco. There are a plethora of other brands at Whole Foods that I haven't tried though. Interested in hearing what your coconut…

Keeping track of race results
I'm starting to get into races (5k, 10k, triathlon coming up) and would like a nice way to track my race results. Ranking, time, distance, etc. Anyone know of an app (preferably Android) that does this inherently? I guess I could create a spreadsheet but was hoping there might be a fun app for keeping my race results…

Strong Opinions on Weight Loss
Do you have strong opinions on how other people should lose weight? I challenge you to prove that it works. Lose the weight, gain the muscle, do what you need to do to earn the body you want using the methods you swear by. Once you're there, maintain that body for at least a year. Then come back and tell people that your…

First 5k tomorrow
Wish me luck, C25Kk friends... I have my first race ever tomorrow morning! I'm really hoping to average under a 10 minute mile. I am very nervous and seeing my name on the long list of registered participants makes it very "real". I'm just hoping it will be less than 80 degrees!!

Post Your 5K
I thought we ought to have a thread where we post our upcoming 5Ks (or results of our 5K) so that we can support one another! After all, the goal of C25K is to be able to run a 5K right?? I've got one on June 23rd in Fairfield CT (like a mile from my house!) and then I'm doing Run For Your Lives (zombies and obstacles) on…

Graduated early from C25K - Intro
So, before moving onto week 3 of the C25K program I started running one day and didn't stop for about 35 minutes... I looked down at my GPS and it turned out I had run 5K! I was psyched, but I knew it meant C25K is probably not the right program for me, so I was directed here by a bunch of C25K grads. I just got the Bridge…

Here's how you eat more to weigh less
1. Figure out your approximate BMR and TDEE 2. In general, eat more than your BMR but less than your TDEE. If you want to make it really simple, try to eat exactly your TDEE minus 15-20% If you want to refute this please feel free, and cite your research! Completely open to debate!

MFP estimate vs actual weight loss
How many pounds per week is your MFP goal set to? How many pounds per week (on average) are you actually losing?

Advice and profile pics
Be honest... Do you (even just internally) accept or reject someone's advice based on the person's body in their profile picture? Are you less likely to take advice from someone who looks like they are struggling with their weight?

Resetting after 4 years of metabolic damage
Here's my introduction... Age: 29 Height: About 5'7" CW: 139 GW: Probably 130 for now BMR: 1450 TDEE: 1700 if I'm sedentary... I'm going based on this number and then eating my exercise calories back. Back in 2008, I lost 35-40lbs by eating very low calories and doing 5-6 days of cardio (elliptical and martial arts). My…

What's your C25K training schedule?
1. Where are you in the C25K program right now? 2. Do you always take rest days in between run days? 3. Have you extended or shortened the C25K program at all? 4. Do you usually complete a training week of C25K within a 7 day period, or do you ever start the next week early/late? 5. Is there a particular race you're…

People who can't help themselves
...From making comments A few weeks ago I was at Whole Foods picking up some dinner to go, after a workout. I handed my closed box of food to the cashier who weighs it and says "wow you must be REALLY hungry! That's a ton of food!" I ask, "Are you really making a judgment about how much I'm eating?" She says, "I guess so,…

Should I continue with C25K?
I started the program on May 9th, not from "couch" exactly but I've never been a runner and so I always figured it would take me forever to complete. I just finished Week 2 and was hoping to move on to Week 3 today. Well, yesterday I went to go run outside and I ended up running for 35 minutes straight, which turned out to…

Fitness Gadgets and Apps

First time running!
Hi all! I should say that running makes me really nervous. I have crappy knees, probably from carrying an extra 40lbs around with me for years. I lost all the weight about 3 years ago and I'm a lot happier now. My fitness routine is boxing or kickboxing for an hour every days or so, and it's really an amazing workout. I'm…

WTF happened on The Voice finale (spoiler)!?
Everyone I know voted for Juliet (who is spectacular) or Tony Lucca (who is great, but also it would be hilarious if he won because it would have pissed off Christina) Instead the winner was a singer with a great voice, but no originality and could have been replaced by any other R&B singer. What the heck happened!??!

Zombie 5k
http://runforyourlives.com/ Wow! A 5k with zombies! Obstacles, blood, and mud galore! I'm in no way a runner, and I expect to be zombified almost immediately, but I'm thinking of doing c25k just for this. Too late to sign up as a zombie for most of the locations, but there are still many runner slots available! Anyone have…

Amazing things people say when you're losing weight
I lost 40lbs a couple of years ago and am now trying to maintain. There are some absolutely astounding things that people (usually skinny people!) have said to me while I was losing weight. "Wow, if you lose any more weight you'll be a model" "You've lost a ton of weight" (Me: "uh, I think 'ton' may be the wrong word..")…

People who SUCK at running (Or just hate it)
We are in the middle of a runner's world where it seems everyone and their grandmother are running marathons and talking about it like it's no big deal. 1) I look like a three legged camel when I try to run. My toes point inward and my knees start to hurt. 2) I hate running. I'm a fast sprinter, but I can only run for…

Anyone else dealing with being stagnant against their will?
I'm traveling this week on business, and I'll be working from 7am to about 10pm. When I come back, I have rehearsals all night for two nights. Night is when I get myself to boxing or Muay Thai class, and it's going to be tough not going, I feel restless already! I'm going to try to see if I'm able to get to the hotel's…
