Using Bento Boxes for lunches.

That's what I like about bentos so much; you can fill it with whatever you like! I like eating pretty much anything so having some Japanese recipes to add to my arsenal just gives me more good things to eat XD
And omg my first bento shipment has arrived! I'm geeking out so hard right now

I want all things Totoro too. That and Sailor Moon, but I am a kid at heart, plus my kids love the too ^_^ And Kiki's and Totoro sets go well together.
@SpecialKitty7 I want these, also found on Amazon. Just leaving that here. ^_^0 -

I almost got the Totoro one as well, but I have a soft spot for black cats (and I totally love KiKi's delivery service)

@HanamiDango ... why not make yourself one for lunch even if you don't go anywhere? I mean, consider it a little treat & TLC time for yourself in the morning. Who doesn't want to eat an extra cute lunch? Also those cups are adorable! I would totally get heart shaped ones. And now I must find them XD
@SpecialKitty7 Yeah, if I enjoy doing this in general I'll probably get both Totoro & Kiki sets... because awesome XD
Not gonna lie though, what I'm REALLY excited about is making my own furikake. So many recipes, such tasty, just need to keep the sodium down hehe

@HanamiDango I purchased this one for eating at home: https://www.etsy.com/listing/213796884/sale-15japanese-bento-box-authentic?ref=sr_gallery_4&ga_search_query=bento&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery It's actual lacquered wood, not fake plastic wood, and it has ceramic and bamboo inserts. It was quite a splurge, but very stunning in person, and the perfect size for a reasonably portioned lunch.
But today's lunch is leftover chicken burrito (in the plastic bowl) and spinach/bacon salad, caprese salad, pepper strips and baby broccoli with a little bottle of balsamic for the salads. I also have some Petite Creme for dessert and some nuts for a snack. No idea of the calories since the burrito was restaurant food (and has lots of sour cream) but with all the veggies, it shouldn't be too bad.

This also just arrived, not that I'm nerding out at all LOL Needed some extra containers for breakfast as I usually bring that with me to work as well

I love the look, but living in a desert, I use a 6-pack cooler, ice pack and glass containers for the microwave.0

I see how it is, I go travelling and all the new bentoers come out of the woodwork. I'm not that scary, honest. Well, maybe a little.....FitGeekery wrote: »This also just arrived, not that I'm nerding out at all LOL Needed some extra containers for breakfast as I usually bring that with me to work as well
I keep staring at the Totoro sets every time I look online. My annual bonus is coming up soon, so maybe I'll give in0 -

I may not live in a desert, but Australia isn't an overly cool climate. I use a good quality coolerbag with a couple of ice packs in it for 6 months of the year for my trips to and from work.0 -
@mangrothian Haha I've been lurking on this thread since you first started it! I've been wanting to bento for a loooong time to finally decide. And then I found all of the Totoro/Kiki's Delivery themed bento stuff on Amazon... and the rest is history XD0

I'm so happy this thread exists! I've been lurking for a while, and I can't wait to get bento-ing for myself0

In the large box: Romain with carrots, corn, balsamic chicken and onions, tomatoes, egg.
In the small box: pineapple, sweet potato triscuits, goat cheese medallion.
And I keep a bottle of Frank's hot sauce at my desk. It doesn't need to be refrigerated, which is awesome. I use it on all of my veggies, including on my greens instead of dressing. I covered everything in the larger box in hot sauce and mixed it all up to turn it into a salad.0 -
Totoro was the first request movie of the day!!
@FitGeekery love the boxes! Those are mini-cups in a set, Linked Here for you. ^_^
@FitGeekery and @SnuggleSmacks I would make lunch but than I have 3 kids who would also want lunch made, while I could do it in the morning, I am honestly just to lazy, in a way. I rather chase my little ones around ^_^ Granted it I probably should do it like twice a week for all of us. & SnuggleSmacks what an nice box!!
Today's love wife box is left over baked chicken parmesan, pasta, mozzarella, and green beans.

@HanamiDango Thanks for the link, I'm gonna add it to my wishlist hehe. And that's totally fair if you've got 3 little ones to chase but I agree, even doing it once a week could be a fun treat for everyone, mum and kids alike0

I'm totally going to buy these! Amazon should pay you commission. Someone is going to wonder why there is a sudden spike in sales of adorable little truffle cups.0 -
Beautiful and nutritious! I love it!0

I got my box and most of my box bits in the mail today. It is soooo cute but so small. I have hope that with proper packing it will work out just fine but seeing as I eat mostly veggies and little grain I'm not sure. The size guidelines for boxes (which I found after ordering) say I should have an 800-900 ml box and this is 640 ml. I love the box so if it doesn't work out I'm so going to be sad panda!
Yummy looking lunch Narcissora!0 -
Looking at everyone else's boxes! Going through some things right now and just not into doing it. I have eaten horribly and using the pics to inspire me to do better!0

Tiny bunny bento box challenge: accepted!
Top layer: ham, carrots, almonds, and blueberries
Bottom: tomatoes and kale salad with sunflower seeds, mushrooms and Gorgonzola. Honey mustard dressing not pictured.
Also will have cherry seltzer water. Hopefully it will be enough since I'll be at work a little late tonight ☺️0 -
I don't know if I can call a frozen burrito in Tupperware a bento, so I will call this one "bento-inspired OMG THERE IS NOTHING TO EAT IN THIS HOUSE".
Frozen black bean and sweet potato burrito (I made a dozen of these about a month ago, wrapped them individually in Saran Wrap, and tossed them in the freezer for desperate times); tomato; blanched broccoli; and pineapple.0 -
I had a bento yesterday (chicken, rice, broccoli, and apple slices) but didn't get a picture. And I haven't had a bento any other day b/c I've been slacking and need to grocery shop. And looking at all your pretty posts makes me miss my bentos T^T0
-
I keep forgetting to take pictures. Yesterday was a roast beef and goat cheese sandwich, mix of chickpeas, butternut squash, green peas and chicken sausage, and a red spinach salad with feta and avocado dressing.0

Alright, I really want to order a bento box so I can stop using the same tupperware every day. I'm sure there are suggestions somewhere in this discussion, but there are so many posts at this point that I don't know where to look.
I'm worried about size - Monbento and Bentgo seem so big while this adorable Kotobuki seems like it might be too small.
Any suggestions? I don't have a dishwasher, so it doesn't need to be dishwasher safe, and I don't microwave my bentos, so it doesn't matter if it is microwave safe or not.0 -

Where are you in the world? I'm in the United States and ordered mine off of Amazon but there are some other cool sources for other parts of the world.0 -

I'm in the U.S. too. The links in my previous post are to a few I found on Amazon. I'm also a prime member, so I specifically search for prime-eligible items for the free shipping. I'm really just worried about size. I have the lock & lock bentos in storage, and I feel like those are way too big. I absolutely love the Kotobuki one I linked (the cat design is adorable), but I'm really afraid that it is going to be tiny.

First, I would look at this website for guesstimating the correct size bento box for you, based on age, gender and height.
That Kotobuki box is adorable. I can't seem to find the amount it holds, but maybe it is just me... The box I got is this one and holds 640 ml. I have only used it today and it seemed like enough of what I packed but otherwise I don't have experience to help. I am a 5'10" physically active, overweight female if that helps
There are so many cute boxes out there; it is so hard to choose!0
