It’s not all bad! I was out running Saturday at the park and passed a lady running the other direction. I was thinking, “Gosh, she must work out a lot, she looks great! I wonder what she does? She looks about my age.” And then she smiled and nodded at me like we were members of the same club. Not all women want to cut each other down!
Heavens, no! If you're out there running or walking or whatever, and I don't care what size you are, I'm glad you're there! (Also, I feel a bit safer when there's people about and I'm not just walking alone outside).

I'm also 5'9". When I am at a higher weight, it takes at least 20 lbs for me to notice in my clothes. It took 35 for me to drop a size. Once I got close to goal (the first time around... I'm back up 30 lbs), it didn't take as much. If I dropped 5 -10 lbs I noticed.
It must be a height thing. I'm 5'0", 5lbs changes how my clothes fit. 10-15lbs is a size change for sure.
I have total lost 40lbs, at 35lbs lost I'd gone from a 14 to a 4, an XL to a S/M. At 40lbs, 5 additional pounds lost, I'm now shopping for 2/XS in pants and S in shirts.
The flip side though, If I gain 15lbs, I physically can't wear my clothes anymore. I have to buy a whole new wardrobe or things just won't fit. There is just less leeway for short people. Less area to spread the weight around.
I hear you. I’m 5’4” on a good day. 10-15 lbs is at least one size. Maybe 2. I’m 128-130 now, comfortable in a 2 (a few are too big, a few too tight, 95% fit). By 135 I’m in a 4, 2s are indecently tight. By 145, it’s a 6 at least.
I threw out/donated all my 4s except 1 church dress for fat days/emergencies. So if things get bad I am living in workout clothes other than on Sunday morning. Maybe that’ll keep me on track 😆14 -
Thing that makes me smile today - it's jean week at work right now and I haven't looked good in a pair of jeans in 18 years. I seriously can't stop checking out my butt in the mirror in the bathroom. It's crazy but it makes me happy! I even wore sexy underwear underneath it all today!42

Underwear makes a difference too! I want to get some nice underwear. I'm 31 and I've never owned a pair of "cute" underwear. I've always just bought the stuff that comes in packs. I want cute underwear now!26 -

Ummm wow. Literally could have written this myself word for word. Have lost 50 lbs and currently sitting at 161. Experiencing all the same things, thoughts, and feelings. Unfortunately, I have no suggestions to help- only to say that I know how you feel and you're not alone!

Going to the movies is a different experience when your sides aren't rubbing against the arm rests for 2 hours. (It's been a long time since I felt that, I'm hoping to feel it again one day.)6

That my facial hair will reduce significantly. It has not disappeared (I am not at goal) butI need to pluck it out far less frequently. It is not as black as well.17

I was shopping with a friend at a thrift store and found a top I loved but it was a medium. I showed it to my friend she said it looks like it would fit. I've been an xxl or xl for a long time and have just recently fit into a few larges, so I thought no way. She talked me into trying it on - it fit. I bought it and refer to it as the mislabeled medium. I still have XL's that don't fit. Size differences are SUPER annoying.
When I was still 250 pounds and obese there were some pullover shirts in an XL that fit me. Now I'm 184 pounds and wear a medium or large pullover. So what's the issue, right? I bought a new pair of nice bib shorts for cycling. Guess what? They are XL - and still very snug. I'm still a big guy in the cycling world.10 -
I'm actually afraid to get rid of some of my old clothes. I keep thinking I want to keep them around because it's my indicator that I've lost the weight. At the same time, they look horrible on me and that's probably making me look bigger. It's a bit of an internal struggle, lol.15

That's probably the best thing to do. I think the most important thing is that I need to go shopping lol. I have two dresses that fit, so not enough for a work week. I think if I actually had enough clothes that fit, I would be more willing to let go of the bigger clothes. To TJ maxx and Goodwill I go!13 -

This is when I went to Good Will. The sizes are crazy there anyways. So I just started grabbing stuff that looks like it fits. Plus, you're not out a lot of money when you reach the official next size.
The small clothes that you save "for when you lose weight" might not always fit still. I am now finding out what clothes were waiting for their moment to be worn, and which ones were just ill fitting from the get go and need to be gotten rid of.14 -

I had a tshirt I bought on sale couple of years ago that was too tight, but kept it for when I'd lose weight. I brought out spring/summer clothes yesterday and tried stuff on. That shirt I'd been keeping for 3 years fits now but I hate the way it looks, just doesn't hang right. I can finally put it in the goodwill pile without reservation. There were also things I bought at the end of the season last year that were super tight but figured they'd fit this spring. Now they're too big!!! I ain't mad though, they were either thrift store buys or super cheap.1 -

I do a lot of hiking/backpacking and my hiking pants are expensive (usually $65 or more per pair). When I lost 27 pounds a few years ago I kept most of my now-too-big hiking pants and am glad I did. When I gained about 10 pounds back, I needed those pants! Glad I didn’t have to go buy new ones while I focused on losing the weight again. My hiking pants range from size 6 to size 12.

I've spent most of my lunch reading this thread and must say that there are so many of these things that I can completely relate to already and so many others that I am most definitely looking forward to!
We've been late to a few events in the last few months because I refused to skip my workouts so my boyfriend has been telling our friends that they need to meet the new man in my life ... "Gym"20 -

I know exactly what you mean! I keep hopping on the scales just to make sure the number there is correct. Bought a Fitbit because I want to keep seeing that my resting heart rate is lower than it once was. Crazy.0 -

Now that I can do things that I had to stop doing years ago I have to be more careful not to overdo it now since my body is 68. Being able to tell the health care professionals now I am Rx Med free sometimes blow their minds. That is a cool thing in my mind.33

That two nights of eating salty peanuts and pretzels at game nights would shoot you back into “overweight” BMI faster than you can yell Bunco!!!!22

That being able to tie a hoodie around your waist still surprises me after a year and a half! hehe no longer do I worry about, 'what if I gets too warm and I have to carry my hoodie, ugh effort'. Just tie it round my waist and carry on!23

The fat seems to re-distribute. At least it did for me. When I lost my 20lbs of weight, my butt was much smaller, stomach still poochy, and boobs totally deflated. Several months later of maintenance, my boobs have filled back in a bit, and my stomach seems less poochy. So there's hope that all the wierd places you're* losing will balance out.

I had the same thing happen when I lost my big weight (75 pounds). I thought I looked good when I hit goal but a few months later I noticed I had a "gut" again - albeit a much smaller "gut" than the party ball I had before.9 -

I catch myself with this. It see the pooch and think "aw man, still poochy! dangit!" then I remember, it's not sitting on my thighs when I use the rest room anymore, lol. The pooch waxes and wanes it seems for me. If I'm slacking on working it, it starts coming back. Probably due to muscle tone then fat, but I'm not sure.10
