Why did you come to the conclusion to lose weight?

I went through a devastating heartbreak which took a huge toll on my self esteem. So I decided to take control of my life and transform my body. I've lost about 10 lbs so far and currently in the process of healing my heart.10

I put on weight quickly due to medication (about 35 pounds in less than two years) but didn't even realize it at first. There were many little moments, but I think my turning point was when I realized I was always out of breath after tying my shoe laces, and I couldn't even bend down enough to put on some of my shoes without help. Or, it might have been when I went to buy a pair of jeans and none would fit, so the girl kept bringing me jeans in bigger and bigger sizes until I broke down and left the store in shame.
Ready to turn this around, though, and happy to be here. Nice to meet you all.5 -

I got fed up of being in tears every time I was trying to find something to wear in the mornings and nothing fit anymore. Another reason, I saw some pictures of me on holiday and I couldn't believe how big I had got. My main reason though is that diabetes and heart disease are common in my family so I really want to be healthy and not have to cope with those diseases!4

For my age being 23 and just not feeling comfortable in MY OWN skin. I've always had weight problems but one day I just decided to change my life around. It has been a bumpy road but we can all make it !!3

I have known for a long time that I needed to lose weight and not being able to keep up with my 2 year old son was a big part.
I signed up for a group and a month down the line and over a stone lighter I am fully motivated and have no interest in stopping. It just seems to have clicked.5 -
A few years ago I was fed up with feeling *kitten* and going on bad dates. Decided to focus on me and it worked. For a couple of years. Bought new clothes! And then put on heaps of weight again, my clothes don't fit and my knee and back hurt constantly. Grrrraaarrrgghh. So starting again on MFP making friends (looking for Aussie Timezone buds especially) and counting stuff. Feel better already... can I keep it up though??!!1

My husband was losing weight and getting closer and closer to my weight. I wasnt going to weight more than him, lol. Also watching people around my struggle with T2D and high blood pressure and knowing those things run in my family I decided to take control while the choice was still mine. Almost a year and I have lost a little over 20kgs.2

I painted my toe nails yesterday. It was actually hard to do. I also can't see my own crotch without moving my stomach out of the way - that's uncharted territory for me!
My top two reasons though?
1. My husband and I just took permanent birth control action - which signals the end of my childbearing years. I need to take care of myself and give myself a new sense of vitality because I am finished bringing little lives into the world. I really didn't like the "all used up" feeling I got when the procedure was completed.
2. My health is giving me signs that I need to change. The signs are becoming less subtle.5 -
I turn 35 at the end of this week and it's time for me to do something. I'm about 40 lbs overweight and I'd like to get more toned. My boyfriend is a runner and has a sleek physique. I just can't keep up with him. I woke up yesterday and motivation came from nowhere, so right now I'm just running with it.
Currently, I have a 30 day plan to start me off. I'll see what happens from there. For now, workouts, logging food and being accountable to myself (which is difficult for me) are my priorities.5 -
I've been struggling with my health for years, which is what made me gain in the first place. One of my friends told me that it was just being lazy and that you didn't need a lot of energy to lose weight. In fact, it will make me gain energy. Its one of those things you know but don't want to know.2

I was in an accident that put me in a wheelchair for 6 months and im still not able to do things like before but i realized just how much i wanted to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
You never regret going for a walk after so long of not putting weight on your own feet.
Just this week i ran for the first time in 1 1/2 yrs and i cried. Instead of it being painful and leaving me sore it felt amazing to push myself.

My boyfriend and I both recently went to the doctor and found we gained weight since dating (we were already a bit squishy) and he had higher cholesterol. I also just turned 27 and I want to hit my 30's in good health. I quit smoking last year and losing weight and exercising more is my last step in taking care of myself so he and I are working on it together. Even got a gym membership for the first time in many years!6

Oh man, so many reasons.
1. When you're 37 and decide to take up snowboarding and the only pants you can find that fit are men's large, it's a sign something needs to change.
2. Speaking of snowboarding, I did an amazing turtle impression every time I tried to go down the bunny hill. *slide down four feet* *fall over* *spend twenty minutes attempting to get back up* *spend ten minutes recovering from trying to get up* *repeat*
3. When your doctor threatens to hospitalize you because your blood pressure is too high, that's bad.
4. Hey, you know what's really hard to do when you're out of shape? Have sex.
5. Walking down the street sucks when you feel like you don't fit in where you live, because everyone is focused on being the best person they can be, and you're more focused on shoving gelato into your face hole.
6. I was really tired of not being able to be an active participant in my community due to my health.8 -
I decided to lose weight when I was 425lbs. I was the fattest person I knew. I was super unhealthy. It caused me all sorts of problems...
I think the biggest motivator to losing the weight was when I was unable to mas tur bate normally... I had to fix that. I wasn't getting any female attention and if I wasn't able to TCOB myself, then what was there left for me in life?3 -
I needed new jeans and I had to buy size 42x32. Said enough is enough. 2 months later the 42s are back on the shelf, and the 40s are loose. Migrating to the 38s I have on standby in a few days most likely, but quite yet.3

- Because I hit 5 lbs of the heaviest I've ever been on the scale again.
- Because only one pair of jeans (the "fat" pair) fits.
- Because I want to look good in a bathing suit again.
- Because I don't want to (and can't afford to) buy another larger wardrobe.
- Because I find myself wearing leggings far too often.
- Because I'm more confident when I'm 15 lbs lighter, and confidence is sexy. And confidence is good for my work ethic. And confidence makes me feel good about myself!2 -

For me, it was stepping out of the shower. I walked in front of the mirror, only to find myself completely disgusted with what I allowed myself to become. It was then that I decided I had to make a change, and fast. If I kept up with what I was doing, I wouldn't live very long, I just knew it. Not sure if it was the next day or the day after, but not long after that realization did I start my diet.0

There was no LIGHT BULB MOMENT for me.
I have always been fat.
I was always on a diet!!!
What did happen. Was the realisation that DIETS DON'T WORK!
In that moment my love life changed.
I realised that...THIS IS FOREVER .
That I had to crawl, then take baby steps, then walk, then start taking strides.
This mindset was my life changing moment.5 -

That's awesome. I was 63 before I fully realized my way of eating, moving and thinking was leading to my premature death. Now I am working to learn how to live to be 110 walking and talking the entire time.5 -
I weighed 135 at age 35 and was a runner. Got injured and was no longer able to run. Now at age 56 and 200lbs, I said that is enough when my grandson said I was fat. My goal is 175. When hit that, I will see if I need to go lower because I am also weight training.1

I had tried everything under the sun for years, some worked for a while but my gain aha moment was weighing the same weight I was full term pregnant after my son was 2 years old. I had gained 40 pounds and did not have the energy to play with him like a mommy should. At least now I have taken off that extra weight and more importantly I feel healthier.4
