Anyone else going sugar free in 2015?

Losing weight in and of itself will improve your overall health. The removal of sugar has little to do with it.

If it means switching sugar for artificial sweeteners, which taste terrible IMO, I'd rather stick to sugar. Plus I love fruit. No way I could give that up.0

I'm not going to call it sugar free, but I am giving up "sweets" and other foods with added sugar as much as possible for the rest of my life.
Last week, at the doctor's office, I read an article about sugar addiction in Reader's digest - www(dot)rd(dot)com(slash)health(slash)diet-weight-loss(slash)sugar-addiction. After seeing my self described in the article, I decided to stop eating foods with added sugar. It's been 1 week as of today. I love sweets, but I am unable to eat them in moderation. For me, the best solution is to avoid the sweets altogether and kick my addiction to sugar.0 -
No. I refuse to restrict myself. I always fail when I do it. This time I have not restricted anything and am 6 months in and almost 40lbs down. My way is working for me.0

Except that most things that claim to be 'sugar-free' contain other kinds of artificial sweeteners which is more of a concern to me than the sugar.0

I don't buy into fear-mongering articles. Unless you can find scientifically-proven data that does make a case, then there is no need to give up sugar unless you have a medical reason to.0 -

There is no evidence in your links. Just a bunch of naturopath nonsense.
Come with peer reviewed studies or don't bother.-1 -
Yes I think I'm going to try it, I'm trying to choose between 2 books on Amazon, the David Gillespie or Sarah Wilson ones. I live in France, but would like a book by a UK author so I know what the ingredients are! I have weight and energy issues, skin problems, and a definite sugar addiction. I don't expect to live sugar free forever, but if I can lose weight and cut those habits of snacking on sugary things it's worth a try!0

I once had a manager who bought those all the time. Yeah, he was always a little wired.0 -
I highly recommend the Sugar Impact Diet by Virgin. All about keeping your blood sugar level low by knowing what is high , med. and low sugar impact for all food groups and trying to only eat 3 meals a day with adequate protein and fiber to allow your blood sugar to really come down before you eat again. I think it is the missing piece for me.0

I'm not going sugar 'free' but I will be cutting back on my sugar because this is something that was working for me previously before I stopped doing it.
Unfortunately in the past few months I have found myself snacking more and more on sugary things and I need to stop. I firmly believe that FOR ME, the more sugar I have in my diet, the more I want. This is not to say that there is anything wrong with eating sugar, only that FOR ME, if I have sugar I tend to want more and this turns into a roller coaster of high calorie sweet snacks which seriously impact my ability to stay under my calories. I am not cutting back the sugar for any other reason apart from trying to stay under my goals. I don't NEED 100g of sugar / day - which is how my days have been going lately.0 -
No because I don't believe in cutting out something that doesn't harm me and I enjoy.
As for books, I prefer Don't Quit Sugar by Cassie Platt, who actually knows what she's talking about. http://www.amazon.com.au/Dont-Quit-Sugar-sugars-important-ebook/dp/B00HZ2ZXB20 -
Lost 83 lb. so far by cutting back my portions and eating more whole foods and cooking more. I have not cut out anything (although I did have to cut back my carbs on Dr's orders after a T2D diagnosis). I enjoy the occasional candy, cake, glass of wine, bottle of beer, whatever even WITH a medical reason to limit carbs. No reason whatsoever to cut them out.
ETA: went from medication to diet and exercise controlled diabetes in less than a year, still having the occasional sugary treat.0 -

A macrobiotic chef, a chiropractor, and a former teacher .... which of those is a viable, vetted source reporting on a scientific study?0 -
