sorry for being quiet. I've been lurking and drooling over the idea of blackberries. Too early in the season here, but looking forward to being scratched (and stung - ours usually grow next to nettles). blackberry and apple crumble....

I have managed to get out on the bike a couple of times - I rejigged a saddlebag support to fit in the idea that sometime I might do a bit of light touring rather than just bombing along the towpath. Last night was a bit of a race as the sun was beginning to set and rather stupidly I had forgotten to bring any food or money and was STARVING!!

so far this month - pitiful walking miles:

    Cycling - 41/80 miles
    Walking - 5/50 miles
    Swim - 16/100 laps
    Stronglifts 5X5 - 0/6 times
Lindy Hop class - 0/4 times

    Total mileage - 46/130 miles.

camping this weekend with some Lindy friends so may try and fit in some walking (to the pub probably....)

good to see everyone is ACTIVE!!!

@Machka9 - your Canada trip sounded fantastic. I must go back and visit my sister out there one summer (went in Winter last time. you know it's cold when your nostril hairs start to freeze......)

@Machka9, I'm big enough to admit that I had to Google 7° Celsius to see what it is Fahrenheit... 44°! Oh that sounds positively lovely!!!! My car said 103° yesterday at 3:00!! That is ludicrous stuff... And I finally took the time to view your pix from your trip to Canada. I'm officially green with envy. I want to go there!!! Did you bring some of those Cherry Blossoms home? I could use a couple of those right about now. :) And a couple of shots had lots of folks wearing all white. What was that about? Some kind of ceremony, I assume? Looks like you had a splendid time indeed!

@girlinahat, I'm with you. My walking miles are looking terrible this month. I think I might lower my goal... I started Strong Curves by Bret Contreras and it's taking most of my lunch hour to get the workout completed. This is when I usually get most of my walking in... However, I'm not complaining. Not in the least. Just sharing. :)

@jeanniewes, blackberry jelly and blackberry syrup are my FAVORITES! I'm quite partial to mayhaw as well, but I LOVE blackberry!

Hey guys, it's the weekend!!! Yippee for Fridays!

    26.5 total miles

It feels really cold here compared with what we had in Canada. We went cycling today, and I'm quite chilled. Not used to deciding what to wear!!

I didn't bring any Cherry Blossoms home ... but I had 4 of them while we were there.

And the white-dressed people was a Diner en Blanc in Victoria
    http://victoria.dinerenblanc.info/about

We had to ask about it, but these Diner en Blancs occur all over the world, and were started in Paris.

To quote the About section on the site I linked above ...

"At the last minute, the location is given to thousands of friends and acquaintances who have been patiently waiting to learn the “Dîner en Blanc's” secret place. Thousands of people, dressed all in white, and conducting themselves with the greatest decorum, elegance, and etiquette, all meet for a mass “chic picnic” in a public space.

Over the course of an evening, the diners enhance the function and value of their city's public space by participating in the unexpected.
Beyond the spectacle and refined elegance of the dinner itself, guests are brought together from diverse backgrounds by a love of beauty and good taste.
Le Dîner en Blanc recalls the elegance and glamour of court society, and diners engage one another knowing they are taking part in a truly magical event.
There are no disruptions: no car traffic, no pedestrian traffic, except for the occasional amazed and astonished looks from passersby at the scene unfolding before them. And we, as they, wonder whether it's all not a dream…"

We thought it was fascinating, and I wish they would occur in our city. :)

Goal this month. Running one mile, 3 times a week, consistently. I'm getting close! Was able to run a mile twice last week, plus a 3/4 mile.

Hey guys I'm late to the game but maybe I could join in for the second half of the month? I'm trying to change the way I see exercise from just a calorie burner (usually best used for justifying extra chocolate) to a daily and necessary part of my life to manage stress, non-weight health issues and occasionally get some time without the kiddos.

Goal for remainder of july: 20 miles

welcome @homemademama, great reasons for joining in - me, I don't calorie count because I tend to eat more if I do, so making myself MOVE more on a daily basis makes me pay attention to all areas of my life which include eating. being more active means being healthier, rather than being a means to have extra calories!!!

My weekend was fabulous. The weather held out (putting up a tent hearing lightning is odd.....) and we lazed around, played a bit of frisbee/juggling/touch the tree with your feet from the swing in the woods challenge, went for a walk, enjoyed the sun by the river running through the property, camped, ate BBQ food, drank WAY too much cider, beer, Pimms, limoncello and finally managed a dance or two. Just so nice, except yesterday was so shattered it was all I could do to lie prostate on the sofa watching Djokovic beat Federer.

    so far:

    Cycling - 41/80 miles
Walking - 15/50 miles - probably half of those miles come from steps from dancing in a slightly frenzied mad manner to swing/folk/country tunes.
    Swim - 16/100 laps
    Stronglifts 5X5 - 0/6 times
Lindy Hop class - 0/4 times

    Total mileage - 56/130 miles.
