@_nikkiwolf_ beautiful picture, i take it you live near to farms?
@Stoshew Nice list! The "you get jealous when you drive past runners" is on to something. Although I'm missing a combination of the 2nd last and 6th last points: "you own more running shoes than regular shoes" :8
@siddles11: no need to apologies! Welcome fellow kilometre tracker, there's actually a few of us around
@gaelicstorm26 Oh no, that's really frustrating. Hope the knee gets better soon!
@kareF Now I'm curious - what did the magpies do to you?Actually, keeping your long run within 25-35% of your weekly miles prevents overuse injuries from developing.
From January to September, my short runs were 4-6 km, and my long runs with 10-15km easily more than 50% of the weekly milage, and I never had any problems. Maybe I was just lucky, but I always figured as long as I stuck to the other advice and increased the long run distance by no more than 10% (and never more than 1 km) per week and inserted a cutback week after three "normal" weeks, I'd be fine.

This one????We call these cutback (or down) weeks. That is the biggest lesson I learned recently. Plan about 1 week each month where you will run about 20% less mileage to absorb the training. If your body says you need one sooner or longer than a week, I highly advise you to listen to your body. This past spring I screwed up my 10 miler race and like 4 weeks of training because I refused to take a down week after increasing mileage for like 6 weeks. I paid for it. Something I won't do again.
Bingo!

@7lenny7 - Does Kody hunt with you?
@shanaber, Kody is indeed a hunting dog and that was the main reason we got him. I'm not exaggerating when I say hunting is the highlight of the year for him. He's been watching me get ready for this trip and going crazy wanting to get in my truck and GO! I may be biased but Kody is by far the best bird dog I've ever hunted over. He points, he flushes, he retrieves, and he'll do it all day long if you let him. All with incredible obedience.

@Somebody_Loved and @shanaber you will love the trader joe's pumpkin pancakes! Everyone who has tried them all say the same thing!
@7lenny7 I love the picture of Kody! What a beautiful dog. Wait, he flushes?? Haha are we talking about toilets or something else lol!0 -
I'm in for 50! (Been running since January, down from 18 min miles to 12!!) Also would love to have more running buddies, so any fellow runners feel free to add me, it keeps me pushing0

It's breeding season, so any cyclists, walkers and runners are a threat. It's quite disturbing lol.. All you can see most of the time is a big shadow on the road of something flying from tree to tree following you.
Here's a video that's a bit evil but gives you a good idea of what we're up against!
Makes me laugh with tears because we all fear being swooped and hit

Wow! I've never had to deal with magpies and it looks like I never want to! I like birds, but that's scary
I'm super happy with my run today. This week is a cut back week which is good because it happened to be scheduled during a week my back decided to hurt a bit. Got some medication from my provider yesterday so I felt better this morning. I did 5.25 miles in 62 minutes and its been a LONG time since I've done 5 miles in less than an hour, so that had me pretty stoked!!
I used to be able to run 6 miles in an hour in college so maybe I can get back to that at some point. And while I don't really care about my pace, its nice to see progress and it means I'm getting better/stronger/more efficient

Ran from my apartment to the running store for the group run because I left late, then two 3-ish mile loops with the group. Felt good and took it very conversational-easy pace; everyone was recapping recent races or talking about upcoming ones. Everyone in the group has been having a stellar season which is really exciting and gives me one more thing to be excited about come Thursdays: updates on everyone's races/training/tapers/etc!

I'm volunteering at the Pumpkin Pie 5k so that my registration for the Santa Stampede 5k will be free. I will find a 10k for late Jan/early Feb. AND I'm putting a team together to do the Colfax Marathon (Half for us) in mid-May. I have a sprint Tri at the beginning of August. I feel like these are reasonable and hopefully spread out enough to take care of any weaknesses I may find along the way. I'm so excited!!

Just looking at some races happening next year and these are some I am thinking about doing. Not sure if I will do all of them though there are more than I thought there would be! The marathon on Aug-07 offers a few races at various distances.. I'm not sure if I would be game enough to sign up for a HM, though if I do, that will probably be the one I chose to do. My friend was talking about doing it, so i'll build on distance a bit first and see how I feel in a month or two

Speaking of enabling...would I be crazy if I ran either a HM or full every month in 2016?
I'm fairly certain I'll do a full in May and was looking around for HMs and making a list of those that look appealing to me. I look at my list and I see a race for five of the first 6 months and the idea of a half or full each month suddenly sounded intriguing. The down side is that would be about $800 in race fees and more shirts than I can possibly wear. I also wonder if that's just too much wear & tear.0 -
6km 33:05
Usually die after 3km so surprised at that!
Back to the pool tomorrow then will try to run three times a week.0 -
That is awesome! I swam as a child and my daughter swam through HS and a bit in college. When she was on her club team I swam Masters for a while and have thought about getting back into it... Running has sucked me in though to the point of not having much time for anything else.0 -

4/11 -- 5k (treadmill)

Hi everyone, not posted recently as I've not been running I'm back in work after a shoulder op and haven't had time or motivation. I took today off just to run! ! It 's been two week since I last went so I thought I'd be slower. .... no way... its the fastest and furthest ever! !!cannot believe how much I've missed it! I think I ran further because I knew I'd used my annual leave and didn't want to waste it . You are all doing so well I keep track of what you are all up to... Inspirational have a great day wherever you are ☺0

I love HMs as much as the next person, but I find that too many on the schedule interrupts my marathon training. You could do a spring full and fall full and put HMs on the other months, but then that's one week every month of race prep or travel or recovery if you race it hard. I think it's doable but you'll have to plan ahead to make it work with your marathon training. I usually stick to one or two HMs per season (did 2 this fall and that was overly busy for my taste, but they were also only 2 weeks apart) as tune ups and confidence boosters for my full.0 -
Nov 1 - rest
Nov 2 - 3.2
Nov 3 - 4.3
Nov 4 - strength training
Nov 5 - rest
Nov 6 - 5.0 Had to loop in front of house to hit 5 exactly. + strength training
@7lenny7 - That seems like a lot of running, but I defer to the more experienced runners on here.
@MamaMollyT - beautiful picture!
@karef -magpies! I watched that video - omg. I'd need a suit of armour if those things were around where I run.

I agree with her. You are always preparing for a race or reverse tapering from one. You never get to the point where you are actually training and working on improving. If you use the HM's as training runs as opposed to racing them, then maybe you can do them a little more often. But i wouldn't do too many fulls in a year. 3 full marathons in a year would be considered a full schedule. I am doing only 1 a year myself until I BQ.
