February Running Challenge

@italysharon I do full body strength training twice a week, and squats/lunges/deadlifts are a big part of it. The soreness goes away eventually, I no longer get it, unless I take a long break from lifting. I truly think strengthening my thighs, hamstring and gluteus helped improving my running. As much as I love running, I do enjoy weight lifting and at times really looking forward to it.
@johnsonnelly @shanaber @skippygirlsmom @beaches1960 Way to go, ladies! Congrats on reaching your goal during this short month! Onto the next challenge
My better half gave a very nice Valentines Day gift: he cut out a picture of running shoes from one of my old RW magazines, put it in a card, and said "You pick your shoes, I pick up the bill" So I will be getting a nice bright pair of kicks to match everyone's here
OK back to business. My last run of the month, since we are traveling tomorrow, and then it's March!
2/1 = 6.5 miles
2/3 = strength training
2/4 = 6.5 miles

I do it on a treadmill though, so for some, it may not be "qualified" miles/time.
Thus far, I've run about 33 miles this month as compared to rowed about 144 miles. Both numbers will go up before Feb is done.
130 out of 161 of my February miles were treadmill. Running is running!!
Thanks for this and all the others that chimed in with the same sort of remarks! Much appreciated.
My Feb. miles are 36.75 miles0 -

Thanks that's the best compliment I have had all year.
No running right now of any type-sprained ankle skiing injury.
Not from the hill. Not from the Pub.
Loading the suitcase in the car and stepped on what was the only loose piece of ice and went for a ride.
Isn't that the way? Can't be from anything 'fun'. Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!0 -
italysharon wrote: »Question: For those of you who lift weights as well as run, do you only do upper body, or do you also do squats, lunges, etc…? I am so sore! I'm finding it hard to add miles with strength training (I haven't marked anything here other than running…and skiing but I also do strength and a few other things). TIA!

Everyone got me wanting new shoes! My boss gave me a $120 gift card to Fleet Feet and I have a coupon from a run and I think a gift from a run so I think I need to head down there on Saturday0

@skippygirlsmom, @shanaber, @Runningmischka …maybe the 1 1/2 week off (kids school break) lifting did it for me because this week my legs are on fire! I do pump at the gym, it is a good one, with squats, lunges, dead lifts…full body 2X a week. Hopefully I will adjust soon :-) What doesn't kill you…. right? lol
On another note: I'm done! I didn't want to get on the treadmill at all this morning, procrastinated, was only going to do 1-2 miles, but ended up finishing the last 5 1/2… so tomorrow is a rest day, then on to March! woo hoo!
Congratulations to everyone who made a goal and ran this month!

Ugh! Sick again which equals day 3 of forced rest. I should still reach my goal based on tomorrow's run but certainly should have hit more mileage. My official goal for March should be not to get sick. Is that even possible?
Great job to everyone! I love seeing everyones accomlishments.0 -

HealthyFocused715 wrote: »Congrats!! That's a great time!! I can't believe you were able to pull that off with knee pain! So happy to hear it didn't hurt during the actual race...what do you attribute that to? Adrenaline?
I think taking the extra few rest days earlier in the week did a good job of getting it close to back to healthy (before I did it in from the race). Still, going into the race, the plan was to take a pulse 1 mile in and either pull out, or go for it. Not sure if the adrenaline was part of it, but I really didn't feel that bad on the course, and it only started aching when I finished.
Taking 5 days off from running to help it fully recover, but putting in about 220 miles on the bike this week, giving my 8 mile pace run a shot tomorrow, and my 17 mile long run a try on Sunday if I don't feel any residual soreness by then.0 -

Kinda underset my goal this month (along with being crazy enough to keep running!). But March will be harder since I've having surgery on the 6th, and will be down for at least a week (they say 2-3 weeks, but I'm stubborn) and only walking for awhile to get built back up.
