What nobody tells you about losing weight

You'll get sick of explaining how you did it and how much more you want to lose. Today I am anyway because it means raised eyebrows and scepticism followed by lectures on how carb reductions the only thing that will really work blaaaa blaaaa blah20

I've gotten that lecture once.
My reply? "I didn't cut out anything I didn't want to cut out. I just had to find space for what I wanted in my calorie budget."
"Well, if you don't cut carbs-"
"Let me show you my log." Five minutes later. "Science. It works, *kitten*!"21 -
No one ever told me - how much less I buy at the grocery.
A trip to the grocery used to include impulse items and stocking up on sale items that were regularly used in my house. That model is not working any more. Impulse items are rarely worth the calories from my budget and I just don't need to stock up. Last week the grocery had Helmans Mayo BOGO. DH told me not to purchase it because he just opened a new jar and he didn't want it to sit on a shelf for a year. Now I rarely use canned soup as part of a recipe but used to regularly incorporate "Cream of ____" soups. So I'll buy soup on sale but I don't "stock up." I am trying to use up the old stuff in my pantry and freezer and there is still a lot to go.
Part of this is still learning to go from feeding four to feeding two as the kids have moved out. We still buy protein in bulk and freeze it. I will cook a full recipe, because that means I am cooking dinner for at least two nights as we like leftovers. But the overall sheer volume of food is so much less.
I stock up on different things now. Frozen vegetables. Lean cuts of meat... Pork loin was $0.99/lb this week, and boneless skinless chicken breasts $1.99/lb last week, for example. I bought a lot of Creamette 150 pasta at $1/box, too.9 -
The instant panic id get when i looked at scale today nd had hit 100 pounds gone... i know it was just a 3 pound water whoosh and itl come back but for some reason it made me feel.....weird...and scared....and made me realize this weigh loss is almost over and then the hard part of recomp comes...and i suddenly felt 235 pounds again... this was all just a cruel dream...and if its real i have so far to still go nd so much to figure out about recomp...

I agree with this, but right now I have so much already stocked up that I am trying to eat it down.
I know... First World problems.8 -
That I would be such a huge hypocrite to myself. I was always the one that said I would never enjoy running. But the more I run, the more I want to see how far I can go. I also said I'd never give up my favorite meals, but as I've started to eat healthier, they are no longer my favorite meals. I don't crave the fried and fattening meals that I used to frequent.28

So yes to this - It really gets to me at times. Explaining people, including that it has taken me over three years. The the denial that it can't be that simple to the point wheren they just about accuse you of lying. *sigh* people -- gotta love them, but some of them Not so much9 -

That's why I don't share my goals. What's it to them? And a lot of smiling and nodding. Funny how heavier people sometimes have a lot of advice on nutrition and weight loss.13 -

Earlier today I took my children to the park and the only place to sit down was on a swing. Wasn't sure if I'd fit on it, as it's been a long time . . .
So I sat on the swing. And I fit, with room to spare. Then I started to swing, because, naturally, that is what you do on a swing. Then I was swinging higher than my children were. It was terrific fun. My children either thought that I was completely mad, or that I was a really cool mum. Or possibly both. And the swing survived
I find I now LOVE to do "childish" things. They're so much fun! and I'm all about doing anything that I find fun and enjoy even if that means swinging on the swing or running around catching Pokemon. I'm gonna do what makes me happy and what I enjoy!14 -

Great job at hitting the 100 lbs loss, young lady. Sorry about the negative thoughts, but I'm confident you'll keep it off and get rid of the parts you don't want (your belly pictures remind me of Walter).6 -

For me, surprises have been:
1) I get light headed when I'm on a roll and losing weight
2) I have to remember to drink water, because if I'm used to ignoring hunger, I may also ignore thirst
3) not always having people respond positively
4) I have been amazed at how easy it is, really. The discipline is hard, but it's no mystery. There are so many lies and fads out there that I didn't think there was anything I could do that would work until I found this.
5) People lie to themselves to defend themselves. Ie "breastfeeding makes it hard to lose weight". It does make you hungrier, but breastfeeding burns calories!
6) How awesome it feels to be in control of one aspect of life
7) I've learned a LOT about nutrition that I never knew, and always assumed was too complicated. It isn't.
Yay!33 -

You look phenomenal! That extra skin will begin to "snap back" over time, I'm sure! Many of us went through having the "extra skin hang" when bending forward... time, patience, and weight lifting will offer an even better appearance soon! :-)14 -

That when I try on some of my shirts that used to be tight and have to keep pulling down will now look like a short dress..These changes continue to amaze me and how I really didn't see how unhealthy I had become.22

What nobody tells you is how annoying is vanity sizing! I don't like shopping and it's so much trouble to find something that fits properly! Gap is the worst. I don't understand how xs clothes are falling off me, when I'm not even that slim. I think bigger sizes are more consistent and smaller ones are all over the place. I love online shopping but all the hassle with figuring out your size, which is different from every brand, and then returning too big clothes is crazy.16

Lower testosterone levels, slower metabolism, constant hunger... good side.. visible veins over abs, the faces people make when you take ur shirt off, actually.. other than competitions i can't think of that many good things for being extremely ripped
I'd say the bolded is reason enough.14 -
Comments about your looks. You think you want the compliments until that's all you get and it becomes weird.29

Nobody told me i d lose 40lb and still be buying the same size clothes .... as I just dont recognise myself as thinner! Or is it that I just dont believe it!15

How flexible weight loss can be when you have alot to lose. Example: you can have a bad week of eating and still lose weight. Although this is not ideal it does happen when your body is used to losing weight. That you will realize how bad you were actually eating before and think to your self "how did I eat that much?"26

How, if I can stop focussing on food, this process gets easier.12

Nobody told me how much I would want to buy *all* the clothes now, even though I really shouldn't. I had to go to the store today to get a new outfit for an event tonight. I tried on what I was planning on wearing, and I looked ridiculous because it was so big. Anyways, when I went to try things on, I wanted to buy absolutely everything because I actually liked the way I looked in it. Knowing that I still have 20 lbs left until my goal, I left with only the new outfit for tonight.27
