The polar vortex is no joke. I also took everyone's advice and layered up yesterday for a 5.5 mile run. My body was fine....but my fingers were absolutely freezing. I was wearing some Nike gloves that were barely better than not wearing anything.

I've got a 5k at my kid's school Saturday and race time temps will be about 29*. I need to find something that's a little warmer. Fortunately it's just a 5k, so I can suck it up..but I'm really hoping to find something warm to run in the rest of winter.

I have Nike gloves and honestly hate them. Then I was stupid and brought another pair of Nike that were heavier and honestly not much warmer. Again hate them. So I'm going to find something else I'm liking Under Armour right now so I might get a pair from them.

    11/13/2014 - 5 miles, indoors
38/100 for the month. Visiting Nashville for a conference, so no long runs for me this weekend. Will update my ticker when I get back home. Great job, everyone!!! Keep calm and keep on running :)

    Enjoy Nashville!

Ran 3.25 on the treadmill. (About 7 degrees out this morning so not running outside but I am spending the afternoon outside trimming my evergreen trees. Lol). That's as close to running that I will do outside until it warms up. Those of you who run in the cold are rock stars!!! :)

A 1.5mi Air Force PT test in 9:10 somehow turned into a 7.7mi day with warmup and cooldown.

    96.2mi done/118.8mi/16d remaining

We are only 90 minutes south of Nashville. If my wife didn't have a race Saturday morning, I would invite you to our group long runs if you had the time and don't mind getting up super early. We leave at 7 AM.

I gotta figure out how to dole out mileage for this weekend. Normally I do a 5-6 mile run on Friday and was scheduled to do my a long run 8-10 on Sunday. But I'm running a 5k at my son's school tomorrow morning. (I really want to go hard for a PB.)

I'm thinking an easy 3 today, run the race tomorrow and just do 5-6 on Sunday. Is that a reasonable approach?

There are a lot of folks I know here that have long runs scheduled at the same time they have a race. What many will do is just tack on the extra milage as soon as they are done with their shorter race.

I figure if you have a 5K Saturday, you will need to do a warm up. So say you get in 2 slow miles to warm up before the race, then race your 5K. You can then just tack on another 4 or 5 miles after the race at a slower pace. Will be a good cool down even. As long as you have no more than a half hour break in between each segment, you may get away with calling that your long run.

That may work....I'll see how it feels tomorrow. I did an easy run this afternoon and my legs felt really heavy. But I didn't realize until I got back that I was in meetings since 7:30 and hadn't eaten all day. So hopefully it was just a 'bad day.'

Can't wait for my first half tomorrow! Been looking forward to this for a while! Will be nice to get some miles back in again. I haven't run for several days now, resting for this half (and because of sore ankles after the last run).

Oh, it's supposed to snow tomorrow. Starting just before the race. I've never run in the snow before. I'm actually kind of excited to have this be my first attempt.

Nice 4 mile trail run this morning with 754ft of climb, bit of a lung buster but feels good now i'v done it. Brings my total to 33.4 with 36.6 to do so nearly half way.
    Wow - that's quite a hill!

I got in 3.25 miles of walking. Sometimes it's nice to slow it down and just let your mind wander a bit.
It is good to take it down a notch and just enjoy! Hopefully it wasn't too cold!

12/30: 5.4 - 11/1/14; 2 - 11/11/14; 2.6 - 11/13/14. I did not run at all last week. I could not find the will to do anything last week, but I am back on track.

On the 11th, I made it through the sprinkles of rain, and today I made it through the flurries of snow (and ice on the ground). My legs were numb, but I made it.
Good for you getting back on track and making it through the rain, snow and ice! Great job!!

First cold run ever, 37º with freezing winds making it feel even colder. At first I was having trouble, but then I stopped focusing on how cold I was and just ran and eventually warmed up.
That's what you have to do to keep at it!

My daughter and I are running a 5K tomorrow so I did a quick 2.8 miles this morning just to get my legs moving.
Have fun with your 5K - good luck!!
