Hi! I would like to join this challenge. I just started walking. I am going to have the goal of 150 miles. Right now I am using my iPhone to record steps. Does anyone know how many steps equal a mile?
  • Approximately 2000 steps per mile but that depends on the person of course

WELCOME fanncy0626! :) According too my Pedometer it depends on how wide your step is. If you don't have anything too help calculate that then it would only be a guess. 150 miles is a LOT unless you are use too doing it. I have done a bit over 130 miles before but mostly I'm always under 120. IF I get in 4 miles daily that would give me 120 miles in 30 days. Some days I make 4 miles. Some days I am less. Some days I am way more. I guess the question is "Are you use too walking?"

I think the default number of steps per mile is 2,000, but it does depends on your stride. 150 miles is an ambitious goal, BUT if you do the recommended 10,000 steps per day then perfectly doable!!

FINALLY got out on the bike, and boy did it show!!! Really struggled at times, just shows me that come dreary winter days there's nothing for it but to get to the gym and keep riding.

    My totals so far:
    Totals
    Cycling - 14/ 60 miles
    Walking - 19.5/40 miles
    Swim - 100 laps
    Lindy Hop class - 2/ 4 times

    Total mileage target - 33.5/ 100 miles

Jeannie and Michelle thanks for the feedback. I am not used to walking every day and I guess I would be walking around 5 miles every day to reach my goal. I recently moved to a house located on two main bike/walking trails in MN the Heartland and Paul Bunyan trails. I retired 3 years ago from teaching 8th graders and found it difficult to transition and became a couch potato! Since last October I joined MFP and the ladies over 50 thread and some of them walk 10,000 to 20,000 steps. I saw your thread and what you people are doing so you motivated me to join in!!!

I think I have around 27 - 30 miles so far. 5-7 miles a day. I try to get 10,000 steps in in the morning and my husband has been walking with me after work.

I missed the 1st September due to atrocious weather conditions, but it is Sunday night so reporting my activity so far.
    2nd Sept: 3.07 kilometres, 42minutes
    3rd Sept: 2.58 kilometres, 38 minutes
4th Sept: 1.39 kilometres, 18 minutes also I parked my car in town and walked to all my errands, took about an hour.
    5th Sept: 2.31 kilometres, 33 minutes
    6th Sept: 2.39 kilometres, 34 minutes
I will do this each Sunday night for the month. Doing this is working, it is making me accountable for my activity.
  • My end of week total is 25.2 miles / 150 miles

Need to step up my game this week if I want to reach my goal. Decided I'll do the longer cycle commute next week and take it from 5 miles to 7.5 miles.. Or at least I'll try to

Hi everyone again . Here's to September! It's finally spring, so hopefully I'll be able to get out and about more often again. :)

I am making an effort to do stairs 5 days a week now, so I'll be tracking them as time, but not distance. And I must say, it has already made a difference. We had seats for the Symphony as high as you could go in our concert hall last Friday, and I had no trouble at all getting up there. :)

As for goals, I really want to do more than I did in August. Hopefully longer daylight hours and potentially warmer weather will allow me to do that.

    Totals:

Sep Cycling Outside: 0 km (0 min)
    Sep Cycling Inside: 0 min
Sep Walking: 5.6 km (69 min)
Sep Stairs: 50 flights (36 min)
    Sep Other:
Sep Time Total: 105 min = 1 hour 45 min
Sep Distance Total: 5.6 km = 3.4 miles

    Sep 3 - 1.5 km (18 min) + 25 flights of stairs (18 min)

Sep 4 - 3.5 km (45 min) ... a beautiful day, 18 degrees, sunshine, and a wonderful walk on the beach

Sep 5 - 16 km (50 min) ... outside! A bit breezy but otherwise not too bad + 3 km (35 min) walk on the beach

    Sep 6 - 1.5 km (18 min) walk to a waterfall

    Totals

Sep Cycling Outside: 16 km (50 min)
    Sep Cycling Inside: 0 min
Sep Walking: 15.1 km (185 min)
Sep Stairs: 75 flights (54 min)
    Sep Other:
Sep Time Total: 289 min = 4 hour 49 min
Sep Distance Total: 31.1 km = 19.3 miles

Thanks! You are doing awesome! I hope to start up swimming next week. I did that last winter and spring with my sister in law and a friend. She has a really really bad case of poison ivy so probably will have to wait a week. I don't swim like a pro I just keep my head above water and do laps. I have trouble with ear aches.

It was a beautiful day today. I was able to walk 7.04 miles today and 43.16 miles total. I am starting to feel it in my legs and hips so I am going to take a rest day tomorrow. I do weight lifting every other day and that is all I will do tomorrow.
