Why did you come to the conclusion to lose weight?

I didn't have one for the longest time. I was 360+ lbs when I was in my early 20's. I actually thought I was A LOT smaller than I was. Like I would see a size 22 and I would think my size 28 -30 *kitten* was smaller than theirs. I was confident and honestly my weight didn't really hold me back from much, jobs, boyfriends, happiness.
I lost some weight randomly, I honestly didn't know how weight was lost or gained. I got pregnant and around 4 months after her birth I was walking up to my moms (10 minute walk) and it was a cool night and I was sweating and breathing so hard. I saw myself in a shop window and I was floored. I thought it can't be good to be this pooped from such a short walk. I have a baby to be around for. I started to learn how to lose weight and went on to lose 100+ lbs.
I got pregnant with my second and basically ate anything I wanted. I know now, looking back, that I restricted way too much and used pregnancy as an excuse to eat everything I normally wouldn't.
Now I have two babies and a husband to be better for, but most importantly, I WANT to be healthy for me. I am always learning and using what I learn to be better.5 -
I love reading everyone's comments. Cheers to continued happy healthy lives.2

Definitely knew by my clothes and the development of rolls on my back. Kept telling myself I’d get serious tomorrow. Finally weighed myself and it was the highest ever. Lost all desire to eat poorly, drink alcohol or wait another day to hit the gym or run. Here I am.5

My BMI has never been anything but normal until one day I checked it again and realized I had gained about 25 pounds. Because I’m 4’11” I think the weight looks like a lot more than 25 pounds. When I met my husband over 3 years ago I was a size 2 pants and a small top and now I don’t even know what pant size I am because nothing fits and I just wear leggings. And my top size is in between medium/large but the sleeves are never right because I’m so short.
And a lot of my self confidence is gone.3 -
At age 51, almost overnight, it seemed, I had gained 36 lbs in about 4 years ! I could not stand what I saw in the mirror.
Now age 59. And I have dropped 49 lbs. Thanks to MFP and learning portion control/nutrition. Seeing my collar bone again for the first time again was amazing !2 -
It was for my healths sake.0

My kick in the butt was, getting the results of a blood glucose screening, and seeing what my waist measurements were. 2 months ago my doctor warned me that I was borderline diabetic. I decided to try Keto as I know several people who not only lost weight, but lowered their bp
and blood sugar levels. Down 24lbs, 1clothing size, and blood sugar, and bp are in the normal range. I am a carb j

Every time I would visit the document he would bring it up. So a few months ago I had a doctor visit and this time I came prepared with a 30-day plan. After those 30 days, I felt wonderful and I looked great in my clothes which gave me the courage to keep on keeping on....6

I’ve been right on the edge of the plus size department for a while now. Got a new dress the other day and needed an 18/20, weighed and was over 200 lbs. I just don’t want to do it anymore. I want to change my habits and be healthier. I’m tired of hating pictures taken of me, too. I’m just over being fat.4

I notice my boss lost weight, she told me about my fitness pal and how she lost 20lbs. She said it was easy, besides I'm diabetic and need to lose weight for my blood sugar to be normal1

Pretty sure I've posted in this thread before, but I come back to it often to read it and nod my head in recognition of other people's reasons. I find it helps to give me a kick in the butt when I've fallen off the wagon.
My latest reason - my 5 year old nephew made a comment that I was round and his mum and dad were straight. He's not yet learnt to describe people as fat and thin. But it still made me wince inside. All I could do was agree with him because he is right. I am round. His mum and dad are straight. Can't escape these facts!2 -
- I had to start standing with my feet on schoulderwidth in order for my thighs not to touch. Because of my wide hips I never had that before and it felt really uncomfortable.
- Sitting became really uncomfortable.
- I had to buy a size 42/XL pants (German sized). Always having been a skinny girl that was a tough moment to me.
- I started to have fat under my chin. It was a confrontation every time I looked at myself in the mirror while brushing teeth.
- I started feeling insecure about myself and unhappy in my own skin.
I didn't really have a lightbulb moment, but was just fed up with it all one day and decided I needed to make a change.2 -
For me it was a family reunion. Saw the pictures and couldn't believe I looked that big. I don't see it looking in the mirror (of course it's not a full length mirror LOL)2

Sick of being the biggest one in the room (almost)......whether work or family and I was just a little over 200lbs! Just do not want to feel out of place anymore!2

My body is objectively unattractive and it hurts my self-esteem. I love how skinny girls look as long as they don't go too far.1

My aha moment was when I realised it started to hurt when I was walking and also how when a guy I liked said he thought I was pretty but it would look sooooo much better if I was X amount lighter. Decided to ditch him and attempt to ditch this weight!10

On Christmas, I got a look at myself in a full-length mirror, naked, for the first time in years. I couldn't believe what I looked like. This has got to stop.3

I guess my AH HA moment is when I got out of breath just doing normal activities with my family. I know we are not a very active family, but I want to do more than sit around and play video games. I want to be outside making memories, going places, doing things. I know it is ok to have some down days, but not every single day. I want the kids to remember that time we hiked that trail and seen that waterfall. But as of now hiking that trail is a “hold on while I catch my breath, can you slow down so I can catch up, can we take a break “ That is not what I want. So here I am !!!!9

when i realized i'm not too far from what my goal is and if i work hard for a few months i can look exactly how i want.4

My 3 year old daughter drew a picture of my family.... One stick figure for mum, one stick figure each for my 4 children and a circle with fingers and feet for me...12

I had two moments, really.
When I hit 215lbs without realizing it after I started a desk job and after my dad passed away. Stress eating and losing myself in Youtube after work was my coping method of choice.
And when I was made a bridesmaid in my best friend's wedding. I tried on the dress and I was honestly horrified by how I looked in the mirror.
There have been some setbacks - It's been hard to remember that it's a marathon, not a sprint - but nine months and 15 lbs later, I feel much better about myself and so much healthier.4 -
I was at work and I put my hands on my waist not because I was upset; but because I was warming my muffin top. Then I got real sad and said, “I need to go to the gym.”4

Damaged my back couldn't exercise couldn't get into my clothes and cried for weeks lol2

Saw the worst photo I ever saw of myself. I hated it. Made me reassess what I’m doing: emotionally, with nutrition, my sports training, and whytheF this is an issue.2

Had kidney stones couldn't fit in the ultrasonic machine to break them had surgery for them spent 6 days in hospital because of complications mainly due to weight. Got tired of being out of breath doing simple things figured I would really try and now 100+ lighter and plan on going some more.11

Discomfort with how it felt when my boyfriend would grab me in pretty much any way near my torso. I'm down 14 pounds and we both feel the difference! I've also been trying to lose weight for 5 years because after my depo shot, I gained 30lbs instantly and learned I had pretty drastic fibro. Was likely to end up in a wheel chair or atleast physical therapy if I didn't become more active or lose weight.2
