sorry for the continued absence--i miss all of your postings and comments. so busy. hopefully will get back on track tomorrow and after. i managed to run a couple of miles today though, which felt so good.

10/1 4.75 -- I would like to do 6+ miles in the coming days, so, am resting tomorrow!
    10/2 rest day
10/3 6.51 -- first 10k, longest run (time), and farthest run (distance)
10/4 rest day--this was a horrible day, could not get any exercise done and felt miserable
10/5 no running, but good elliptical workout
10/6 5.53 -- excellent run. the weather was cool and crisp, my muscles cooperated and all went well
10/7 3.11 -- recovery run? that's what i thought of this one. felt good though!
    10/8 5.61 -- very good run.
    10/9 3.11 -- a little over 9 minutes mile pace!
    10/10 rest, the elliptical hour
    10/11 5.00

10/18 5.65 — I ran a 5K race in 25:49 (not a PR but very close to one, 25:19 three weeks ago). Pace was 8:16. But, and this is special, I did not feel satisfied and went for a 2.54 mile run!
10/19 rest from running, but a good elliptical workout
    10/20 4 miles--very comfortable pace--10:30 a mile.
    10/21 no run

@Somebody_Loved Good luck during your first 5k! Please share the details. It's going to be awesome for you. You'll be motivated to do more races. There's something about the vibe at a race that I like.

@skippygirlsmom That's how I am. I like to keep it to myself but afterwards it's on. I got bragging rights then.

@Stoshew71 That was the part that had me cracking up.

@ACSL3 I'm not fast either but I do my best. The more I run the faster I'm getting. It's ok for you to brag. You ran 7 miles!

10/23-3.1 miles and Strong Curves workout B
10/24-12.17 miles-I fell. I don't know how. I heard oooff and I was sliding in for a home run. :D I'm all bandaged up now but I just realized that I was a block from the hospital. I could have gotten cleaned up there instead of running home.

10/1: 8 miles am and 6.2 pm with the Thursday crew
    10/2: Rest day
10/3: 10 miles with Saturday crew
10/4: 13.1 - Princeton Half Marathon (new HM PR: 1:43:38)
    10/5: 5 miles recovery style
    10/6: O Holy Rest Day........
    10/7: 7 miles hills
10/8: 10 miles (am), 6.4 miles (pm) with the Thursday crew
    10/9: Rest day
    10/10: 20.5 miles
    10/11: 4 miles
    10/12: Rest day
    10/13: 8 miles, very hilly!
    10/14: 7 miles speedwork
10/15: 8 miles (am), 3.4 miles (pm) with the Thursday crew
10/16: 2 miles to shake off the drove-for-3.5-hours feeling
    10/17: 13.1 miles - Baltimore Half Marathon (1:44:24)
    10/18: Rest/Lazy Day
    10/19: 5 miles
10/20: XT: 15 miles indoor bike (aka: 1 episode of Blindspot)
10/21: 7.7 miles speedwork (2ish mile warm up, 3.5 miles speedwork, 2ish mile cooldown)
10/22: 5.2 miles (am), 4.6 miles solo and 6.4 miles with Thursday crew
    10/23: O Holy Rest Day!
    10/24: 6.2 miles

Meant to do 8, but I've had a tight hammie ever since Baltimore last week. Feels fine on flats and downhills, but gets cranky going uphill. Decided to cut some distance out of my run and baby it today (ice, elevation, etc.) and hopefully I'll be able to get my whole 16 in tomorrow. The hamstring isn't painful, just uncomfortable and stiff. Probably will be a few miles shy of my goal this month, but I'd rather lose a few miles now than have to skip my longest pre-Philly training run (22 miles!!) next weekend!

Long, slow run today ... and about time since my schedule's been a mess and I was falling behind where I needed to be for this month's challenge. As it is, may be a little tight!

@7lenny7 excellent time. good luck on your HM. And, on the support of this group and how motivating it is, I cannot say enough. I would not have been here without that. I was so lucky to know about this group from the very beginning of my running—it’s been absolutely essential. Thank you @Stoshew71
@patrikc333 beautiful runs you do. Oh, i was so busy last week and wasn’t able to keep up with news, congrats on your Marathon, I will go back and read up on how it went! But, I am sure you did awesome.
@suzu_2 it feels so good to meet one’s goal, doesn’t it? You’re doing great, congrats
@smithie092015 you’re doing great though and you have a plan! what race (how long?) are you doing on Sunday?
@Stoshew71 your ability to control pace is so good. i have been trying to do just that—it’s not natural, my body tends to want to run faster all the time and i have to deliberately slow it down to a pace that is sustainable for a few miles.
@skippygirlsmom i think she definitely should post it—great if with humility, but also okay without :) she’s doing great. But, she seems like such a great kid and you seem such a cool mom :)
@tdbernrd ha! my wife loved the :) it’s so funny! I just noticed your post about falling, hope you’re okay? But you seem to have had a great long run!
@ACSL3 i do feel self conscious talking about running—my in laws are in town and they probably roll their eyes overtime running is mentioned :)
@juliet3455 where is this running terrain? beautiful landscape!
@vandinem that’s an excellent distance! I can’t wait to be able to do longer runs like this
    @kstar_lee congrats on the accomplishment.

Have great races this weekend, all of you who are getting out there.

    10/1 - 8 miles
    10/2 - 5 miles
    10/3 - 5.1 miles
10/4 - rest day Allen's son is in the Nat'l Guard and was supposed to jump yesterday. We were headed there when they cancelled the jump :-1:
    10/5 - 10.1 miles
    10/6 - 5.1 recovery miles
    10/7 - rest day
10/8 - 6.6 miles of hilly hills  not big hills just rolling up and down and up and down
10/9 - 5 miles my first mile I thought was crappy because I thought my watch said 10:50 and it felt like 10:50. Turned out it was 10:05 which I didn't realize until I pushed harder and my next split was 9:47. Ended up with a 9:49 pace... so happy especially after dancing too much and too late at the Miranda Lambert concert last night!
10/10 - 5 miles - 9:55 pace don't know what's gotten into me. Ran with Skip who is home from Disney.
    10/11 - 5.1 miles
    10/12 - rest day
    10/13 - 11.1 miles (yes I want my .1)
10/14 - 5 miles - recovery run with Skip, cool morning about 44F at run time.
10/15 - 5 miles - another cool morning, I wanted to add a few miles but I got out late so had to stick to my usual run
10/16 - 3.5 miles I don't know if the stress of this week got to me, if Allen leaving yesterday got to me or my legs just rebelled this morning LOL From step one to failure on my 6 mile run today I felt like crap. Got to about 3 miles and said the hell with it and went home. Oh well 3.5 is better than 0!
10/17 - rest day XC meet - Skip did great 22:18 top 25 placed and she finished 23rd. She cut 2.5 mins her off time from this race last year.
10/18 - 4.3 miles with the trail running group we joined. Wow ran trails I would never try alone, when they call a trail "goat trail" they mean it, up up up a narrow rock trail. I was in the middle of the pack, Skip killed it staying at the tail end of the "fast" group.
10/19 - 5 miles 35F bbrrr degrees at run time today
10/20 - 1.2 miles it was supposed to be a rest day but Skip's coach wanted me to run a quick mile with him before their meet. He's got a 1,000+ day streak going. Crazy man!
    10/21 - 5.1 miles
    10/22 - 7.2 miles
    10/23 - rest day
10/24 - 13.1 miles - long run around the neighborhood, but beat my HM time by about 2 mins.

    115.5 of 120 miles

    exercise.png

I'll have to catch up on posts later, my internet is so slow and a tech can't come out to fix it until Thrs. It takes 2 minutes for a page to load, it's like being on dial up.

Skip has a meet this afternoon, qualifying for sectionals.

@snha Congratulations on your New PR Distance, Speed and Longest run. :)
That picture is from the River Bank Hills around Peace River, Alberta - Tangent Park for that particular picture. https://www.facebook.com/groups/174221049431765/photos/. It was a lot more photogenic 2 weeks ago when the leaves were Bright Orange and still on the Trees.
I posted this link back in the September Challenge ( September 29 ) of what we now call " The North West Woods" also know as "Sleepy Hollow" from The Ichabod Crane Fable. https://www.google.ca/maps/@56.268976,-117.3074971,611m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en.
We have an endless - or it seems endless - collection of Main Trails with lots of little off-shooting sub trails.

Yesterday's race went better than I had hoped! My best 10km time so far had been 1:19 and I only decided right before the run that I wanted to try and come in around the 1:15 mark.

There were a few more hills thrown in than I expected and I did have a few 30 second walking periods here and there up the biggest hill (considering we had to go up it twice!) At one stage I was walking up a bit of "mega-hill" when another runner coming down the other side yelled out "You can do it! Come on!" Awesome!! And just what I needed!

The people were amazing!! Just like you said they would be! We had our own acrobatic performance - this one section in the run where groups were dancing/cheering and doing flips for all the runners - even a few hi-5's here and there!

I will never wear a hat running again! I was thinking about throwing it into the bushes at one stage - the heat was incredible! When I saw my husband on the sideline half way it was perfect timing to dump it. I later found out it wasn't that hot it was just the hills fault for making my face bright red

Also, I wish there were more water stations.. There were only 2 set up along the run and I usually don't need to drink while running but the hills and picking up pace a little was a struggle - There were a few runners saying more water stations were needed at the end.

I had one girl who I would pass and then she would pass me so we were playing tag the whole 10k. We were at the 9k mark when she stopped. I stopped and walked for a little with her, told her we were on the last km and got her going again. I didn't even care if she came in before me - I was going to finish! I even heard my 3 year old yelling out "Come on Mummy" a few meters from the finish! Best feeling!!!!!!

The cheering was amazing coming up to the finish line! People everywhere clapping and yelling. I crossed the line at 1:06! Taking 13 minutes off my PB!

This morning my hips are sore but I did push myself moreso than usual so I expect it. My legs however - completely pain-free! Compression sleeves are the best thing I have bought in years!

Sadly, there aren't many races nearby until March next year.. But the plan is to keep going, slowly increase distance and see how much I can improve by the next one

    3/10.......3.0 km
    4/10.......3.0 km
    6/10.......2.0 km
    7/10.......3.5 km......left shin very tender
    10/10.....5.0 km......00:39
    11/10.....7.5 km
    14/10....10.0 km.....1:26
    15/10.....5.0 km......PB 0:37
    17/10....10.0 km.....1:19
19/10.....4.8 km......legs felt heavy and hard to move today
    20/10.....2.0 km......running with pram = hard work!
    21/10.....8.0 km
    24/10....10.0 km.....Run For Life 10k Race.....New PB 1:06

    10/8, 8 miles
    10/9, rest
10/10, local 5K here in Maine, finished in 25:31!!
    10/11, 6 mile hike
    10/12, 1 mile
10/13, Zumba and yoga for runners
    10/14, 7.6 miles
    10/15, 5.0 miles
    10/16, 3.5 miles
    10/17, 10 miles
    10/18, 3.6 miles
    10/19, 5.2 miles
10/20-21, rest (got some short walks in but that was it)
10/22, 2.5 hour Zumba challenge at work for breast cancer awareness - I know this has nothing to do with running but it was pretty awesome!
    10/23, another walk/rest
    10/24, 5.0 miles

Goal: 85 miles. Total 84.15 miles. Obviously I can't add since I added up my training runs and thought with tapering and all that's about where I would land. So changing goal to 100 miles!

10/24-12.17 miles-I fell. I don't know how. I heard oooff and I was sliding in for a home run. :D I'm all bandaged up now but I just realized that I was a block from the hospital. I could have gotten cleaned up there instead of running home.

    Gosh, hope you are okay!

—my in laws are in town and they probably roll their eyes overtime running is mentioned :)

My in-laws were here for 3 weeks - they just left on the 10th - and while I think they think I'm crazy, I happen to know that my running makes me a MUCH better DIL!!!

@kstar_lee Great new PR 2.16 miles non stop, farthest and fastest 12 min mile pace. :p
My Avg Pace is 10min/mile so great job.

@kareF Your First race and a new 10km PR of 1:06. :) I believe I predicted 1:11 based on your 2 previous 10K run times. You had hoped for a 1:15 and Destroyed it, even with the Hills. Glad to hear it was such a great experience and the people were so supportive. Now that you have a race behind you don't be afraid to comment on other New To Racing people who are asking about " What to Do/Not do.

" I will never wear a hat running again!" Never Say Never, it was a balmy 3C today and a hat/headband was needed.
" Also, I wish there were more water stations" 2 is common for 10km races. As part of your Positive Feedback to the organizers suggest 1 more Water Station in the final 2-3 km, and thank the volunteers again ( letter to the editor of the local newspaper? )
Glad to hear you were able to cheer on and support a fellow runner.
Keep throwing 10km runs into your weekly run plans and look for a Thanks Giving or Christmas Turkey Trot, new Years Resolution Run, Chilly Willy etc.

@kareF Wow, amazing PR! Congrats! What a great improvement and sounds like a good race!

@Stoshew71 Oof, looks like a rough one today, but I hope you don't let it get you down! Funny how quickly we get used to the cooler temps. How many more long runs before your race?

I have a couple of long runs before my Shakeout Half on November 14, then maybe one more LR before I start my taper for Dec 12th.

@karef I love that your daughter was yelling for you! So sweet. Congrats on the fantastic PR
@stoshew71 funny you mentioned the weather, I thought it felt much warmer today then the temps and humidity said too.

Thanks for the good luck to Skip, she didn't have her best time, 22:36 but she qualified for sectionals and learned that Mommy is usually right. She will not eat fried shrimp and french fries 2 hours before a race again. She was happy with her race, I was surprised she finished at about 1 mile she passed me holding her side and crying. I told her just keep breathing, she made up some time, but still didn't look too great at the end. Always proud of her!

@Stoshew71 sorry to hear you had a bit of an off run. it is warming up here in Oz and the humidity isn't easy to run in!
@ACSL3 i wanted to share my first race experience.. i was taking notes of all the great things and how awesome it all felt, wanted to tell you all about it, so glad i explained it well
@skippygirlsmom Skip has a great teacher! she is going to go so far with her times! i am in awe!
@HealthyFocused715 awesome for upping your goal miles! you will reach it easily!
@juliet3455 you did predict 1:11 .. and i thought you were crazy :dizzy: LOL and even though I wanted to finish around 1:15, your prediction wasn't far from my thoughts! The support from this group is absolutely amazing! thank you!! i am going to aim for at least one 10k run each week. I'd also like to slowly increase it a little here and there when i can fit longer runs in.
@annekka good on you for tackling that hill! i try and run one hill on my longer runs too.
@kstar_lee how good is it to be able to go for a run without the stroller! I have to work my runs around when my husband is home with the kids as i don't run very well with the pram. Glad you got a stroller-free run in there
@gabbo34 Thanks!!! it was definitely a great run and a great day! Even though my thighs are starting to feel it I am sitting here wondering if I should go for an easy 2km run to stretch.
@7lenny7 It was awesome!! Already thinking about my next race!

Thanks for being so awesome and encouraging everyone!!
