My weekday ride is a loop through the neighborhood where I live. So my weekday rides will always be about the same distance. I guess the small variations are where I hit the start and stop on my app. My weekend rides are usually my longer rides, for those I go to a series of multi-use paved trails down by the river.

I have been tweaking the position of my saddle, and now my hands are getting numb. Any suggestions how to prevent this?

    9/1 10.75

@tcaley4 Do you use gloves when you ride? Do you move your hands around when you ride? Is your seat level, tilted forward or tilted back?

There are a variety of things that can cause numbness... grabbing the bars too tight can be a main culprit as well.
Often times a seat that is slightly tilted forward can cause extra pressure on the hands and make them go numb.
The ulner nerve is usually the reason for numbness and oftentimes a pair of riding gloves can greatly help out with numbness.

Yes, I do wear gloves. In fact, the pair I am wearing now I received for my birthday about two weeks ago. So those are brand new. I try to keep my saddle fairly level. I do need to tilt it up just a tad, because I find myself slidding forward.

    9/1 - 25.1 miles
    9/2 - 25.1
    9/3 - 16
9/5 - 101.1 My fastest century to date, 5:23:24 ride time & 6:22:20 total with 1,447' elevation gain (Ride w/GPS but my computer registered only 893'), albeit void of any climbs but had a decent head wind for more than 20% of the ride at over 10mph and did a fair amount of work pulling the group home in the last 30 or so miles (paying for it this week with bad heat rashes lasting the last three days). Ride stat: TSS of 376, 196 NP, 0.768 IF, and 18.8mph average. Almost ready for my October "A" century ride with 4 times the climbing; I'm hoping to complete it in less than 6 hours ride time.

    Ride Time: 8:58:46
    Goal: 45:00:00

As much of my riding this month (to date) has been in the easier flats and with much slower companions, I realized that I needed some more time at higher intensities. Although I did a short 10 mile sprint session the day I got my TT/Tri bike, I hadn't done much since, so I ended up hopping on an expresso at the gym for some higher wattage short courses, and pushed it on my climb home tonight after the 13 inning loss to the brewers (to let off some steam). Hope my legs won't punish me too hard tomorrow as my running plan has me averaging about 8 miles/day for the rest of this week.

    @kcjchang - nice century time!

    9/1 - 20 miles
    9/2 - 44 miles
    9/4 - 51 miles
    9/5 - 6 miles
    9/6 - 26 miles
    9/7 - 17 miles
    9/8 - 45 miles
    9/10 - 16 miles

    Total: 225 miles
    Goal: 500 miles
    Remaining: 275 miles

    Review ...

    March Cycling: 409.33 km (254.34 miles) = 21 hours 55 min
    April Cycling: 384.15 km (238.7 miles) = 20 hours 35 min
May Cycling: 259.06 km (160.9 miles) + 45 min cycling inside
June Cycling Inside: 215 minutes on bicycle on trainer in basement = 3 hours 35 min
June Cycling Outside: 493.53 km (306.6 miles) in 1531 min cycling outside = 25 hours 31 min
July Cycling: 130 km in 405 min + 280 min cycling indoors
Aug Cycling: 129.25 km in 474 min + 225 min cycling indoors

Spring has sprung ... or so they tell us. But hopefully with the longer daylight hours and potentially warming temps I might be able to get out there and ride more!!

I'd like to be up and over 200 km cycling outside ... plus I'll probably end up doing a bit inside as well.

    Saturday 5 September -- 16 km (50 min) ... outside!

A bit breezy but otherwise not too bad.

Friday 11 September -- 35 minutes on the trainer!!

    Better than nothing.

    _____________
    Total:

Cycling Outside: 16 km (50 min)
    Cycling Inside: 35 min

Congrats on a good ride. I am working my way up the distance ladder toward doing a century as well. Still have a long way to go.

That might be the culprit. If you find yourself sliding forward you are more than likely putting more pressure on your hands to keep yourself in place. You might be presently surprised once you tilt it to level.

16 more miles today, some high wattage, some low.

@tcaley4 - have you considered getting a "quick fit" from a local bike shop? Otherwise there are some good you-tube videos to get you dialed into a decent position (with the help of a friend). See: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrZBjOloChg and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE3XyTXUIxU for some decent starting ones.

    9/1 - 20 miles
    9/2 - 44 miles
    9/4 - 51 miles
    9/5 - 6 miles
    9/6 - 26 miles
    9/7 - 17 miles
    9/8 - 45 miles
    9/10 - 16 miles
    9/11 - 16 miles
