Hey I have another question so I was looking up groups to join and I put in the running challenge turns out there wasn't a join button so is the running challenge just a seasonal little group that you don't exactly join or the join button is hiding from me. The reason I said that was because on top of the October challenge there was an November challenge so I don't know can somebody tell me please. I'm TRULY SORRY ABOUT ALL THE QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am on the edge of the question meter exactly on less you say otherwise0

I don't think there's really anything to join. I just "star" the thread and get notifications. It's like a recovery group here, you are a member(runner) when you say you are.0 -
A nice cool evening 6C = 43F, 10 km run along the riverbank after work. Daylight Savings Time on Sunday will most of my future pre/post work runs into what we call Real Estate Patrols - since it will be to dark to safely run on the Bush Trails and headlamps don't really provide enough light in the bush to show all the terrain ripples that can give you an unexpected face plant. Still plan on hitting the Trees and Trails on the weekends as long as possible. looks like I should keep my Goal at the 140 mark.
10/04 – 7.1 Km – 7.1 Km
10/05 – 7.0 Km –14.1 Km
10/07 – 12.5 Km –26.6 Km

on my run today, a woman was walking her dog and had him/her on a long leash. the dog sprinted towards me and caught my shorts briefly before she yanked him/her back. i was so mad at the woman. she saw me at least 50 yards away running in that direction and did nothing to control her dog, shorten the leash or something. and then, she was just laughing as it it was a cute thing. now i understand that she might “know” that her dog is not vicious and would not do anything to harm a runner, but, for real, how am i supposed to know that? and, did you hear of “sorry, my fault”?
In this last 6 months I've been bitted by two dogs while out walking/ running!
I was walking about 6 mths ago when a German Shepherd got out of the gate, ran at me and bit my arm. I nearly had a heart attack! The dog let go, before lunging at me a second time, though I scared it when I screamed and it ran away. I ran to a nearby house and they let me in and sat with me. When I got home, I called the council and sent photos to them of the dog bite (a few punctures and bruising) to the council at their request, only to be told the bite wasn't 'severe' enough to act on. They would tell the owner to make sure the gate was closed in future, though that's all they would do.. Made me pretty mad, considering I usually took both my youngest children walking with me on the same route - that day they had been home with me all day and I was craving some time on my own so left them at home, luckily! I was told the outcome with the council would have been different if the dog had attacked one of my children, apparently. Doesn't give me much faith though in things.
The second time, I was running my 'new' usual route which has a lot of runners, walkers and dogs on leashes - a lot safer, I thought. A lady was running towards me with her dog, only a few meters from me, when her Blue Healer ran ahead, jumped up and bit my shoulder. The dog tore she sleeve of my shirt and I let out a bit of a scream. The dog owner pulled at the leash until she got the dog away from me, before appologising and running off. I've since run into the lady again though and her dog seemed fine and she was extremely sorry and said her dog had never done such a thing before... She seemed genuine. I just make a good habit now of not running too close to any dogs.. even on leashes. I look strange, running about 20 meters around anyone running or walking with a dog lol but I'm not taking any chances.
I was wearing completely different things on both occassions (initially I was wondering if the colours had set the German Shepherd off or something).. I just put it down to the dogs not being sure of what I was doing and being protective.. I don't really blame them - I do wish people would keep a closer eye on their pets though.0 -

@kareF - One of the places I regularly run (Pittsburgh) has an ordinance requiring the filing of a report (& quarantine for a dog) when they bite and it requires medical treatment. Just mentioning a small bite a few months back to an ER physician friend (so I could get antibiotics) got a dog quarantined for 10 days and a summons/$250 fine for the owner (as it was off leash). I guess they take them a bit more seriously in cities.
@snha - I'm still building my weekly mileage as they recommend ironmen training plans contain around 1.5x race distances in weekly mileage. I'm at that point for running (43 miles), but 1.2x for biking (135/week), and 0.8x for swimming (only 2 miles). I'll ramp it up as I get closer to my race next year, as I'd like to be a bit competitive for my age group. Unfortunately only about 2% of participants at my chosen race qualify for Kona, so I'll have a ways to go before I'd have a shot at Hawaii - or I could cherry pick a course with a softer field for a future year.

I had to get a tetanus injection booster with the first bite (automatically covered with the second bite at least!) I live in the city.. (Brisbane, Australia) but they don't quarantine here.. If the bite is deemed severe enough, they can fine the owner, put the dog on the dangerous animal register (1 more attack and the animal is put to sleep).. If the attack is brutal, the animal is put to sleep immediately. I think I was more upset though that the owner didn't even get a fine - just told to keep their dog in the yard at all times.0 -

Off to my a 10k. I know I'll pr because this is my first 10 k race.
I can not remember who suggested the VS bra. But thanks. I tried so many others and the VS is perfect. I don't hate my boobs anymore! Also, I was convinced I was wearing the right size. And I wasn't.0 -

Yup! :-)
Right!? 2 years and he seems so seasoned. I've been running consistantly since February, and am just try to keep looking forward, moving at my own pace. I may never be competitive, or place in my age group. But I'll keep trying
If we keep running long enough, eventually we'll be the only ones left and have a shot at those prizes in the female-over-80 category, lol!

@karef My dog does have a bite history, and that leash is always wrapped up so he can't get more than a foot away from me when we run past someone else (or they run towards us). All dogs, even generally non-aggressive ones, can perceive someone running towards them as a threat. I'm really sorry you were bitten.0

Tomorrow morning I will meet a running group for the first time and will do a 5K run with them. I assume/hope it will be fun.
10/1 4.75 -- I would like to do 6+ miles in the coming days, so, am resting tomorrow!
10/2 rest day
10/3 6.51 -- first 10k, longest run (time), and farthest run (distance)
10/4 rest day--this was a horrible day, could not get any exercise done and felt miserable
10/5 no running, but good elliptical workout
10/6 5.53 -- excellent run. the weather was cool and crisp, my muscles cooperated and all went well
10/7 3.11 -- recovery run? that's what i thought of this one. felt good though!
10/8 5.61 -- very good run.
10/9 3.11 -- a little over 9 minutes mile pace!
10/10 rest, the elliptical hour
10/11 5.00
10/12 rest, great elliptical session
10/13 6.52 — very nice run: farthest I went since i started running; fastest 10K (well, second and faster at 10:33 per mile.
10/14 3.2
10/15 3.37
10/16 no run today — good elliptical session though
10/17 2.25 — shake up run getting ready for my 5K race tomorrow
10/18 5.65 — I ran a 5K race in 25:49 (not a PR but very close to one, 25:19 three weeks ago). Pace was 8:16. But, and this is special, I did not feel satisfied and went for a 2.54 mile run!
10/19 rest from running, but a good elliptical workout
10/20 4 miles--very comfortable pace--10:30 a mile.
10/21 no run
10/22 no run
10/23 2.14 -- very short run, but so glad I managed to get it in

10/25 3.12
10/27 4.50 -- upped monthly challenge to 80 miles
10/28 3.11
10/29 no run today, but good 50 minute elliptical!
10/30 4.16 miles. met the increased goal!
10/31 5.14 miles and I finish the month a a good run for me!

10/1 - 8 miles
10/2 - 5 miles
10/3 - 5.1 miles
10/4 - rest day Allen's son is in the Nat'l Guard and was supposed to jump yesterday. We were headed there when they cancelled the jump
10/5 - 10.1 miles
10/6 - 5.1 recovery miles
10/7 - rest day
10/8 - 6.6 miles of hilly hills not big hills just rolling up and down and up and down
10/9 - 5 miles my first mile I thought was crappy because I thought my watch said 10:50 and it felt like 10:50. Turned out it was 10:05 which I didn't realize until I pushed harder and my next split was 9:47. Ended up with a 9:49 pace... so happy especially after dancing too much and too late at the Miranda Lambert concert last night!
10/10 - 5 miles - 9:55 pace don't know what's gotten into me. Ran with Skip who is home from Disney.
10/11 - 5.1 miles
10/12 - rest day
10/13 - 11.1 miles (yes I want my .1)
10/14 - 5 miles - recovery run with Skip, cool morning about 44F at run time.
10/15 - 5 miles - another cool morning, I wanted to add a few miles but I got out late so had to stick to my usual run
10/16 - 3.5 miles I don't know if the stress of this week got to me, if Allen leaving yesterday got to me or my legs just rebelled this morning LOL From step one to failure on my 6 mile run today I felt like crap. Got to about 3 miles and said the hell with it and went home. Oh well 3.5 is better than 0!
10/17 - rest day XC meet - Skip did great 22:18 top 25 placed and she finished 23rd. She cut 2.5 mins her off time from this race last year.
10/18 - 4.3 miles with the trail running group we joined. Wow ran trails I would never try alone, when they call a trail "goat trail" they mean it, up up up a narrow rock trail. I was in the middle of the pack, Skip killed it staying at the tail end of the "fast" group.
10/19 - 5 miles 35F bbrrr degrees at run time today
10/20 - 1.2 miles it was supposed to be a rest day but Skip's coach wanted me to run a quick mile with him before their meet. He's got a 1,000+ day streak going. Crazy man!
10/21 - 5.1 miles
10/22 - 7.2 miles
10/23 - rest day
10/24 - 13.1 miles - long run around the neighborhood, but beat my HM time by about 2 mins.
10/25 - 5 miles of recovery run a bit of a drizzle while running with Skip, but it felt refreshing
10/26 - 28 - ouch my mouth hurts rest days
10/29 - 5.4 miles
10/30 - 5.1 miles - great slow nice run with Skip this morning. It was chilly but clear, I starting to love having her run in the morning with me. She had lots of speed and hill work this week so she wanted to do a slow run and it was nice.
10/31 - 3.1 miles - Spooktacular 5K today with Skip - I finished 2nd in my AG with a 28:26 8:58 pace (just doubled checked and it's a PR for me) and she finished 4th in hers with a 23:16. Proud of her as usual, the 15 -19 AG gets more competitive. Had so much fun, got to visit with @stoshew71 and his family (great job Jenn and Emily!), saw lots of other friends too.

At the start of today's race I started to talk to the guy standing next to me, he has lost 90 lbs in the last year and it was his first 5K and FIRST TIME EVER RUNNING OUTSIDE! About 1.4 miles left he was walking and I said oh no we have about a mile to go run with me. I talked to him, told him no reason to talk to me at all (not sure he could). I gave me some advice on an incline and we finished together. He did so good, I hope he's running to run outside all the time now! Skip and had a blast and I got a medal, gift card to Fleet Feet and a pumpkin!0 -

Hill Day: 8 km run with the Local Running club. I am the turtle in the group so left the Java Café 20 mins ahead of everyone else - was passed by everyone just after peaking out and starting the Downhill part of the loop. They continued on to catch 2 more peaks and about 20km total for them. Enjoying every minute on the trails as very soon we will be winter bound/snow bound to the maintained trails around the town- better than the dreadmill - not as nice as a bush trail. This afternoon I am off to improve the marking on a few Bush Trails so will get about 10 km of Hiking/Brush clearing as a secondary workout.

@snha Enjoy the run with the group. Hope your group is as amazing as mine. You will find that most groups are made up of people with different paces so you should fit into one of the mini-groups within the group.
@skippygirlsmom Inspirational the way you sacrificed a bit of your Spooktacular 5K to encourage a new runner.
See everyone in November's Challenge. Happy Trails.0 -

10/22, 2.5 hour Zumba challenge at work for breast cancer awareness - I know this has nothing to do with running but it was pretty awesome!
10/23, another walk/rest
10/24, 5.0 miles
10/25, 8.0 miles
10/26-27, walks
10/28, 4.2 very slow miles

10/31, 13.1 miles. The half was absolutely gorgeous. It was in the Northern Kingdom of Vermont. A chilly (25 degrees) but beautiful run through the rolling hills of Vermont. At least that's what they are called - it was a hilly course with 3000' feet in elevation change. 60% dirt roads; we went over 3 covered bridges, saw lots of cows, horses, pigs and goats! I went slow, my slowest time ever on a half but enjoyed the day! And the soup and chocolate milk at the end!
Goal: 100 miles. Total 109.45 miles!!!!0 -
Congrats to all today's racers! And well done to everyone for a stellar month of running! It was awesome to read about all of your accomplishments, goals achieved and amazing experiences. @skippygirlsmom - that was awesome what you did for that first time 5K-er!! See you in November!0

I don't have the official numbers yet, but my rough calculation puts me at 1:06:35 for 6.34 miles, or a 10:30 pace, which is a little faster than I planned to be/thought I would be (I was aiming at 11:00/mile). I had fun! Didn't have any @skippygirlsmom stories but it was a good day!
Of course, since it's my first, it's automagically a PB!0 -

My wife and daughter raced in today's Spooktacular 5K. Skip and @skippygirlsmom also raced. It was nice seeing them. Shall I share the pic @skippygirlsmom with the group that we took? Lot's of neat costumes. I should have took more pics. The one good thing about running in the fall is that I don't have to get up at 4:30 to run on Saturday morning. I could actually do my run after my wife and daughter's race. Although I did have to take a 2 hour nap after running for 3 hours. lol

The reason I said that was because on top of the October challenge there was an November challenge so I don't know can somebody tell me please. I'm TRULY SORRY ABOUT ALL THE QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am on the edge of the question meter exactly on less you say otherwise
I post the group page for these challenges on page 1 of every Challenge.

There should be a join button. And questions are good. I don't mind answering them.

@elise4270 congrats on your first 10K. how did it go? i signed up for my first 10K on thanksgiving day
The course was crowded still at a mile in. Three tenths in, I was passing walkers. And the trail was narrow. But it eventually thined out. I'd been under an hour if I hadn't opted to go potty. (NSAID are no longer allowed in my system-GI bleeding now).
My husband was less than 40 seconds placing in his AG at 53:37!! I hate him, he doesn't train.
We ate at a pancake House and had German pancakes! Omg! If you like lemon meringue pie you gotta try it... Great day. Glad to be home..
Quick running question: my hip flexors are significantly sore after races (I run the whole race, but can't seem to get over the mental hurdle training to run non stop). Soreness just to the inside of the hip bone.. Is this a strength issue? Or just overuse?
Thanks all!0
