    10/1 - 8 miles
    10/2 - 5 miles
    10/3 - 5.1 miles
10/4 - rest day Allen's son is in the Nat'l Guard and was supposed to jump yesterday. We were headed there when they cancelled the jump :-1:
    10/5 - 10.1 miles
    10/6 - 5.1 recovery miles
    10/7 - rest day
10/8 - 6.6 miles of hilly hills  not big hills just rolling up and down and up and down
10/9 - 5 miles my first mile I thought was crappy because I thought my watch said 10:50 and it felt like 10:50. Turned out it was 10:05 which I didn't realize until I pushed harder and my next split was 9:47. Ended up with a 9:49 pace... so happy especially after dancing too much and too late at the Miranda Lambert concert last night!
10/10 - 5 miles - 9:55 pace don't know what's gotten into me. Ran with Skip who is home from Disney.
    10/11 - 5.1 miles
    10/12 - rest day
    10/13 - 11.1 miles (yes I want my .1)
10/14 - 5 miles - recovery run with Skip, cool morning about 44F at run time.
10/15 - 5 miles - another cool morning, I wanted to add a few miles but I got out late so had to stick to my usual run
10/16 - 3.5 miles I don't know if the stress of this week got to me, if Allen leaving yesterday got to me or my legs just rebelled this morning LOL From step one to failure on my 6 mile run today I felt like crap. Got to about 3 miles and said the hell with it and went home. Oh well 3.5 is better than 0!
10/17 - rest day XC meet - Skip did great 22:18 top 25 placed and she finished 23rd. She cut 2.5 mins her off time from this race last year.
10/18 - 4.3 miles with the trail running group we joined. Wow ran trails I would never try alone, when they call a trail "goat trail" they mean it, up up up a narrow rock trail. I was in the middle of the pack, Skip killed it staying at the tail end of the "fast" group.
10/19 - 5 miles 35F bbrrr degrees at run time today
10/20 - 1.2 miles it was supposed to be a rest day but Skip's coach wanted me to run a quick mile with him before their meet. He's got a 1,000+ day streak going. Crazy man!
    10/21 - 5.1 miles
    10/22 - 7.2 miles

    102.4 of 120 miles

Skip said thank you to everyone for the congrats and kind words. At last weeks meet she said instead of trying to "save some" for the end she is going to treat it like a sprint. I told her she can slow down at the end if she's losing it, but she can't make up the time she loses by "pacing" the first 2 miles. As far as Neal, he is the bomb! He is on the football team too and is just a special light in our lives.
@acsl3 I love the idea of you signing up for a race with your parents. It's cool that each of you has a specific race so you can cheer on each other when not running.
    @shanaber I hate travel!
@honunui love the picture of the porcupine fish!
@patrikc333 @msf74 glad you are feeling better
@kristinegift I get that feeling in my left leg from time to time. I figure it has to do with my sciatic nerve in my back. It just happens for like a step or two and that's it and it doesn't happen all the time. I just figured my leg forgot it's supposed to support me
@karllundy food hangover LOL that is a great name for it

Got a question - hopefully can get a quick answer from the horde of experts!

Woot.com has the Garmin Forerunner 610 Touchscreen GPS Watch with Heart Rate Monitor on sale for $199 (new). Not sure if this is a recent manufactured, or a clear-out of old (but unused) merch.

Checking around, this is a good price, but I need to know if folks' experience with it is good, and worth that cost? It looks like there were some issues with charging back in 2012 or so, but was fixed with a later update to the manufacture.

Currently I use my phone, running MapMyRun app, and don't have any significant problems with it. Is the Garmin gonna give me better/different data that's gonna help me improve, or is it more data than I can actually use?

I had planned an 8.5 mile run but first stopped by the high school. Both the boys & girls soccer team made the section semifinals. The games were a double header and both games against the same school. The plan was to catch the last half of the girls game and the first half of the boys game, then head home to run. The girls won 3-0 in a fairly lopsided game. The boys game, however, was very tight and very hotly contested (several yellow cards) and with a 1-1 tie at the half, I couldn't leave. I ended up watching the entire game (3-1 victory for the good guys!) and skipped the run. The fact that my knee felt slightly swollen in back made the decision a bit easier. I'll run tonight instead.

With 9 days before my half I find my self getting slightly paranoid about something going wrong leading into. My swollen knee (fine now), that sniffle last night (am I coming down with pneumonia??), my son almost running over my foot with the office chair, that slight pain in my calf that would normally go unnoticed. Pre-race jitters perhaps?

Still catching up on older posts....

@patrikc333, great job on the marathon! Certainly deserving a grand celebration!
    @snha, great 5K!!
@gabbo35, way to finish strong on your half!!
@ewrook, nicely done on your distance PR!
@5BeautifulDays, great PR on your 5K! One thing you can do to warm up, particularly on a 5K, is some easy running before the race. The key is to run enough to warm up, but not enough to take away your energy from the race. Maybe try a quarter mile of slow running the next time? When you do your training runs you'll get to know how long it takes for you to feel like your warmed up (if you haven't determined that already).
@Ohhim, I like the idea of running shorter distance at desired HM pace! I'm going to do that tonight on a 6 mile run. I saw in another post you mentioning deer. I see deer in my backyard nearly every day and have neighbors with gardens who would love to have me hunt back there, lol! One time in late fall a couple of years ago I counted 23 deer in the trees behind our house.
@pearshapedmum, are you able to do any walking with that hamstring? Brisk walking would be a good way to get out and get the heart rate up. I find that a 15:00 pace on a walk will get my heart rate up pretty good.

@9voice9 I don't have this particular Garmin but I do have a Garmin and love it. I love all the data I get from it.

@7lenny7 definitely race jitters, no matter what race I do I think I'm dying and can't run for a couple weeks before

@7lenny7 I know I should have warmed up before my 5K....but it was sooooo cold, lol! It does take me at least .25 a mile to really feel like my muscles are moving properly, even in nice weather. In the cold it took almost a half mile. But then I was *warm* and didn't want all those outer layers! I was a mess. I think I'll get the right tweaks to it all as I run more in the fall/winter weather, though. Oh--and I hope you can push through your pre-race jitters! You're going to do great! :)

10/1 8.25 treadmill run at just around 12:00
    10/2 3.75 treadmill run at 11:28
    10/3 rest

    10/4 3.0 @ 12:03 outside
10/5 unplanned busy busy "rest" day
10/6 5.25 @ 11:40 on the treadmill, plus strength training
    10/7 6.0 @ 12:05 on the park trail (and 2.5 walking to and from school/warm up/cool down--not counted)
    10/8 rest
10/9 5.25 @ 11:14 on the treadmill, plus strength training
    10/10 rest

10/11 4.5 @ 11:49 on the park trail, just a nice, enjoyable run on a beautiful Sunday morning
10/12 4.0 @ 12:00 on the treadmill, nice and easy
10/13 3.5 @ 10:48 on the treadmill, plus 20 minutes rowing machine instead of weights (changing things up!)
10/14 9.0 @ 12:32 twice around the lake on the park trail.
    10/15 Yoga day
    10/16 2.5 @ 12:03 around the neighborhood
    10/17 Rest

    10/18 3.1 @ 10:52 Race day at GMU
    10/19 5.0 @ 12:10 Trail run at the local park trail--31degrees--brrr!
    10/20 3.0 @ 10:38 (!) on the treadmill, 1 mile cool-down walk and strength training
    10/21 3.0 @ 10:35 (!!) on the treadmill (plus .5 walk)
10/22 4.75 @ 14:00 just a nice lope around the lake with TWRPE (The Worst Running Partner Ever). Today was supposed to be a long run, but my legs are so tight from strength training and two days of speediness that I thought it would be the better part of valor to just slow down and enjoy being out with the doggy. I have to say that he's actually not the worst partner ever anymore. Every time I take him out he seems to do a little better, both with avoiding the other dogs and with sticking with me. He never runs ahead of me anymore (although that may be because I'm faster, lol). But he also seems to understand that we don't stop while running. (If we walk, every tree is still fair game, though.)

10/22 -- week 7 day 2 today. It was horrible in comparison to my last run. I had to stop and walk twice for about thirty seconds. Really sucks because my goal is to not walk at all except for warm up and cool down. I'm not sure why I was off today. Maybe I started off too fast, maybe it was that the weather was quite a bit warmer than last time, who knows.

W7D3 on Saturday and I get to go without baby and stroller so hopefully I do better.

    MTD - 39.1

Great job to everyone else as always.

I have the 620 and hrm and paid ~500. I saw it on sale yesterday at Run On! In Dallas for 399. The 220 was 250$. So, the newer ones are being moved, I'd pass on a refurbished if it can be avoided. Bang for your buck, I think the 220 can't be beat.

My husband got a refurbished 110 and within a week the buttons fell out. That is a super price on the 610 though!

This article is from June but I just came across it. It's about a summer weeknight trail racing series in the Minneapolis area. I had wanted to do these this past summer but something always managed to get in the way. After reading this I've decided that next year I'm making a more concerted effort to attend! Perhaps pay for the entire series at once to get more commited.

10/11 12miles on the bike with the hubby. Been over a year since I have gotten on my road bike. Not counting these easy miles for my total. I'll do my long run in the morning. Time for some football.

10/19 5.98 (34) - far too many beer calories consumed this weekend. I felt it today.

Yes, I actually rested on 21-Oct - no intentional walking/running at all. Didn't even make my 15K step goal for the day, and feel pretty okay about that. Shouldn't have a problem hitting my goal this month <knock, knock> since I'm already 4 days ahead of pace....

    @Clarewho - Awesome!!

Today I was doing a treadmill run and got a horrible side stitch after about a mile and a half. I tried to run through it, focus on breathing and for some reason it didn't want to let up. I walked a bit after that and will get a run in tomorrow. The upside is that my hip and legs felt awesome today - foam rolling, stretching and relaxing have definitely helped!

10/1: 8 miles am and 6.2 pm with the Thursday crew
    10/2: Rest day
10/3: 10 miles with Saturday crew
10/4: 13.1 - Princeton Half Marathon (new HM PR: 1:43:38)
    10/5: 5 miles recovery style
    10/6: O Holy Rest Day........
    10/7: 7 miles hills
10/8: 10 miles (am), 6.4 miles (pm) with the Thursday crew
    10/9: Rest day
    10/10: 20.5 miles
    10/11: 4 miles
    10/12: Rest day
    10/13: 8 miles, very hilly!
    10/14: 7 miles speedwork
10/15: 8 miles (am), 3.4 miles (pm) with the Thursday crew
10/16: 2 miles to shake off the drove-for-3.5-hours feeling
    10/17: 13.1 miles - Baltimore Half Marathon (1:44:24)
    10/18: Rest/Lazy Day
    10/19: 5 miles
10/20: XT: 15 miles indoor bike (aka: 1 episode of Blindspot)
10/21: 7.7 miles speedwork (2ish mile warm up, 3.5 miles speedwork, 2ish mile cooldown)
10/22: 5.2 miles (am), 4.6 miles solo and 6.4 miles with Thursday crew

Oh boy, I cannot believe I got all my miles in today. Did my 5-ish solo before my group run and paced 7:50-range, then did easy paces (see: talking, laughing) for the group miles. My right hamstring is still a bit whiny after what I put it through in Baltimore, but besides going up stairs and holding the refridgerator door open with my foot, it doesn't seem to be much of a bother. By the end of both my runs, I barely noticed it. I was going to test it out on my own and then go to the group run or not depending on how it felt, so I was relieved that it got progressively BETTER during my run, rather than worse. Phew!

And as I hoped this morning, the group run did kick me in the pants a bit and get me out of my funk. Feeling more mentally prepared to take on the weekend's miles!

That's what those are? Good to know. I went snorkeling in Guam and saw some but wasn't sure what they were.

Got up early did 3 miles of hills this morning. Now my right IT band is irritated - will do some more foam rolling this afternoon after work

I went to the headband site that was mentioned here and bought two headbands. They can do custom headbands so I wanted to get something for my race in Dec (I looked at pictures and saw that people dress up in Christmas stuff). I wanted it to say Ho Ho Ho and couldn't decide on the coloring, that's why I bought too haha ;) I got one green one with glittery red lettering and one dark red with glittery green lettering. I figure my Mom might want one too, but even if she doesn't I'll pick the one that I like better and maybe put the other on my camelbak or something.

Can I expect this kind of support at my first race? Registering tomorrow...
H#ll yes. Go Girl. My last race they even had a big BIG PA system at the finish - EGO Boost - hearing them call out your Name and Home Town when you are still 200-300 meters out from the line.
@kareF You have received some great advice from so many, hard for any one person to put it all in a coherent sequence. Looking forward to your post race comments.
@Clarewho I have never been in a race that was so large they had "starting pen groups" . Just have fun.
The first 10K run - great job - Darn Now what is next? Improve time? Even Pace?
@skippygirlsmom " Congratulations to Skip " Extrapolate her 3 mile 20:37 PR out to 10km and she would be The First Place Finisher at most of the events I was in this year. Not First Junior, Not First Female - First all categories!!!!!! Yes we run at a slower pace for a 10km versus a 3 mile ( ~5km ) but she is RoadRunner versus Wiley Coyote Fast. She has at least 10 minutes on my PR. Neal in 9:38!!!! Smokin Time.

Tonight I had one of those fantastic runs, that feel great from start to finish.

My intent was to warm up for a mile then run 5 miles as my hoped for HM pace of 9:09 (which would give me a 2 hour finish). A slight pressure on the back of my knee that I haven't felt since July gave me some pause, but it actually started feeling better the more I ran.

After strapping on my new Brooks, I finished my w/u and kicked in to a higher gear to reach my HM pace, but instead of hitting 9:09, I ran the five miles at 8:53. I doubt I could keep that up for 13.1 miles, but it sure gives me more confidence going into next week!

After the 5 miles I finished with a cool down and ended up with 6.8 miles. As I approached my house my neighbor saw me coming and came out with a beer for me (I love my neighbors!).

An easy 6 is scheduled for tomorrow, followed by 10 on Saturday. I'm still trying to decide how I'll taper my last week before the half.

super super super tough this morning, so double satisfaction now

with the new lamp I can run even inside a cave, it is a mini sun so I could enjoy my park run this early morning instead of hoping to not trip over.

today was rabbit day, met a million of them

pace was horrible, but I don't care this week, just hope my leg comes back to be at 100%, I'm a bit fed up of this weird feeling and I just want to be back to run without any probs

can relax now, this week is almost gone and tomorrow I'm going to sleep and relax, run a 10k, then sleep, relax and sleep again, nothing planned on purpose

I cannot believe how time flies, a week ago I was in Amsterdam, now I'm in jail.... ehm this office, it is so so so unfair...
