Sure I will keep CONTINUING weighing and counting my food. I am not gaining weight now, how many times do I need to say it.
Also, yes, added sugar and anything sweet, because yes, retarded me knows there is other kinds of sugars.
Also, I like Neil deGrasse Tysson, but limited knowledge of medical conditions like yourself, doesn't make things not true.
And to the person messaging me trying to make me look even more stupid by stating they aren't aware that pro badminton exists, I just want to say, you look pretty stupid if you would just google and see that badminton was one of the sports in the last Olympics. No need to get nasty!
So if you're weighing and accurately counting your calories now, and aren't gaining or losing, you're eating at maintenance.
When you gained that weight before, you were eating at a surplus. Period.
If you intend to lose, you then know what to do, yes? Since you're accurately weighing and counting calories? We can drop the mystery medical condition you seem to wish you might have?0 -

I'm not American, I know what a normal portion size is. I grew up in Sweden where people are a normal size and live a very healthy lifestyle.
Why I don't give a number of calories I am eating is because I don't always eat the same amount to one calorie every day.
That nasty little dig was unnecessary. Since you're obviously overweight yourself, there's no need to feign superiority. If you refuse to give even a range of calories, then best of luck to you. You're going to need it.

If you are weighing your food and logging it, congratulations! You know how much you're eating and you can reduce this amount to begin losing weight (if you'd like).0 -

2.) CICO being explained a million times (thank you all for willing to help someone with good advice even if they don't want to hear it).

So earlier this week I ate ~1500 calories one day. Then a few days of 1800. Then a day at 2700, which in the scheme if things is fine because that was my maintenance calories for the day. Then I was back to 1500-1800 after that.
Oh my gosh, that wasn't so hard, was it? And I knew the answers off the top of my head because not only do I know what calories I eat, I know what my calorie needs in fact are. And I can track them. It also seems like my calorie needs change based on my workouts and aging a few years. What worked for me once isn't guaranteed to work exactly the same next time.

Whatever you're doing, OP, is right on. Don't listen to these people suggesting that you're eating more and you should weigh and measure your food intake because, phshaw, weight gain can't be as simple as eating too much food.

So what the OP came looking for wasn't advice from those who have and/or are successfully losing weight with and without medical conditions (mysterious or otherwise) but wanted to be told they have the only mysterious medical condition in the world that makes physics not do physics any more!
If you are weighing and measuring and logging then you'd be able to tell us what your average weekly gross calorie intake is. You could tell us how many calories you think you're burning through exercise and you cold tell us how many of those calories you are eating back. Your net intake could then be worked out. It would be pretty easy to then see if you are in fact in a deficit, maintenance or a surplus.
You know, we could actually help but you seem intent to keep doing what you're doing hoping that there's an as yet undiscovered in the history of medicine medical condition that causes you to gain weight whilst eating at a deficit.
And people wonder why the forums aren't always warm fluffy places.
Edited to add. I'm British. But I suppose we're all too fat now to know what a portion size is too. No fat people in Sweden apparently.............0 -

OP, what are your complicating factors? What medications are you on? How old are you? How tall are you? What's your current weight?
What's your current caloric intake range?
See, the thing is, people who genuinely want help usually answer these questions.
Please, just take the chip off your shoulder, eat some humble pie and buckle down to lose the weight. It's not hard. The hardest part is admitting that ... no, you're not doing everything right.
This sounds harsh, but it's not meant to be. Your problem would be so easy to solve. So many people like you come to these boards and are just putting blinders so they can't see their way clear to such easy solutions to where things have gone wrong for them.0 -

Of course I check exactly how much I eat, I prepare my portions for every meal each day. I don't just throw random things into a smoothie.
I wrote this post to see if there is anyone with medical conditions who have had a hard time or some who have gone through something similar.

I've lost weight rapidly before even by only cutting sugar entirely, so it isn't only calories, even though that is what I am usually doing, with fat, protein and carb in mind as well, as well as I haven't logged my food for two weeks now as I have also mentioned.
Also, I haven't gained weight for awhile now, I said it was when I did extensive workouts last summer, now my weight just isn't dropping.
How do you make out that if you eat a specific diet, no exercise and maintain weight. Then you add exercise and no loss in weight.
There have been times my coach has told me I need to eat more when I have almost fainted after 4 hours training, because I've only taken in liquid nutrition.
It isn't just as simple as in and out. I do high performance sports and it is hard to find a balance, especially if you get sick from food constantly.
Anyway thanks for all the same messages, I think we can stop it here.
@mccindy72 great that is works for you. I have just started with those restrictions and I am constantly bad and get even worse when I go exercising. Still trying to adjust it.
You are searching for a medical condition and are trying to avoid the obvious answer that you are eating too much. You are not going to find it because it does not exist. You are eating more than you are burning.
I have hypothyroidism - this does not override the basic principle of CICO. It simply means I need to eat a bit less and move more. It is that simple unless you are actively searching for an excuse for it not to be.0 -

I think she's saying that cutting 500 a day would put her at 1000, which means she's saying that she's not losing at 1500 despite her 17+ hours of cardio per week.

Thank you. I'm a lot older than you and likely shorter and probably weigh less going on how much you have left to lose and I eat around there (1400-1700), and I lose, so let's look at some other factors.
- Do you use a food scale?
- Do you log your food in grams?
- Do you log all your food including oil used in cooking?
- Do you log vegetables?

So, could you open your diary to help us get a sense of how closely you're coming to that goal and the entries used to record your intake? Most of the time, I find that lack of proper logging is the answer to most of these "Why am I not losing" threads.0 -

So two things
1) just because food comes in bigger sizes in America doesn't mean they don't know what a portion size is . . . they're just not following it - large (no pun intended) difference.
2) I live in Canada where we have a rather large (also no pun intended lol) obesity rate as well, so no need for these kinds of statements when this issue does not just happen in the US
Whether you know a portion size or not, if you don't follow it then it doesn't make a difference. Sure, you can know a portion size of whatever but if you eat the equivalent of 5 portions you're not helping yourself.
It's will power to follow portion sizes that matters, not knowing how big a portion size is. I know I should only have one or two timbits because that's a portion . . . if I feel like it, there's nothing stopping me from eating 10 of them.
Also - how are you gaining weight if you are constantly sick from food? When I get sick, I don't wanna eat anything. I had the flu in May and I dropped about 10 lbs in a week . . . if it's anything like that how are you actually gaining? And, even if you are able to eat something but you're sick . . . your body wouldn't necessarily have time to absorb the nutrients and calories from the food before you got sick . . . I'm confused - something is fishy about this.
Are you looking for the eat more, dear validation here? Or it's totally all muscle gains? #demgainz . . . like I'm not sure what you want. How can you only gain that much when you're working out "extensively"? So many people have given you really solid, valid advice to try and you're refuting everything. If you already know the answer, why did you post? If you already know you're a more special snowflake than anyone else here . . . why are you asking?
So serious question for anyone - is badminton really a high performance sport? Like I know it's harder than it looks, and I definitely don't have the coordination to do it . . . but really, is it? I'm not trying to belittle it at all . . . this is a serious question.
If that's the case, then aren't almost all sports considered high performance in some way?0
