Runners who hate running?
Alright, I'm almost one year into my career as a runner. I have lost about 125 pounds and gone from being unable to run half a mile to running 6 miles. I have used a treadmill most of the time, watching a TV. But I've also sprinkled in outdoor runs, and even a competitive run (Warrior Dash). I have done intervals, slow…

Netflix: Survivors
Okay, so it's not about Zombies, but it's a cool show about a post-apocolypic world. If you have Netflix streaming, I recommend checking it out. It's a BBC show. Enjoy!

Warm holiday beverage (not diet!)
I made an awesome drink this weekend for a Christmas party. 32 ounces of milk 3 scoops of vanilla protein powder A full packet of grocery store eggnog mix 4 shots of Kahlua Warmed it up in the microwave It was extremely good, but way way rich. 4oz of it was enough for me. For 4oz it's: 180 calories 27g carb 1g fat 14g…

Wanted: best mincemeat pie recipe
I know many/most people hear of this pie and gag, but the mincemeat Pie I had as a teen was awesome. No actual meat in it, filled with apple, raisins and cinnamon. Anyone have a favorite recipe for it? Preferably a healthier version, but I'd also enjoy the full-strength option. :)

Gotta buy a new treadmill - Recommendations
I bought a Craigslist treadmill a year or so ago, for $400. It's been very nice... it was a Healthrider H120t. 12mph max, 12% max incline. iFit compatible. I liked it except for how it just stopped working yesterday. I called their support and they say I need a new console piece, which is, of course, over $500 to replace.…

Wanted: A meal that I can eat until I'm stuffed
Okay, I've been eating healthy for about 5 months. And that means stopping my meals when I've had enough, NOT when I feel full. I get it, and I absolutely plan to live by that as the general rule for the rest of my life. That said... every once in a while I'd really like the ability to feel absolutely full (even if it's…

Healthy meals at national chains?
I am trying to come up with a pretty long list of healthy things to eat at restaurants I might go to spur of the moment, especially on business trips. It's hard to control meals on the road, and having a list of "safe" places and foods would really be a big help. Here's my start, please contribute what you guys have. (I'm…

Delivery pizza for tonight
I am hosting a group of folks at my house for dinner tonight, and need to order pizza. Any recommendations on the healthiest delivery or pick-up option? I am ordering three pizzas, and figure i'll get one veggie/healthy one that i'll eat, and two unhealthy for the other peeps. Usually I would just go with Papa Murphy's,…

Plain Greek yogurt + PB2 =
BLECK! I love PB2, and I like greek yogurt well enough... seemed like a match made in heaven. Uh... no. That was horrible. But, I added 3/8 scoop of vanilla protein powder and that rescued the meal. It's pretty good now.

Effects of prolonged 'healthy life' on attitute
So, when I first started this healthy eating and exercise stuff (about 4 months ago) it put me in a super good mood. I was totally energetic, and excited with the changes I was making to my life. My routine consisted of about 2200 calories a day (which is a 2lb/week loss rate) and working out twice a day. Gradually over…

Pullups hurt my arms
Is this normal? I've been doing 4-5 sets of pullups every other day. I do them until failure each set. Which isn't saying much... At first I didn't actually DO any pullups, I just tried and failed for a while. Then I got the point where I could do one pullup, and I'd fail on a second attempt. Now I can do two successful…

BF versus BMI calc
Okay, so i have been trying to get a good handle on a healthy goal weight. My original goal was 250, and I am sure that's too high now. But I am not sure what a realistic goal is. I am a 6'3 34 year old man. I have a very large frame (wide shoulders, huge head, etc). I started at 345 pounds, I'm at 261 as of today. BMI…

How did you find MFP?
It was recommended to me by a friend who uses it for tracking food. She's totally healthy, at a great weight, and in great shape (runs marathons). Curious how the rest of you found it.

Free pants! 40x32
I've gone down a couple of sizes. I haven't replaced my entire wardrobe (cuz who know how far I'll go?) but I am looking to get rid of SOME of my old pants. This lot is business casual. 6 pairs of pants: cargo pants and khakis. I also have some 3XL shirts I would be happy to give away. All free to a good home. If you want…

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2011/07/12/exp.am.menu.calories.labeling.cnn I saw this video on CNN.com's site, and thought I'd see if anyone here knows more about it. Can you share any links to articles about this new requirement? I'm very excited to see what's in all those dishes at my favorite chains... the…

Yoplait lights
Okay, so those commercials where the skinny chick talks about how she is losing weight by eating all kinds of desserts... they got me to buy some of the Yoplait Light yogurts. Boston Cream Pie, Key Lime Pie, Black Velvet Cake, Cherry Cobbler, etc. You know what I've learned from this? I've learned that it's impossible to…

Randomly discouraged
First of all, for all you who are going through real challenges with your weight-loss, like plateaus, injuries or medical conditions, you might not want to read this. This is just the whining of someone who's been very lucky. Does anyone else get randomly discouraged for no apparent reason? I'm having great success,…

Running effort question
I have been running on my treadmill for almost 3 months now. I have been running faster and longer as I go. As of this weekend I got up to running for a full 30 minutes at 6.1mph. I wear a HRM, and in generally, after 5 or so minutes of running my heart rate gets up to somewhere in the high150's. I am 34 years old...…

That 'click'
Now that I'm starting to have a pretty good degree of success with my diet (down about 70 pounds of the 95 in my original goal) I am starting to get some people who ask me for what I'm doing, and how they can lose weight too. Unfortunately, the most important part of the entire process is something that I don't think can…

Effects of eating worse food
So, I've been eating pretty clean, and enjoying lots of healthier foods for the last three months. Previous to that I was a disaster. At the same time I started eating better I also started working out. Well, I had to travel for a couple of weeks, and the quality of my food went way down. I was still staying under my…

Best reasonably priced bike shorts (and others)?
Heya, I want to buy some accessories... i went by the local Bike Source (chain store) and looked at the options, and things were just really expensive. I was hopeful that some folks on here could point me to good options I could find for a better price online. #1 thing I need is bike shorts. I'd love to get that cushion so…

Favorite whey protein?
I have purchased the Pure Protein vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavors from King Sooper (Colorado's verion of Kroger) and like both chocolate and vanilla pretty well. MPH on an elliptical?
Obviously the MPH on a treadmill make sense... and even MPH on a stationary bike make sense (assuming being in a particular gear the whole time). But what does MPH on an elliptical mean? There's no elliptical vehicle that this equates to, right? Are they giving speed as though it's a bicycle maybe? Anyway, just a curiosity!

Hardest habit to break
So, I've been doing this new lifestyle for a couple of months now. I am very good at eating right. It's not that hard for me fortunately. The first couple of weeks were a challenge with portion control, but now the biggest challenge is actually FINDING healthy food, not getting myself to choose them. I have been very good…

Two 30 minute workouts versus one 60?
I have been doing steady state cardio at night, and lately been doing bike rides for about an hour. I am planning to ride my bike to work tomorrow. It seems perfect, as it's about 30 minutes each way, so i can get my workout out of the way save gas and all the good stuff. What I want to know is the difference between…

Two bike questions: Seat and pressure gauge
Hello, I just picked up biking, and have a couple of questions. 1. I find the seat on my bike to be pretty uncomfortable after about a half hour. Can anyone recommend a good seat to replace it with? My bike is a mountain bike, but I ride it on all surfaces. Mostly asphalt (roads) and some gravel trails. If I could find a…
