What nobody tells you about losing weight

In order of apparition (as in... "found the silly little buggers!"):
- collarbones
- hipbones
- cheekbones
- ribs
- vertebrae (discovered those the other day when I was leaning against the wall in the break room. Bloody uncomfortable!)
Any other bones I need to be aware of? Although it's fun randomly discovering bones, it does tend to come at pretty annoying moments...

I'm becoming more and more obsessed with my hip bones because every day they feel more prominent.
I also really like to feel my muscles... which sounds weird. but my arms... feel so strong and I love the muscle. I just want to touch it... or my legs!!!! omg they're suddenly so defined! when did that happen!!! I just want to flex them and feel the muscle!!!!
I feel like a weirdo just wandering around looking for reasons to feel myself up lol
My breastbone is the one that really freaks me out still. It's just plain weird. And scapula, which I most notice now sitting on hard chairs (with backs). Truly, I cannot believe how uncomfortable boney things are.
my tailbone also kills me! I never realized how uncomfortable my work chair was or any other hard surface until my tailbone started hitting!
I still can't feel my breastbone...too much going on up top for that I think.5 -
that people think you are hiding a big secret on how your are loosing weight. I was asked and I said I hike or walk daily and stopped eating sugar and wheat (do to health issues) and started counting calories they looked at me like"whatever fine don't tell me"30

Truth! The tailbone gets a vote for "Uncomfortable Bone Award" from me, too. My hips aren't uncomfortable, but those are pretty freaky as well. At first they just stuck out in the front, but now they can be seen from other angles. I am aware that I have a skeleton. That just isn't right.14 -

One thing that nobody told me about losing weight, and I wouldn't have believed them if they had, was that I would one day love running and exercising in general. I have never been athletic and I never really found a sport or activity that I loved. I used to do aerobics and I liked it well enough, but never loved it and it was always easy to find an excuse not to do it. Now I do yoga every week day morning. And honestly I sometimes do it on the weekends too because I love it so much. I started out walking daily which I still love, but when I hit maintenance I decided that I needed some fitness goals since I no longer had a weight loss goal. So I decided to give c25k a shot. Surprisingly I really enjoyed it and actually looked forward to my running days. After I completed it I decided to go ahead with c210k. I cannot believe how much I look forward to my run days. I spend the whole day thinking about it and on the few times when the weather has been really bad and I had to reschedule my run I was so disappointed. I guess I never knew how good it would feel to be physically fit.
Welcome to the Sisterhood of What, Me, Love Running? I had a really hard choice to make between running my C210K and getting my garden ready for spring today. I saw the bulbs coming up and was worried I might be missing wildflowers out on the trail. It was a really tough choice since I've always loved gardening. The garden won, but just barely.
I guess mine would be that I would have to make tough choices about which outdoor activity I would like to do today, instead of which show I would like to marathon on Netflix.27 -
My knees are bony now, makes for an uncomfortable night sleep. People are *kind* enough to point out how hugely, enormously, monstrously FAT I used to be, some aren't that sweet about it. That one still hurts, way more than the knees ever will..by being 'more', I was somehow worth much less.

Honestly, my weight did not seem to fluctuate with my cycle or after eating a very high sodium meal back when I was 200 to 245 lbs. Now, I only lose weight two weeks per month because of TOM water weight gain.
I have the exact same problem. 3 pounds of water gain the week before that it takes two weeks to lose. *le sigh*

That half the time I still see the fat girl in the mirror. My self esteem is all over the board, but I'm definitely harder on 150 pound me then I was on 205 pound me.32

Ive actually gone the other way - since hitting the gym my thighs have gotten bigger, and now I find I need pants with bigger leg holes or else I feel like the circulation to my feet is cut off...
Same! Pants used to be too baggy in the legs and too tight at the waist, now it's the opposite. Pants will fit loosely around the waist, yet too tight around my legs/gluyhxfsttes.
These are my goals!! LOL!! I WANT bigger
legs and a smaller waist!! "Recctangle shape" woes lol.....lost the weight, so lost all over (basically).. built/uncovered some muscles, so a decent looking size, not just "little".... but squating, lunging, thrusting and stepping for my LIFE to build some shape back... it's coming along thankfully. Isn't that the truth! If I had cared as much before I never would have gained so much weight! It's strange how aggravated I am about areas of my body now, that I just ignored before.13 -

I never thought I would love the fitness aspect of it so much either. When I got sidetracked with my diet, I still worked out regularly. I choose between lifting weights and boxing, sometimes it's a tough choice, I enjoy both so much. If it's nice outside, I throw walking into the mix...choices are good thought.9 -

I've been thinking this spring that I might want to try C25K. I have noticed just in general that I am much more active, which isn't something I set out to be. It isn't just physical activity, specifically, it's also just more socially active. I spend much more time out and about, even if it's just by myself, and also a lot more time out with friends than I used to. Last night I had planned to have a nice evening curled up on the couch (wasn't feeling super great because ToM) but after making dinner and showering I decided to take myself on a date to the bookstore and spent an hour and a half there wandering around by myself looking at things (also bought a few things). Before I definitely would have chosen to stay on the couch all night.23 -
that as I loose weight I need more intense exercise to get the same benifit but my joints aren't up for it. example walking and hiking need to be replaced with jogging but knee can't do it.10

I've had a few people tell me "you look great" and I'm not even 50% of the way to my goal. Great to get some random encouragement even though there's still plenty of work to do!27

i knew it would be harder to remove armpit hair, but i did not know that my calves would have the same issue. I've been running 3 times a week for the past 9 months and my calves have become quite muscular. So i was trying to shave my legs today, and as i was stretching my calves ,part of them "collapsed" on the inside (not sure how to describe it, lol)due to the flex motion i guess.It's hard to shave that "collapsed" part.10

Agree with all those who have mentioned always feeling cold, finding bones you didn't realise were there and the disbelief when you tell people that you just ate less/better and moved more. Any time I say that I always get asked 'but did you have to cut out XYZ?'.
Also was not prepared for how much better I feel in general and how I would always pick the option/route that involves more walking.10 -

Taking control of my health, of my body and making it what it is today has taken an immense amount of work. It does hurt that my own mother wont acknowledge it. she always tells me how nice other people look. I always take note she never tells me I look nice. Actually, no one ever tells me I look nice. Its almost as if to my family I've become invisible.40 -
How angry I get when I see an overweight person complain they need to lose weight then stuff their face. I know it's a projection of who I used to be, but I feel if I can struggle through it, so can they. Complaining gets you nowhere. I hope someday they will be ready to make the changes they need in their life.23

You can walk/hike with a pack - but your knees might reject that, too. I use the elliptical... like jogging/running - but with no pounding on the joints. Good luck!8 -

I hear about how many ex-smokers are the most abusive of smokers in public. I won't be that person, but I understand them. It's not that I am all slim and trim (yet) but even overweight I didn't fail to acknowledge my faults and contribution to my issue.17 -
Shopping becomes more difficult because I can't eyeball clothes that might fit me. Also it's usually a toss-up between buying something that fits perfect now, or buying something a little too small for later. Either way it'll be donated soon enough! I also never thought I'd reallyyyy dislike the look of baggy clothes on me. Makes me feel even bigger!20

^^^ at places like MFP (or a WW meeting) there are genuine people who are supportive and do care about your goal of reaching a healthy weight.

Have you considered the pool? I try and go to a deep water running class about once a week. I love doing a variety of activities and find that the water class is a good workout while still giving my joints a rest for that day.

I've taken to shopping in the second hand stores, this way I can find things that fit but also that I will not mind parting with when I shrink because I didn't spend a ton on them 6
