10/1 4.75 -- I would like to do 6+ miles in the coming days, so, am resting tomorrow!
    10/2 rest day
10/3 6.51 -- first 10k, longest run (time), and farthest run (distance)
10/4 rest day--this was a horrible day, could not get any exercise done and felt miserable
10/5 no running, but good elliptical workout
10/6 5.53 -- excellent run. the weather was cool and crisp, my muscles cooperated and all went well
10/7 3.11 -- recovery run? that's what i thought of this one. felt good though!
    10/8 5.61 -- very good run.
    10/9 3.11 -- a little over 9 minutes mile pace!
    10/10 rest, the elliptical hour
    10/11 5.00
    10/12 rest, great elliptical session
10/13 6.52 — very nice run: farthest I went since i started running; fastest 10K (well, second and faster at 10:33 per mile.
    10/14 3.2
    10/15 3.37
10/16 no run today — good elliptical session though
10/17 2.25 — shake up run getting ready for my 5K race tomorrow
10/18 5.65 — I ran a 5K race in 25:49 (not a PR but very close to one, 25:19 three weeks ago). Pace was 8:16. But, and this is special, I did not feel satisfied and went for a 2.54 mile run!
10/19 rest from running, but a good elliptical workout
    10/20 4 miles--very comfortable pace--10:30 a mile.
    10/21 no run
    10/22 no run
10/23 2.14 -- very short run, but so glad I managed to get it in
    10/24 7.29 — farthest run 7.29 miles, fastest 10k 1:04, and longest run: 1 hour and 16 minutes.
    10/25 3.12
    10/27 4.50 -- upped monthly challenge to 80 miles
    10/28 3.11
10/29 no run today, but good 50 minute elliptical!

@shanaber and @skippygirlsmom Thanks re: miles this month! The last couple weeks have been tough to get through, but hitting that 220 will be worth it come Saturday! Plus I see that both of you are already past your goals, so great work this month! :)

10/28: 7.5 miles attempted tempo run
10/29: 10 miles (am) and 6.5 miles (pm) with the Thursday crew

Did 3.4 by myself and then 3.1 with my running group because I had a movie to catch at 7:30... The Exorcist! One of the only horror movies I actually like, and it was totally worth seeing it on the big screen! But then I had to call my mom and talk to her through my whole walk home because I was sort of terrified  The evening runs felt much fresher than my morning run, so I'm looking forward to my weekend miles... after a hard-earned rest day tomorrow!

213/220 (Garmin site tells me 212.99 but I'm rounding up, darn it!)

I was supposed to do a structured 1/4 mile repeat workout tonight, but my legs were shot after doing intervals for my bike workout earlier today, so I just decided to do a fartlek (w. roughly the same amount of fast running distance) so I could play my recovery timing by ear. I was a bit surprised by the speed I pulled off for some of my longer intervals (including a few 0.2 mile ones at a 4:40 pace), but was definitely happy to wrap up the run given the humidity (90% at 11PM). I'm thinking a rest day might be in order tomorrow as I've run for 5 days in a row and want to do an easy 6+ mile run Saturday and a long 3/1 run Sunday.

    @patrikc333 - I'll burn between 80 calories/mile (at 12:30 min/mile in cool weather), to 130 calories/mile (at 7 min/mile pace). I used to burn about 150/mile at that same 12:30/mile pace when I started running at 113kg, but am down to 72kg / 177cm.

    10/1 - 7 miles
    10/2 - 8.5 miles
10/3 - 4 miles (pace run at 1/2 marathon speed)
    10/4 - 9 miles
    10/5 - 8.5 miles
    10/6 - 8.5 miles
    10/7 - 8 miles
    10/8 - 8 miles (w. 0.25-0.5-0.75-1-0.75-0.5-0.25 pyramid @ 6:35 pace)
    10/9 - 9 miles
    10/10 - 4 miles
    10/11 - 8 miles
    10/12 - 7 miles
    10/14 - 9 miles (4 w. neighbor, 5 solo)
10/15 - 1 mile (pre lift warm up)
    10/16 - 5 miles (w. strides at end)
    10/18 - 14 miles (8.5 easy Z2, final 5.5 at HM pace)
    10/19 - 6 miles
    10/20 - 10 miles (3 w. neighbor, 7 w 3-2 mile fast repeats)
    10/21 - 6 miles
    10/22 - 3 miles
    10/25 - 13 miles
    10/26 - 5.5 miles
    10/27 - 4 miles
    10/28 - 4 miles (w. strides at end)
    10/29 - 7 miles (fartlek w. 15x0.1-0.2 mile sprints at 4:30-5 pace)

    Total: 177 miles
    Goal: 170 miles
    Done!

@kristinegift - A few Halloween's ago I went to see The Exorcist on the big screen, too. I ended up staying at my sister's place so I didn't have to go home alone! Ha, still freaks me out.

@Ohhim - Running in 90% humidity sounds miserable. Great job on pulling off the intervals and congrats on exceeding your target!

I was a little sore from going to the chiropractor yesterday so had a shorter run today. Overall I felt good, though, and had a decent treadmill run. Looking forward to resting tomorrow and then getting back on the trail on Saturday.

windy and heavy rain this morning - ok I like these conditions, but other 2 hours after 3 days of being constantly under the rain is a little bit too much!

was really had today, 80% upwind as well and the park was a mess, the leaves were hiding all the potholes in the trays and stepping on the unknown was not good at all for my back

but I've done it (pace 1 sec faster than last week, but considering the weather it is not comparable), and that's what matters. I meet only a poor rabbit.

Hope is not going to rain tonight as another hour walking the dogs won't make me very happy, I'd like to stay dry once in a while!

yesterday I've used my 1100 miles old shoes, I was a bit concerned but I didn't have any problems - life is really strange, I thought I was going to damage more my leg and my back, but they worked really well

    5pm please come quickly!

and i've have to say that I'm lucky to still be here. At a crossing, an idiot didn't stop with the red light and missed me for 1 meter. something/someone in my head told me to do a step back (with a green light) just before crossing - I can't believe it. unfortunately that idiot was too fast to try to chase, but I hope she gets what she deserves, because this is not acceptable at all.

    10/1 - 8 miles
    10/2 - 5 miles
    10/3 - 5.1 miles
10/4 - rest day Allen's son is in the Nat'l Guard and was supposed to jump yesterday. We were headed there when they cancelled the jump :-1:
    10/5 - 10.1 miles
    10/6 - 5.1 recovery miles
    10/7 - rest day
10/8 - 6.6 miles of hilly hills  not big hills just rolling up and down and up and down
10/9 - 5 miles my first mile I thought was crappy because I thought my watch said 10:50 and it felt like 10:50. Turned out it was 10:05 which I didn't realize until I pushed harder and my next split was 9:47. Ended up with a 9:49 pace... so happy especially after dancing too much and too late at the Miranda Lambert concert last night!
10/10 - 5 miles - 9:55 pace don't know what's gotten into me. Ran with Skip who is home from Disney.
    10/11 - 5.1 miles
    10/12 - rest day
    10/13 - 11.1 miles (yes I want my .1)
10/14 - 5 miles - recovery run with Skip, cool morning about 44F at run time.
10/15 - 5 miles - another cool morning, I wanted to add a few miles but I got out late so had to stick to my usual run
10/16 - 3.5 miles I don't know if the stress of this week got to me, if Allen leaving yesterday got to me or my legs just rebelled this morning LOL From step one to failure on my 6 mile run today I felt like crap. Got to about 3 miles and said the hell with it and went home. Oh well 3.5 is better than 0!
10/17 - rest day XC meet - Skip did great 22:18 top 25 placed and she finished 23rd. She cut 2.5 mins her off time from this race last year.
10/18 - 4.3 miles with the trail running group we joined. Wow ran trails I would never try alone, when they call a trail "goat trail" they mean it, up up up a narrow rock trail. I was in the middle of the pack, Skip killed it staying at the tail end of the "fast" group.
10/19 - 5 miles 35F bbrrr degrees at run time today
10/20 - 1.2 miles it was supposed to be a rest day but Skip's coach wanted me to run a quick mile with him before their meet. He's got a 1,000+ day streak going. Crazy man!
    10/21 - 5.1 miles
    10/22 - 7.2 miles
    10/23 - rest day
10/24 - 13.1 miles - long run around the neighborhood, but beat my HM time by about 2 mins.
10/25 - 5 miles of recovery run a bit of a drizzle while running with Skip, but it felt refreshing
10/26 - 28 - ouch my mouth hurts rest days
    10/29 - 5.4 miles
10/30 - 5.1 miles - great slow nice run with Skip this morning. It was chilly but clear, I starting to love having her run in the morning with me. She had lots of speed and hill work this week so she wanted to do a slow run and it was nice.

    131 of 120 miles

I'm really happy with miles this month (thanks @kristinegift) I probably would have had 15 more if it wasn't for my mouth hurting, but all is good. Skip and I are running in the Spooktacular 5K tomorrow, looking forward to seeing our friends @stoshew71, Jenn and Emily. Two weeks until my HM!

@patrikc333 - I hate that! People are just stupid sometimes!
@Stoshew71 @skippygirlsmom and Skip - Good luck in the Spooktacular! Sounds fun!
@dharwood68 - rest up and feel better soon!
@kristinegift - Wow! That total is huge!

Congrats to everyone who has already met their goal!!

10/1 - 3.1 miles on the 'mill; plus 5.8 miles / 20 minutes on stationary bike.
10/2 - Had to skip run/workout for a life insurance physical (bloodwork, etc.). Then, they couldn't get me to bleed, so I'm gonna have to do it again! Grrr!
10/3 - 11.5 miles with HM group; cool, beautiful weather!
    10/4 - waaaayy overslept!
10/5 - not off to a good start this month; kids up half the night with illness / asthma issues
    10/6 - 4.75 miles on a beautiful, cool morning.
10/7 - 4.85 miles of hills with HM group
    10/8 - 4.65 miles
10/9 - 0. Up half the night, again! Now feeling a bit under the weather. It's too early for this stuff, isn't it?
10/10 - 7.92 miles with HM group. Cool morning, flat loop...nice run!
10/11 - 3.15 mile "recovery" run. Slower pace with one of my 9 year olds...love getting to run with my kids! Sore hip though.
10/12 - 4.75 miles. Beautiful weather! Hip better, but not perfect. Fired up for 5k and HM this weekend!
10/13 - 0. Had my repeat life insurance physical, which went fine. Then spent the whole day waiting at home for Des Moines Water Works to turn water back on. Some sort of miscommunication between dispatch and the technician...UGH!!
10/14 - 5.16 relaxing, lovely miles with HM group as we "taper" for this weekend. Got pulled over on the way to meet them at 4:45 a.m. Just a warning...woo hoo!
10/15 - 4.25 miles on treadmill at Trek class. Took it a little slower and flatter than usual.
    10/16 - rest day before weekend race(s)
10/17 - 2.96 miles @ IMT 5k Road Race - someone shortened the course! Oops!
10/18 - 13.1 miles @ IMT Des Moines Half Marathon (1:48:41). New PR! Went out a little fast, but mostly had a great run on a beautiful day!
10/19 - extended stretching with HM group. Relaxing.
10/20 - 4 miles on indoor track with weights/strength work following.
10/21 - 4.75 miles around my 'hood. For October, it was hot...beautiful!
10/22 - 4.25 miles on treadmill at Trek class
    10/23 - unplanned rest day...just didn't feel like going.
10/24 - 5 miles around my neighborhood...felt good, nice pace
    10/25 - normal rest day
10/26 - 5.1 miles. Wish I didn't have to stop to get ready for work. Felt like I could have run forever.
10/27 - 4 miles on indoor track with weights/ab work following. Glad I was inside...REALLY windy here today.
10/28 - woke up too late to go to gym, it was raining and WINDY. So, I wimped out and didn't go. Plus, in my neighborhood, the wet leaves on the ground make things super slick right now.
10/29 - tough 5 miles on treadmill at Trek class. Instructor was extra challenging today.
10/30 - 3.35 miles on indoor track, followed by weights and abs. Gonna miss my goal by about 7 miles...too many unplanned rest days this month. :o On the plus side, I am getting back in the weight room, which I need to do.

Wednesday when i wanted to run it was 35°F and sleeting/raining. I love running when it's cold, and I love running when it's raining, but put the two together and I'll pass. Later in the evening I looked outside and it was SNOWING! I would have loved to have run at that point but I had already eaten supper.

I got in 4.4 miles last night of slow, easy running with Kody. Last night was 47°F and dry, which is same conditions predicted during my HM on Saturday so I dressed in what I thought I might need for the HM and found out that I still sweat enough that I do want my running hat, and that I'm warm enough that my thicker long sleeved shirt was too warm. I also think I'll get some cheap jersey gloves to wear for the first few miles until my hands warm up. I also dug out some old clothes from the donate box that I'll wear until the race starts. I expect about 9500 other runners at the starting line so I'll need to get there early! I'm so glad my wife will be able to drop me off a few blocks away so I don't have to deal with parking.

I was going run 3 miles tonight but I'm skipping that in favor of getting ready for the race and getting to bed early. I have not gotten the sleep I had hoped to this week.

I'll fall way short of my goal this month, but that's ok.

@Stoshew71, @7lenny7 and @9voice9 - great discussion on pace, cadence and BPM. I am going to do some research on the biomechanics - @Stoshew71, can you share some of the articles you have found?

Too many articles and videos I am going through that I am not keeping track of them specifically. I am just making notes. I will share the notes when I am done tho.

Skip and I are running in the Spooktacular 5K tomorrow, looking forward to seeing our friends @stoshew71, Jenn and Emily. Two weeks until my HM!

Can't wait to see you guys. Two weeks until *our* HM. :-)

@Stoshew71 @skippygirlsmom and Skip - Good luck in the Spooktacular! Sounds fun!

Thanks! But I am not running this one. Not doing 5K's just yet. Working more towards HM and full goals right now. My wife and daughter are doing this one and I am just there for support.

Hellow fellow Jerseyian. I grew up in Union County (Rahway) and moved later on to Monmouth and Ocean county (Eatontown and then Brick). I now have been living in northern Alabama for the last 5 years after they shut down Ft. Monmouth.

To answer your question: Half Marathon. 13.1 mile race.

@ShanazAsiya, here are some acronyms I can think of that you might see here:

HM - Half Marathon (13.1 miles)
    HR - heart rate
    MHR - max heart rate
    RHR - resting heart rate
    HRM - heart rate monitor
    ITB - Iliotibial band syndrome

@ShanazAsiya Highlight our name and hit control-C then hit control-V in the text box.

Just in case you don't know what that means...
At the bottom of your keyboard is a button labeled 'Ctrl' which is called the control button.
Holding down that button while you hit another button will do certain things.
Such as, control and c will copy whatever is highlighted into the clipboard.
Control V will paste whatever is in the clipboard.
