@7lenny7 ...thank you!! A wealth of information and solid advice. I will wait to register just to be sure I think it's something I can do, based on all the factors you suggested. I'm hesitant about the snow and ice that I'll need to deal with this winter. I've torn the meniscus in both knees previously, so I'm wary of doing it again.
I looked at my AG 50-54 and noticed that if I want to place above the median, I have to aim for at least 2:19:00 or better. To do that, I will need to trim 4:30 per mile from what I do now. The pace I have now would put me at 3:30:21, which is 24 minutes later than the last female in my group did this year. But it looks do-able. I can do do-able!0 -
Smashed a 115 goal last month, so I'm in for 120 this month. Who knows what the weather will bring? Had to dreadmill it today....

Rest Day today. Funny the 1st has to fall on a Sunday. Will start November's Challenge tomorrow.
Pictures from yesterday's Spooktacular 5K. I didn't run it, but my wife and daughter did. As did @skippygirlsmom and Skip.
Here is a picture of all of us.
Just the ladies:

My daughter Emily(dressed as Catness from The Hunger Games)

Start off with a 5 mile jog. Ran a hard half marathon yesterday, so today was just a shake out jog. Praise God.0

I am in but just need to figure out my goal. Half training starts soon!!!0

Helped my brother install a new furnace in his place today so I didn't catch my normal Sunday Running Group.
4.6 km run @ 2015hrs using a headlamp. Pitch black. Daylight Savings + Family Duties = Running in the Dark.
Just learned that I suffer from Mild Vertigo when I try to run in the dark with a headlamp.
Not a good feeling and it caused me to cut my run short.
Sticking with my 140 km Monthly goal since I managed to exceed it for the last 2 months.
Bumping my Yearly goal up to 600km.
11/01 – 4.6 Km – 4.6km – 135.4 Km – – YTD – 4.6 + 379.16 = 383.76Km

Once again I'm back. I'm shooting for 100 again.0

In for 120km this month.
1/11: 16km Total: 16km of 120km
Spooky early run on Sunday the day after Halloween. There was mist everywhere which refused to lift and it looked like the set of "An American Werewolf in London".
A freaked myself out a little by chanting "stay off the moor, stay off the mooooooor" in my mind and then seeing a monstrous shaggy beast running towards me. Turns out it was only a Border Collie out with its owner for a walk. Doh!0 -
I am in for 50 miles - its my first time so not sure if I'm being too optimistic! haha0
-
@snha - your kids are adorable!
@Stoshew71 - great pics!
@Virkati - @Stoshew71 gave some great advice (doesn't he always?) about running your first HM. Just aim to finish. That's what I decided to do for my first HM last month. Based on my training I had a feeling I would finish around 2:30 and hoped for sooner, but I had it in my mind "just finish". Ended up 4 minutes under that. Next one is Feb for me and I will work toward some goal. I used the Gallagher method - he has tons of them but this one was called "just finish".
Nov 1 - rest
Nov 2 - 3.2
Nov 3 -
After feeling sick for 3 days was finally able to run today. Took it slow and easy - HR was higher than it usually is, especially as slow as I was going. I won't be able to do my normal 80+ miles of biking on the weekend so will be running more this week, and thought I should spread the miles out over several days instead of increasing my mileage a lot over a week. Felt so good to get back out there even though it was very hot and humid. There have been 2 bear sightings in the neighborhood - one neighbor captured it on video. This is right around the corner from me and I run right by there.
Not sure if link will work but pasted it in below. He said he was walking out to get his mail around midnight.
Usually the Florida black bears are out at dusk. But this was midnight and he apparently scared the bear away. The other one was 6:30am on the tennis courts. I run 4:30-5:45am. I read all about what to do if confronted by one. I think I should maybe take immodium before running, in case I run into this one.

Doesn't seem like the link is working. Worked when I tried in preview mode, but not afterwards.0 -
My race on Sunday went really well! Final time for the 10K was 57:24, which is a PR of over two minutes. Yay! Great way to end fall racing season. My hips and quads were so sore afterwards, but it was worth it.
I'm in for 80 again for November. This is a gap month for me, as half marathon training doesn't start until December. I want to keep my mileage strong, but I particularly want to focus on getting comfortable with the TWTSS schedule that I'll be using for training, and try to focus a bit more on core strength on the off days.

@snha - Love the Halloween pic!
@Stoshew71 - great race day pics! Plus, it is fun attending a race you aren't running sometimes.
@kareF - love the Asics Cumulus! I alternate those with Brooks Ghost and/or Saucony Ride. I can't find a Nike that works for me...too narrow in the toes, I think.
11/1 - rest day / Halloween Hangover
11/2 - 5.25 miles, 55° at 5:30 a.m. in Iowa! Nuts, but I love it!

180 BMP for those of us who need a reference or something to listen to. It has also helped me understand the discussion held a few days ago about the difference between cadence, pace, and stride length. Until I heard this I just didn't get it. I do now!
Love this!!!!!
OMG, I think she is going to be my next "running artist"!!!! (she might take my mind off the fact that I feel like "Everything Hurts and I'm dying")
Thank you so much for sharing

I'm a total newbie to running. I tried to start in July but my right knee wasn't strong enough so I had to build that up over the past few months and I was finally able to start up last week. I'm horrendously slow but I find running to be so mentally amazing for me. Right now I'm working on increasing my distance but I definitely need every other day off to recover as I launch into this. I have noticed that after only two weeks running has become so much "easier", in that I don't feel like quitting after 30 seconds
My November goal will be 20 miles. I'm going for abdominal surgery on 11/24 so I'll be out of the running game until the first week in December.
Sorry my goal seems so pathetic. I hope I'm not too much of a newb for the group.

Welcome! You are never pathetic - you're doing a lot more than you were doing 6 months ago. All of us started from nothing, and the really great thing is your mindset - keep a smart pace, and keep listening to your body.
BTW - getting in better shape, even for a few weeks, is likely to yield benefits for your recovery time after surgery. The hardest part is gonna be NOT being able to run after you've gotten addicted.

I'm so happy for you...that's a great time!! Can't seem to get out of the wet on Sunday mornings around here, though!
I'm intrigued by your thoughts on training for your half. I'm also training for the Disney Princess half in February. I don't know if I should do a beginner's or an intermediate plan? I currently run 20-25 miles per week, with a long run of 7-9 miles. But I'm a full 10 minutes slower than you are at the 10K pace. I hadn't even thought of making November lighter in anticipation. Of course, maybe if I took a few more rest days, I could go longer on my long runs.0 -
I`m in for 75miles.0

I'm in.
I'm doing C25K and doing a Turkey Trot.
Today I did not feel like running. But I talked my self into it "common, it's only intervals"
And then I got started:
Week 5 Day 3
20 minutes with no walking. Wha?!?!
But I did it.
Ran the whole way to "Awake" by Godsmack.
Since it is C25K, I will only be running 3 days a week. But wanted to join anyway0 -

Actually, @gaelicstorm26, we specialize in newbs! Since, after all, we all were at one time. Welcome to the group!
@smithie092015 congrats your race and great picture!
